As an animal rescue, we have had no shortage of dogs come to our doorstep in need of a "therapist!" They have experienced violence, hunger , neglect  and fear. They needed a new psychological approach to life , more than "sit & rollover" training.    Our first contact with Paul at Modern Primitive K9  was for a dog that actually was on vet's exam table to be euthanized due to nasty aggression habits. For 3 months, a shelter tried to work with this 20 pound spitfire with no success. The vet saw hope when he gave a little tail wag. She suggested finding a rescue that would provide training. The first trainer refused to see him when his behavior was described over the  phone. The second one visited and promptly said, "I can't help a dog this damaged but I know someone who can." Thus, began his road to recovery with Paul at Modern Primitive K9. He used a"Training  Without Conflict " approach. Paul has this incredible ease and calmness around difficult dogs , even as this dog was attacking  his anti- bite suit on that first visit. He explained to me each session how a dog brain thinks and perceives and how we would replace each bad behavior with an acceptable one. It is a scientific approach. I have had human  behavior modification and abnormal psychology  courses and the concepts are right on target, only doggie style. With Paul's expertise and  faithfully doing our practice homework, this boy is adopted into his fur-ever home .   Our second dog was a  9 month, Duracell battery powered pitbull!! High energy , uncontrolled, brute strength that pulled me off my feet and gave me a head injury on tile floor and a hand tendon surgery. She also had some aggression issues but we needed a plan to exercise her without being in a hospital daily. She spent a few weeks with Paul for intense training and we followed with weekly visits.   I haven't been injured since he fitted her with a new collar and gave her new manners. Priceless!!!!     I've been in rescue many years and used various trainers for different dog issues to facilitate  adoptions  but Paul is the " best of the best!" Paul helped me with my young Male Golden Retriever who at the time was very stubborn and challenging for me to work with at home. Even though Chase was a sweet dog, he had a mind of his own and would not listen. What I liked about Paul's training was that he would first take Chase and work with him the first 1/2 of the class and then the last 1/2 of the class he would have me take Chase and he would then train both of us together. Chase loved his time with Paul and picked up on his training very quickly and was happy to do what ever he was asked. I also learned how to handle him and now 2 years later we still use all the stuff we learned from Paul and Chase is well mannered, off leash trained and obedient to my commands. I just finished an 8 lesson course with Paul. Our youngest Australian shepherd Dolly had some bad habits that needed fixing. We brought our energetic puppy Cutty to Paul after a not so successful public basic training class. Within weeks our first 9 week program our little guy was fully trained with all the basics and on command off leash. Paul is the ultimate Dog Whisperer! We set up appts with our Golden Retriever puppy and Paul showed us how to train our puppy. He was so calm with our puppy who is extremely sensitive.
