They accept donations, and volunteers to walk, help assist, taking care of the dogs. I believe for a small fee, one can adopt a dog here. This is a blessing, having this pet adoption center locally in the community!

Cake pan gifts are a 9x13 disposable cake pan from dollar tree, a box of cake mix, can of frosting, birthday card, balloons, (I added a birthday button), birthday candles and a can of sprite. You can google the recipe to make a cake with sprite instead of eggs and oil which is perfect for food banks. I will add a photo of my finished product for guidance. The gal at the front desk was very nice and instructed me to drive around to the side to the large open door. I walked in and someone asked how they could help me. She grabbed a cart and came out to m car and got my three bags that had the 12 cake pan gifts in them. She was so happy and excited to receive them and it made me feel so good!! I found a pair of sneakers without a price tag that fit me well and that I really liked. I took them to the register and asked how much they were. Without even thinking, the employee immediately said they were $25. I told him that shoes in a thrift store shouldn't cost $25 and asked for a lower price. He replied, "Okay, then they'll be $24." This was the worst customer service and the worst staff I have ever encountered. I'd rather go buy a brand-new pair of sneakers at a regular store than come back here or donate anything to this place again. I do not recommend this place to anyone. It's an awful place with an awful staff.

Surprisingly we were offered a spot at the retreat due to last minute cancellations. We were in a campers dorm. There were four of us and the accommodations were clean and roomy. We each took a section of the campers dorm. We had privacy since the dorm area was not full. There were large bunk bed frames so taking your own sleeping bags and pillows is a must. I liked that the restroom was inside the cabin. The rates for the retreat are affordable and reasonable. Meals are included and accommodations are good but don't expect a hotel room. You are in camper mode. I am thankful that God led me to a place of serene support and love. The staff were attentive and great. The variety of activities and information was just what I didn't know I needed. Lots of self-care opportunities. I made lifelong friends there. The women inspired me to face whatever challenges may come in life. So many women in one place genuinely supporting and caring for you was EXTRAORDINARY. The activities were well planned and inspiring. I have now been in remission for several years....cancer-free. I wholeheartedly recommend this retreat for women. It truly makes such a difference when we come together as a community to help those in need. They make everything so easy and everyone here is always so welcoming! Stephanie and Jason are the two that are usually in the front helping you check in, so I have been able to talk to them the most. They both have such kind hearts and always make sure your experience here is great. Everything works smoothly here and the staff explain what to do perfectly. You start by watching a video that talks more about what Second Harvest is and what to expect during your volunteer shift. My personal favorite is grocery rescue, which is where you go to the cooler in the back and sort the good and the bad items that they receive from grocery stores. There are plenty of other options, depending on the day, like order pulling, crate washing, processing, bag cutting, etc. These are just some of the opportunities that they offer at the distribution center. They also have their own farm where you can spend your time picking the produce straight from the ground! Overall, this is such a great place to volunteer at. In the warehouse, they also show where all their products get distributed to. Below is a list of all the food banks in the area, if you ever need it!

I have never had an issue with a staff member here. I've been treated with respect, dignity, and politely by friendly people. I've seen rudeness between clients, however most of the time everyone is cordial and pleasant. You are allowed to browse most of the pantry yourself and select your groceries from a list with your family's allotment of each particular item. You walk around shopping with a clip board, pretty straight forward. The staff typically man the fridge and allow you to select what you like and they bag the refrigerated products for you right at the counter. There's a nice big waiting room, a clean bathroom, and plenty of friendly people around doing a lot of work to bring good food to those of us in need. Additional resources are available on a Posterboard outside the office, like local job training, free counseling and such. Really glad SCO has been there for my family

When the morning arrived, we were met by a check-in person, who in turn gave us some quick notes and passed us off to get instructed/assigned to our tasks. There was plenty of staff to get us up to speed so that we could be productive (harvesting celery and onions). The time flew and at our first break, were informed of all the wonderful things that the farm does and who/how many people it reaches who are without food. A very rewarding experience and also a good workout. I hope to come back and volunteer again.

Volunteers of all ages are welcomed to help plant, weed, and harvest at the Incredible Edible Farm (by appointment only). The staff is friendly and delegates the tasks efficiently; they also monitor if you need help. For our shift, we pulled weeds, harvested cabbage leafs (for burrito wrap in place tortilla), and picked ripe oranges. Fun experience, the labor makes you appreciate and respect farmers and not waste any food! TIP: 1. This is a popular site which operates Tuesday-Saturdays, 8:30am-11:00am and 1:00pm-3:30pm. Saturday shifts fill out 6 months in advance! 2. Bring a pair of gardening gloves. 3. During cloudy/misty weather, wear waterproof clothing or stuff you don't mind getting wet and muddy. 4. Volunteer shifts continue if it drizzles a bit, but will terminate in downpour. 5. Take your break as needed.

I adopted my new girl Shelby from Wagging Dog rescue a little over three weeks ago at a pet…read moreadoption event in Encinitas. It appears that they have dedicated foster parents who help transition these pups from shelter life to permanent placement in their forever homes. They were very honest with us about the dog we were adopting struggles with timidness and fear. They sent someone to do a home visit and we had to do an initial foster to adopt agreement for 2 weeks. If all worked out fine for both Shelby and our family then we were cleared to adopt. Which we did last Thursday. Shelby has had all her initial shots, was spayed and treated for fleas when we adopted her. All we needed to do was provide the love. Done. I would highly recommend Wagging Dog Rescue to anyone who is considering adopting a new member of their family.

First, let me say that this rescue helped me adopt my absolutely adorable, affectionate, and…read morespirited Shiloh. I love him. Both Natalie and Norma were very nice and helpful. However, the rescue's listing was an out and out lie! I needed a dog that was okay around cats, and I also preferred one who was house trained. (New dogs will have accidents in new environments, and that's okay, but previous training is helpful.) Shiloh was listed as "good with cats." He is NOT. I have three cats and he terrorizes them! Shiloh has been with me for 7 weeks, so not long, but if anything he's gotten WORSE around my cats, despite my efforts to calm him and guide him. Shiloh was also listed as "house trained." He is not! This, too, would normally not be a big problem for me. I have adopted several dogs and cats over the years, and I understand that accidents will happen. Shiloh, though. shows NO sign of any previous house training. He had accidents daily until I hired a trainer, and even then it only helped for a while. The listing with lies was on Rescue Me and Adopt A Pet. Before deciding on a new family member, I took several factors into account. I asked about both issues, cats and house training, before the adoption was finalized. It just didn't occur to me that the Muttly Crew folks would lie. They did. Just beware. I was blessed with a wonderful new friend in Shiloh. I can keep him separate from the cats. I don't mind cleaning up after him because I love him and he doesn't know better. I will have the trainer back for several more sessions.
