We are refugees from four other local vets where we have seen everything from off the wall diagnosis, to blatant bill pumping with unnecessary and irrelavent tests, to almost killing our dog. . VCA Osterville is professional and business like all the way. Dr. Danielle Smith is excellent. Her bedside manner with animals is great and her animal IQ glows as she gives an organized and analytical diagnostic on our samoyed. I had a wonderful vet there before Dr Venezia sold out . The new CORPORATION is pitiful I've lost track of my complaints with this business . My dog a couple of years ago had to be put to sleep the way they handled it was totally UNACCEPTABLE . I wanted to consult with a vet first but one wasn't available . I was an ongoing customer for years along with my family . Then I got a new pup I got to experience the vet who was at the bottom of their totem pole . He was faking doing his acting of being a good vet but I got charged Broadway prices . That was it . I'm sure they won't lose any sleep over me or my pets . read more

I brought my dog here to discuss possible neurological damage- chiari malformation. The vet took her in the back room to "clean her ears" and when he returned he said he gave her rabies AND distemper without my consent. I would never do 2 in one day and wanted a titer done instead. They say they don't do titers. I will NEVER go here again. read more

Multiple concerns but will just share a couple that caused me to leave Dr. Smith's practice. We got two puppies from 2 different litters. When scheduling first visit I was told I HAD to wait a week before they could be seen Which delayed needed medical treatment. I got them both at 10 weeks so the front desk made me wait until they were 11 weeks old (both born the same week from 2 different liters). Asked very nicely to bring them in sooner and shared it was recommended by the breeder to have them seen right away and was told it was not a good idea; There "was availability but important to let the puppies settle in". First visit for Ruby on Tuesday, stool sample left with Dr. Smith. Next day Rocky had his appointment and stool sample provided but Dr. Smith after agreeing to test the stool DISCARDED it without my permission. I told her I wanted both puppies treated individually and tested since they were from 2 different puppies from 2 different liters. She reluctantly agreed to test it saying it wasn't necessary because she had a stool sample from the other puppy. When I called to get the results I was informed it was discarded per Dr. Smith's order. She was very condescending over the phone and said she was just trying to save me money. So stupid of her and malpractice! A few bucks on a stool sample to "save" is nothing on a new $3,500 dog And then being out of work since they can't go to doggy daycare! And it is not her decision what services should and shouldn't be provided on other people's pets! Thank God I changed vets! The new vet did a stool test on both of them and Rocky had worms. Dr. Smith discarded a stool sample that would have indicated medical treatment but the puppy went untreated for weeks because she refused to test it. Clinically incompetent and disrespectful. I left a message for her at the desk and sent an electronic note expecting a simple apology, no apology. Never would have posted this if she had the professional courtesy to give me a call with a simple apology. read more

Although I am very happy with the vet who cares for my dog (Dr Danielle Smith), the front desk people should all be replaced. They are the rudest front desk people I have ever dealt with both on the phone and in person. Have been that way for years and anyone I talk to who brings their pets there says the same thing. VCA needs to deal with the issue. Maybe suggest to them they should treat customers the same way they would like to be treated at the front desk of a health facility service business. read more

Wonderful practice! Brought our puppy in to have a cyst looked at. Was pretty sure it was related to a recent vaccination back at home, but wanted to be certain. Dr. Danielle was friendly, attentive, and confirmed that my hunch was right. And to my great surprise, she DID NOT CHARGE ME!!! What a nice thing to do. Veterinary guesswork. I took our beautiful Yorkie in for heart visits three times in a year. He was staggering and could not control his movements. Was told it was a sore back. In April he was brought in for coughing and was told it was a collapsed trachea. Were any tests or x rays done? No. Veterinary guesswork. The last time I took him for the cough in was 1 month before he died of congestive heart failure and a 6 CM mass in his chest. Again I was told it was a collapsed trachea and that he was fine. Any tests or x rays? No. Every diagnosis (guess) was wrong. At any time during any of those visits an x ray would have shown no collapsed trachea and would have shown the mass and heart problem. Trusting this vet cost Joey his life. Never again. read more

Not impressed with this vet clinic. Some months ago my dog had a nose infection. They did not even clean out the nose and immediately prescribed 2 week cycle of antibotics, which can be hard on a dog's stomach. I decided to just try instead some homeopathy and a mixture of lavendar oil, coconut oil and local honey mixture swabbed gently inside the nostril worked like magic. In just one day big improvement. My dog had no fever and was eating well. Needless to say looking for a more mindful vet. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that the only reason I gave this place 2 stars was because of the very kind and accommodating front desk staff at this clinic. With my dog being in sudden respiratory distress, we called this clinic last minute to try and get her an emergency appointment. The front desk said to bring her in and made sure that the vet staff was available to see her. When arriving, there was a woman at the door waiting for her arrival, so this review has nothing to do with the staff and only the vet himself. As stated, my dog was in severe respiratory distress. After taking her back to be seen and waiting around 30 minutes, the vet tech came out and said our dog had heat stroke and they had taken measures to get her temperature down. Going back into the room to see my dog, she was still visibly unable to breathe correctly. The vet told us she would be fine, that she just had to calm down. We waited in the waiting room after this for my dog to "calm down" and when it didn't happen after another 30 minutes, we had the vet take another look. The doctor tried to give her a steroid shot and they put her on oxygen for 15 minutes. Even though she did not seem any better, he assured us that she would be fine and her throat was just sore from the heat stroke. We listened to him and took her home. After another 2 hours of waiting for her to calm down, we could not stand listening to her suffer and gasp for air, so we brought her to another clinic. Upon 2 minutes of walking into the other clinic, they ran my dog back and sedated her because of how severe respiratory distress she was in. She had a collapsing trachea and it was too late, so she had to be put down right then and there. It did not take a medical degree to listen to my dog struggle to breathe to know that something else was wrong other than a 1 degree raise in temperature. This doctor truly had no clue what to do with our dog and as a result of dismissing our obvious concern, it was too late to do anything to save her. This may be a good clinic for standard shots and check ups but I would not recommend you take your pets to this vet for more serious problems. read more
