The positive of this place is they can generally get me in quickly which is rare here in NM. And the actual doctor and nurses who do the injections are nice. But that's about it. All the other staff could give a sh*t. At the best they are indifferent. At the worst they are incompetent. The doctor that does my injections specifically asked me to have my PA Mallory talk to her about a possible change. When I mentioned that to Mallory it was clear she had no interest in taking that simple step for me. And then I was checking out after my last injection and Mallory was standing there and didn't acknowledge me in any way. They just don't care at all. read more

This office was totally unprofessional, unkind and irresponsible in their interactions with me. They don't answer the phone, ever. I called to tell them I would be late, to no avail; I called at least 10 times because my SS notice said they wouldn't see me if I was late. Well they did see me, but they were hostile. The doctor told me, "you don't want to make me mad, it could go against your claim if I think you are rude." At one point he even had some big ape like man follow me around the office threateningly, trying to get a reaction from me. I told the doctor, Steven Fishburn that I was irritated by the lack of professionalism at his office, and he threatened me and then had me escorted out of the office by the big ape man at the end of my exam. I am certain, given my extensive lived experience that Dr. Fishburn and his staff egregiously discriminated against me because I expressed irritation and unhappiness about the clinic's professionalism. read more

I have been seen and treated in both oh the Modern Pain and Spine Clinics. I was referred to them by my PCP at Presbyterian Montgomery. I was originally seen by a Pain and Spine Specialist at Presbyterian with whom I was very happy. When I tried to make my third appointment with her I was informed that she was no longer on staff, so my PCP referred me to Modern Pain and Spine as one of their Doctors had stopped by her office just two weeks earlier and informed her that they had doubled their staff and opened a second office location. I phoned in and made an appointment with Dr Melissa Merhege, MD. When I made the appointment for the following Tuesday, the scheduler mentioned that Dr Merhege would like to see the films and treatment on file from Presbyterian as it would eliminate her duplicating tests and any unnecessary expenses for me. I told the scheduler I would contact my Referring Doctor and go by her office to sign the release forms that day so she would have them in time before my first visit. She thanked me on Beale of De Merhege. When I arrived at Modern Pain & Spine for my initial appointment the offices were very clean and organized. The auxiliary staff were all very efficient and friendly. I was escorted into an exam room by Dr Merhege's assistant where she took my vital signs and verified my personal information and medications that had arrived in my file. She thanked me and stated that Dr. Merhege would be in momentarily to minutes later Dr Merhege entered and introduced herself. She then informed me that she had red my files from Presbyterian and examined the films they included. She then asked me to explain in my words what was going on and where my pain was located and the level of pain in each area. (I explained that the pain originated from a total left knee replacement and breaking of all long bones in my left leg 12 years earlier. I had placed my Seeing Eye Dog in his carrier located in the cargo area of the SUV and I closed the back Hatch door. I Then went to step up on the sidewalk when my foot caught on the curb and I went projecting forward into the landscaping across the sidewalk. I put both hands out in front of me to help brace my fall and I landed in the landscaping on both palms and both knees atop plants, cacti and 3 inch deep granite. In excruciating pain. I was driven immediately to the emergency room at the hospital just over two miles away. After many X-rays, exams and questions from nurses, doctors and other personnel, the initial diagnosis was presented. I had broken my knee, broken every long bones in my left leg and multiple cuts and bruises. They called my orthopedic surgeon and made an office visit appointment for me on the following Monday. They cleaned out the granite debris, plant twigs and leaves and blossoms and cleaned up my leg inside and out. They taped and gauzed it and then wrapped it with stretchable binding. They injected me with antibiotics, pain medication and started an IV in my left wrist. They called admitting and requests a room upstairs for me. About an hour later I was moved up to my room. The next day the Surgeon came by my room to look at all of the films and explain what needed to be done and plan a schedule) Dr Merhege discysses My file from Prebyterian and agreed with the approach my Pain and Spine Doctor had discussed with me. Although the pain originates from the knee it had been agitating my hip and lower five Vertebrae over time and by try to overcompensate for the knee pain. She suggested that we concentrate on the lower spine first as my lowest five Vertebrae were collapsed and pinching all of the nerves. She said she would like to propose to my insurance company that she wanted to inject the lower spine region first to release the pinched nerves. Once that was relieved she wanted to inject the left hip and ease that pain to get us to the final culprit. That is the course of treatment she has been following. Since the injections have relieved the major pain, the insurance company approved her to repeat them on a rotating basis every three months until I have my reconstructive surgery in New York City. Billing department is INEPT. I paid my copay, which they confirmed by phone and I have credit card proof, yet they continue to bill me. I have called them 4 times to provide the credit card proof that it has been paid and they won't return my calls. Front desk staff is also INCOMPETENT and doesn't get back to you either. Although the doctors are good, everyone else seems to be a grade school dropout and neither professional nor competent. read more

