A while ago, exchanging the locker for the house, I went to Home Depot to make duplicate keys for my kids. I had the locker with me to simplify the work. Finally, the workers there used about 10 blank-keys to make the only 2 that worked. They told me sorry that they cannot make other keys for my locker successfully and don't want to waste additional blank-keys. I was upset believing that if they can't, nobody else can also. Recently, I really needed additional keys and looked for somebody on Yelp. I have chosen "Modern Lock & Security" because of very positive overall grade and "5 stars" feedback. Darrin is SO professional!!! He has not waste even one blank key! I ordered 10 keys just in case. And all of them work, moving smooth such as originals. I know that it is supposed to be like this, but having negative experience before, I expected that to make duplicate-keys for my locker is not easy task. He spent only about 15 minutes! Fast. This place is great! My girlfriend and I have been putting off making copies of her mail key for a few weeks and we had some free time on a Saturday afternoon to go look for someone other than one of the "big guys" like Home Depot to make the copy since they already messed up once. We travelled to a few places but realized that many locksmiths are not open on Saturdays and there were even a few places that were advertised to be open when they weren't. We gave Modern Lock and Security a shot since we were by the area and it was nearing 4:45PM. I believe we were helped by the owner's son who was very very helpful and made the copies in no time flat. Locksmith with a physical store front that is open all day on Saturday. I had 2 house keys made and 2 mail keys. They wouldn't accept the yelp deal because they said my house keys aren't regular house keys...? Anyway it was $3 per key. They are great! I called in today AFTER HOURS to see if they can make me some keys. The "dad" answered and said he can meet me in 30 minutes at the shop. I appreciated his helpful attitude but was more grateful with his professionalism. TIP: If you have the original (or back-up/replacement) screws for locks, make sure you have them handy. I contacted Darrin after reading all the yelp reviews in the morning to see if he can come over to re-key a bunch of locks in our house on the same day in the evening and he was very accommodating! He arrived promptly at our door at the time specified in his mobile office and got to work on all our locks quickly. The best part was that I had one particular lock that had a key stuck in it which the termite guys were supposed to remove after completing the fumigation but for some reason they left it there probably because it got jammed in. I had even bought a new closet door handle thinking that I need to replace that jammed lock but Darrin said that he could fix that lock and re-key it as well. He spent about 15-20 mins, patiently working on that lock and he tried many tools to get that key out but it just wouldn't give. He finally machined a sawed off key just for that lock and was able to pull the stuck key out. Now that's perseverance! Once the locks were all re-keyed he made sure that I checked every one of them to satisfaction. His rates were quite reasonable as well. Make sure you mention the yelp discount. I got Darrin's name from the recommendation of a neighbor, so I added him to the list of locksmiths I called for a quote. Darrin's quote was the lowest, but even if his quote were slightly higher than the others, I still would have selected him, simply based on his demeanor over the phone. He's well spoken, polite and accommodating. I called him to my home to rekey 6 locks and install 2 deadbolts. One of the deadbolts had a digital keypad, which he took the time to explain to me how to operate and provided his own insights and advice. When we purchased our home, the previous owner never gave us the keys to some panels in the hottub that came with the house. While he was there, he was able to pick the [corroded] locks, lubricate them and make some keys for us. Overall, Darrin did a great job. These guys are honest, fast and great. The key cylinder for our front door lock broke. We called around to several locksmiths and got the same answer. We needed to replace the lock with a new expensive lock that would take several hours to install and cost hundreds of dollars. We called modern lock and security. Darrin was very professional, personable, efficient and all of my locks work perfectly (he re-keyed the entire house onsite). He charged exactly what he quoted and even got here a few minutes early. He also helped me with picking a lock that had no key (amazingly fast!) and removing some padlocks that had rusted closed from a lack of use. He also gave me some good tips on how to keep the locks lubed up (and how not to do it), installing and removing them for painting (soon), etc. and was a really enjoyable guy to talk with. I would recommend him to anyone - he's the real deal. Yelp is definitely the place to find a locksmith - the chances that you know one personally are slim and you want a person that you can trust to do this kind of work for you.
