Modern is the best. The first time I went when I moved to Michigan in 2021 it reminded me exactly of going to Vans skatepark in California 2 decades ago. Been hitting it at least once a week since. My mom and I took my nephew here since my brother and SIL were in town for an anniversary e Open from noon to 8PM on Saturday. $16 for two hours of skating and $25 for all day skating. They do lock-in skating events usually during holidays mostly. There are tables for the folks that aren't skating and they have Wi-Fi and a parent room that's quieter. Two seat high tables along the fence for the minor kids and a bunch of random couches by the main entrance. The parent room provides a bit of shelter from the constant noise of wheels rolling over metal plates at the top and bottom of a ramp. The interior is a big open warehouse. Fenced in for the skaters. Not fancy, but lots of different ramps for skateboarding, rollerblading or for razor scooters. My nephew wanted to try out every ramp to see which one was to his liking. Do bring a book, noise canceling headset and maybe a phone charger too. If you need snacks, Kroger is just across Stephenson and Penn Station subs just a half a mile away. They do have some snacks in the 3 vending machine. Probably a bit more fun coming with friends. My nephew felt a bit comfy after a half hour of getting the lay of the land. It can feel a bit chilly in the warehouse. My nephew said there's some fun ramps and runs, he was getting toasty running around some. Not me. He walks some and studies them ahead of skating to see what's on the other side to make sure there aren't any stairs on the other side of a ramp. My nephew likes the two half circle ramp with the flat landing in between. He also enjoyed the bowl, which has a slope to enter it. read more

I live out of state so I only visit Modern a few times a year but it's an amazing park. Lennon is always extremely helpful and kind. The bowl is sick and the park has gotten some awesome upgrades in the past few years. Hands down best skate shop/park in the metro. read more

Everyone here is so nice and helpful, from the workers to the patrons. I've been here a handful of times now. We attended group skate lessons on the weekend morning for my daughter twice. The first weekend, she was the only scooter to show so it was like a private lesson. The second lesson had a small handful of scooters, but significantly smaller than the skateboard group. The workers are so patient with the kids when they teach them how to skate and are great at calming their fears or anxieties. There are high tables with stools along the fence line so you can watch everyone skate. The skating area is huge! There are various half pipes, ramps, and bars throughout the place, so anyone from a novice to a pro skill level can have a blast. They have rooms that you can host birthday parties in, too! It's always a fun time when we come here! Lots of the ramps and pipes are made of wood that splinters over time with use, so wear jeans or you'll end up with butt-splinters like my kid! $1 ice cream sandwiches available for purchase at the front desk are a refreshing treat after skating your heart out. They also have vending machines with snacks and beverages, and water fountains near the restrooms. There is a men's, women's, and a separate neutral stall restroom. There is a shop located inside where you can buy apparel and skate equipment, and they also offer rentals! read more

Having been to all the in and outdoor skate-parks I think this is the best in Detroit. Went to a couple others the same few days and they weren't as well maintained (sweeping!). Lot of parks in the States are lazy with cleaing, it gets dusty, the employees dont want to do 'dirty' work (cleaning). The dirty and debris becomes dangerous. Modern has good flow, lots of ramps. Always extra enjoyable when the lame/annoying scooters aren't around! read more

ZAC was knowledgeable and adjusted the trucks on my quad skates and helped me pick out a helmet and pads for my elbows and knees. He did a lot of explaining which I appreciated. When I returned on another day for a lesson with Zac, he was again, very helpful and knowledgeable and down-to-earth. A+ for customer service. I can't rate much else about the place as indoor skate parks are sort of new to me. read more

My kids this place. I usually bring my two sons (11 & 10) and a couple of their friends for a session. It is a little pricey at $15.99 for 3 hours but it gets a lot of energy out when the weather is too bad outside. If they offered a discount for multiple children we could come more often. They offer free Wi-Fi but I have never gotten it to work with my Apple iPad or phone. They allow you to bring in your own snacks and beverages which does save quite a bit of cash. I have even left and brought a pizza back for my crew. The temperature inside the building closely resembles that of outside. In the winter it is freezing inside, in the summer it is HOT. The skaters don't seem to mind much but for parents perched up on spectator bar stools you will want to dress appropriately: coat, scarves, and gloves in winter months. The staff is always super nice, going above and beyond to assist you. My son landed a jump wrong and the nice man in the pro shop fixed his scooter free of charge. (This has happened multiple times). We will continue to visit Modern Skate, even though it is about 45 minutes from our home in Goodrich. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I had such a good sales experience here that I felt compelled to write something. I was looking for my first snow board and I came here not knowing what to expect. I don't know very much and I needed some help. I asked the sales associate if he had any recommendations for a beginner board. He stopped what we was doing and spent some time talking to me and asking what I needed and what I was looking for. He chose a few options and then told me why they would be good for me. He told me specific features, and he explained the lingo and benefits in a super easy to digest way. He didn't make me feel dumb about asking obvious questions and he told me all of the sizing requirements I should look for if I went somewhere else and bought a board. He wasn't pushy or anything, he didn't try to shove an expensive board down my throat like the people at REI. He seemed to genuinely care and want to make sure I got the best board for me. TLDR: I will be going here for all of my snowboarding needs. The staff is great the prices are decent and there is a level of expertise here that you don't find at the big box stores. They know what they are doing and they want to help you find whats best for you. read more

He helped my daughter find the foot to put foward, some tips on snowboarding, and just helped to find what was comfortable.