Bizarre visit. During check-in, a member of the staff found out who I was scheduled to see and expressed remorse for me, to the extent that they stood up, offered me a hug, and felt the need to re-affirm that I was a human being with rights who might need to advocate for myself during the appointment. They confirmed that other patients have complained about this provider and shown concern for her clinical judgement. This was such an ominous way to begin the appointment. The medical assistant did not take my vitals, but rather lectured me on the opioid epidemic and told me I *might* abuse opioids if I were to request and be prescribed them. The unsolicited supposition that I am an addict before I had even been examined was strange. The first thing I told the provider about was the large rash on my trunk that began, as did nausea and vomiting, after I trialled a pain medication for the 2nd time. The oddness continued as she suggested not only that I continue taking this medication that was potentially causing an allergic reaction, but that I increase my dosage from as needed to daily. Why would a healthcare professional encourage a patient to take an opioid medication more often, risking dependence, tolerance, and withdrawal? And a medication that makes them sick, no less?? She did not examine my rash or ask about other symptoms of an allergic reaction. I had to request that she photograph and document it. I was told I could speak with the owner of the clinic about my concerns, and staff had me wait to see him, but rather than address my concerns, he sent his staff back with the message that I should go home. I left this visit with worse pain than when I arrived, feeling more disempowered and ashamed of my sick body than I have in a long time. The culture of this clinic, where staff feels bad for the patients, accuses them of addiction without taking a history or examination, and gives unsound medical advice, is really isolating and unprofessional. read more

I would give this establishment less than 1 if I could and I haven't even been in yet! I've left 4 messages that went unanswered. The website email would not go through many days in a row. The chat feature doesn't work either. Reading all the negative reviews I'm glad I didn't waste my time going here. This is one of the most horrible places you could go Dr Sharifi and Dr. Maloney absolutely the worst doctors I have ever seen in my life. They don't listen to you. They don't listen to your needs. I have a spinal fusion from T2 to T 10. I'm missing three vertebrae in my back and over 18 inches of titanium Dr. Sharifi recommended turmeric it took everything I had in self-control not to reach out and touch that doctor. You'll never get them to answer their phone. Their switchboard is off from the time they open,so if you have an important question to ask,you may as well forget about calling to ask. Then you get to their office,and every employee there from the time you walk in are rude. You can't even get a greeting out of them. Then once you get in for your visit after waiting in the lobby,your rushed through your visit with the Dr.who barely explains plans or procedures. Doesn't like to be asked questions, because they just wanna get you out. After a procedure was performed,asked Dr. If a prescription could be refilled, asi only had 2 pills left,Dr. replied to call back in a week. This is a prescription that can't just be stopped taking because of side affects. Procedure was done with no instructions to follow when I got home,no paperwork given for office visit,,or showing what type of medication was used and/or injected for information purposes. Upon leaving,never was told to call office if you got home and any type of problem to call office. Once home never received a follow up courtesy call to see if everything was ok. I have never been to a Medical Office where people got treated like this. It's too bad that so many of us have to suffer with pain like this,and have to settle for health care like this. read more

