I called and was told they would get a reminder to come get the trash the hold reason for them getting up and going to work this morning TO PICK UP TRASH!!! The folks picking up the trash are awesome - prompt and very cautious to make sure nothing is dropped or left behind. A 'boss' in their Napoleon Office is not Customer Service oriented. They would have gotten 5 Stars, but sadly they do not offer recycling services for our area. read more

I don't like writing these things but today tops it. Called to have 3 recliners picked up along with my trash. Took 3 trips to get them 1/4 mile away (one way) to the street. It's not easy - I'm, 69 years old. After working in the fields all day, I take the tractor down there and the frickin' things are still there. Imagine the fun the kids will have with them tonight. Called 3 times - once to schedule and twice with questions. Call the company and was pretty huffy. I have had major problems with this company on a prior account (a second residence) which they promised to refund a quarter of service that I paid for, but did not receive service for. I have e-mails of this conversation which I shared with the BBB. They have gone back on their word and refused to reply to a BBB complaint. I cancelled that account. I also called their Brooklyn office on May 24th and cancelled my primary residence and also e-mailed their Brooklyn office on June 2nd to remind them that I had cancelled this account and needed to have my tote picked up and billing amended. I got a billing reminder on June 8th for the full quarter. I called the company's 800 service (Prairieland Disposal LLC) on June 11th and was told that my primary residency account was never closed and my service was still active. Meaning that my two requests to the Brooklyn office were not followed though on for some reason. I asked them to cancel again! I am beyond frustrated with this business. we have had Modern Waste Systems as a provider for years. Stating with the pandemic, their service began to falter. late (or no) pickups multiple times due to truck breakdown, weather, or you name it. We have been tolerant and never complained. they also stopped offering curb side recycling and instead, just stuff our recyclables in the general trash (reduced services). For our loyalty and understanding, we get a bill increasing our rate by over 47% ($46.80 to $69) for no increase in service. When I called for an explanation, I was told that "we sent out a notice of the increase and we are still cheaper than our competitors". My neighbor and I saw no letter, must have gotten lost in the mail. Their representative's attitude did nothing for their image, IMO. This is nothing short of PRICE FIXING and maybe someone should explain how they can jack up the prices without any reasonable explanation other than "we can". read more

Our service used to be awesome, but the change in owner has given us a company that is charging for service that they didn't give. Our trash can has been extremely full twice now. We regularly have a low amount of trash, so a trash can that can't even close didn't receive 2or 3 pickups that were paid for. They also don't answer phone calls. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. Was transferred to this company when my original company went out of business. Modern Waste (Michiana/LRS)has several customers in my subdivision, however each and every time their truck drives past my residence and keeps on going. To make matters worse, ANOTHER truck drives through the sub (17 homes) later in the day 3-4pm time frame and drives past my residence with NO pickup. I then call their customer service line and get the same excuse, short of crews, truck problems. This has happened 4 times in the past 6 months. If anyone is reading this review, I'm going to help Modern Waste and recommend you find a different residential trash provider, because if they don't have enough crews or working trucks, they CERTAINLY do not want additional business. I've called every number I can find affiliated with Modern Waste/Michiana/LRS and no one wants to call me back or answer the tough questions on why this continues to happen. October 4, 2023 UPDATE. Since leaving Modern Waste(Michiana/LRS)on September 15, I spoke with Heather and she stated I would be refunded my 4th quarter charges($81.74- since they auto drafted in the beginning of Sept for Oct/Nov/Dec) within 48 hours of canceling service.That was a flat out lie, they have made NO attempt at refunding my credit card as of Oct 4, 2023. I have disputed the charge with my cc and they are investigating and also issued me a credit. I have spoken with Visa and they have sent numerous requests to Modern Waste/Michiana/LRS (bank) with no correspondence recieved back. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I first called February 1st due to my garbage can disappearing. My garbage can was there at 7am when my daughter went to work but when I got up at 10am it was gone. I was told they would bring me a new garbage can. Two days later Friday I had still not received my garbage can so I called and talked to Summer. She was very rude when talking to me stating they would not offer a refund for the days I will be without a garbage can as they will not deliver a new one until Tuesday, stated they were allowed a week to get me a new one. I was also told it was not their fault my can was gone and to stop accusing them of such action. I would not recommend if they are going to treat you with such indignity. read more

Our trash is missed more than once a month and had to get an extra bin just so we have somewhere to put the trash because they don't consistently pick up the trash, and when it's missed they can't give a timeframe or day that it will be picked up and it may not get picked up at all until the next regular pick up day! read more

The recycling drop off in Napoleon is HORRIBLE! It is always muddy and filthy, a complete disaster. My elderly mother always tries to recycle but I am scared to death that she will slip in the mud that is ALWAYS surrounding the bins. Would it be that difficult to dump some gravel around the bins? I have been a customer for many many years. Never had any problems til about a year ago when they just stopped putting my container back in its rightful place & just left it nearly in the road. When I came home, I had to drive past my place about a mile to turn around so I could get in my driveway WITHOUT running over the container. It HAS WHEELS! Why is it SO HARD for that YOUNG person to wheel it 6 more feet to its spot? They are the only company that serves in our area, so they do not care at all. I called the company to ask about the extra charges and the lady who helped me on the phone was angry at the start like she does not want to help at all and asked me what is your question? She was very rude and did not want to help per her tone and also during my question she was cutting me off and said I would have to put you on hold. Who does that? That was very rude and disrespectful. If she does not want to help customers, why does she work in this field?