My husband Ken has had a series of injections to his spine by Dr Melissa Merhege there at Modern Pain & Spine. First of all she listens to all of his complaints and does thorough examination of his back related to his complaints. She offered a variety of options. My husband had already had physical therapy with acupuncture before seeing her which helped him through his crisis but he still could not walk very far without pain. He decided to have spinal injections as recommended. After the first ones he was better but still could not sleep or walk far without taking meds.Had second round yesterday and slept all night without any medication. He feels so good and we are so grateful to Dr Merhege for being so kind and so thorough. We highly recommend her! Office personnel are very busy but always friendly read more

Too bad there aren't negative stars! I'd give these guys a -5. If you have years and years of your time to waste waiting for hours on end in the Modern Pain and Spine waiting room, then this is your place, and chance to waste years of your life in this inefficient clinic. Worst clinic in ABQ! Do yourself a favor and do your due diligence shopping for a spine pain interventionist clinic before spending your time waiting and waiting. Waiting for them to get their collective stuff together! There are at least 13 spine pain interventionist clinics in ABQ. RN's are unprofessional! Desk clerks are snooty and unprofessional, PA's are last in their class effective and snooty, or overworked and quit! Dr's are substandard with huge ego issues, worst in the state of New Mexico. Merhege has a heavy hand for an anesthesiologist, and will definitely provide more pain than your body can stand. Manole is a little ghost figure that tends to maybe 10% of the total patients in his clinic. This place loses PA's and DR's at an alarming pace. The patients are the ones that suffer. The staff at this clinic wish they weren't there, and you have to be an idiot not to notice. Bad vibes at this overcrowded clinic. You'll see! read more

They don't keep appointments I had a 4:20 appointment and had to call them at 4:40 to see if they were ever going to call me for my telemed and the receptionist lied to me and said they would call me back today and they never did my meds have been out for days and I'm in extreme pain they really don't have concern for there patients and it shows. read more

Dr Hanson was great but is crowded, it is small and many of the areas are nothing but curtains. One staff member in particular was extremely unprofessional. Not worth it to go through 20 people to find one doctor for temporary treatment. They did not listen to my needs, they did not acknowledge my issues, they did not follow the Ada regulations in accommodating my disability. I would never go to this place until they get 1) professional staff 2) a better equipped facility that doesn't feel like your grandmother's living room 3) a phone system which actually works and, 4) a scheduling system that actually operates the way it's supposed to. Modern Pain & Spine did a great job with my wife's neck, middle and lower back pain and problems. Dr. Manole was our main Dr. He has a really good bed-side manner and his technical knowledge is superior. My wife has had 3 back surgeries in the past and has complicated bone, spinal column and nerve issues. He navigated those carefully, thoughtfully and thoroughly. We would recommend Dr. Manole and his team to anyone with back, spine and/or pain issues. We are very thankful for them. read more

I have had pain for about a year and a half after surgery. PT, dry needling, over the counter medications with no relief. My surgeon recommended I consult with this facility. I was nervous and depressed thinking that I was out of options. I went and saw PA Taylor. What a great experience. I was given options. I had been to New Mexico Orthopedics and Lovelace Hospital's orthopedic dept. I saw two different doctors at New Mexico Orthopedics and I saw one doctor and a Physician's Asst. at Lovelace. They all diagnosed the fact that I have osteoarthritis of the knee. There was also swelling in my calf muscle and I had been a runner for 35 years. The doctor I saw at Modern Pain and Spine looked at my swollen shin Muscle and immediately said it was from severe shin splints and was probably caused by microscopic fractures in the shin bone or tibia and told me to get a 10s unit, which is a small battery operated stimulator that has electrodes which attach to your leg and ever since I started using it my pain is greatly reduced. I don't know why I saw three doctors and a physician's assistant and none of them diagnosed this in a year and a half. I've tried to tell people that it was a separate problem and no one listened to me until this doctor at Modern Pain And Spine. read more
