SCR presents first class theater! I'm a season subscriber for 40 years and I love not having to go to Los Angeles to see great plays!

I have seen several plays here over the years. I enjoy the small intimate size of the theater. Yesterday was my first time seeing A Christmas Carol. I think they did an excellent job. The gentleman who played scrooge was fantastic. His sense of humor made the play even more enjoyable.

South Coast Rep's Argyros stage is a small, cozy theater. All of the seats are comfortable and all offer good views of the performers--the photo below was taken from the last back row. I have seen some excellent performances here, most recently "The Staircase" on May 9th.

We just discovered South Coast Repertory, and we are now patrons forever! What a great theatre! We found it through an Instagram advertisement for "Little Shop of Horrors," which is one of my favourites, so we made a trek all the way to Costa Mesa from our humble abode in Lawndale on a Friday night. It was well worth it! The theatre is a medium-small size, and there really is not a bad seat in the house! Our seats from row J were fantastic, but I'm sure even sitting in the last row would give you an excellent view of the stage and actors! The seats themselves are standard. We loved this venue for its intimacy, decent prices, and lovely audience members. It was certainly a fun night going downtown, home to Skid Row! This company does something I have not experienced before, which is "Pay Your Age." Unfortunately, I'm too old for this discount, but my wife is still in her late 30s and makes the cut! This pricing worked well, as we saw a number of younger patrons in the audience, laughing, clapping, and dancing along! As an educator, you can also get a small discount on your ticket. There are a number of parking options around this area, as this theatre shares space with Segerstrom and is by a number of businesses and South Coast Plaza. We already have plans to return next season for a few shows. South Coast Repertory has become one of our favourite theatres!

We went to see Little Shop of Horrors and I was shocked at the quality of the show. The production was seamless and beautiful. The acting, sound, props and stage were amazing. I almost cried! Easy to find parking on the adjacent structures. You can buy wine, beer and other beverages. They'll put them in small cups with lids and you can bring them into the show. The seats are actually comfortable.

Very nice little theatre. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Much smaller venue than the Segrestrom. We saw Little Shop of Horrors. Fantastic performance! Top of the line professional actors and singers, choreography. We spent our 15 minute intermission strolling around the beautiful grounds outside. Just a short walk over the bridge to the South Coast Plaza with lots of dining options. I can't wait to go back and see A Christmas Carol. I have been to the Segrestrom many times, but this is my first time at the S C Repertory. Definitely coming back for more performances.

Although I had no idea what this play was about, or where South Coast Repertory was, I decided to put my name down for a pair of tickets during a silent auction, was the only person who bid on them so I won! and Wow, what a great decision to put my name down! This venue and production of Coleman '72 really set the bar high! Coleman '72 is about a Korean American family on a road trip across the US. It struck many chords with me being Asian American and understanding the delicate and complicated relationship between immigrant/refugee parents' heartache of sacrifice and struggle and their US born children's take on happiness and success. Their were also themes of guilt, forgiveness, and how nostalgia plays on our perception of truth and memory. I quote from the playwright, Charlie Oh, "nostalgia is dangerous." The actors' powerful performance left me in tears several times, partly in a cathartic manner as it conjured up my own memories and feelings of my father. Perhaps I was not the only one as I also heard other people blowing their noses in the bathroom just as I did. The venue was medium sized yet intimate. I like the small touches such as fun facts about Coleman products that were placed in the bathroom stalls. This place is a quick walk via the pedestrian bridge from South Coast Plaza. Highly recommend this play for high quality theater production and acting!

Beautiful theatre that honestly doesn't have any bad seats. The parking is a bit of a walk from the theater. I believe it was $15 to park. I went to go see, "A Raisin In The Sun" and had a blast. Great lighting and sounds. I would come back here again for another play.

Came here recently for the Little Shop of Horrors show. I've never seen the play but it was absolutely brilliant. There're really no bad seat in the house; all seats are relatively close. We did imbibe and got a beer and one of the novelty mixed drinks specifically for the show. There were cute small Audrey plants for sale. It was just all so great. Actors wore mics so it was easy to hear them from anywhere. It was great.

Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen ventured forth into the realm of the theatre. What a lovely venue! The small theater was perfect for being close to the players. The acoustics are perfect! This is a gem of a theater. Tickets are not too dear. Given the variety of shows playing, and the decent prices, this is a place that can be enjoyed often. The end.

My first time here to support my friend who were in a reading. The place was quite nice, parking structure was nearby, $12 for parking, or you can park on the street, closest place would be across the street then walk. Besides my friend's play. They also offering tours of the building, and they were having a playwrights festival for people who love theater arts and acting, definitely check it out, a lot of programs here

I introduced my wife to this before we were married as a date night. She was so excited about it that she said wanted to bring her patents the next year and I should bring mine. That was almost 20 years ago. Attending every year since even though we have lost family members. It's our tradition and I cannot think of a better way to celebrate with family and friends than by watching this marvelous production. It foes not matter how many times you have seen the movie, this is live theater at its best.

Ask the Community - South Coast Repertory

Looking for acting classes for my kids that have showcases with agents and managers in orange county. Are they non-existent?

SCR does have acting classes for kids as well as adults. I get emails all the time advertising upcoming acting classes. Whether there are any agents is unknown, they do not state that they have or have not such classes specifically.

"Dreams are something you have to believe in. I almost gave up on mine. To all of you out there,…read moreplease keep your dreams alive." - Ke Huy Quan, 2023 Oscar Winner for Best Supporting Actor When I was child in the 1970s, I loved watching television and the stories that the actors would convey over the screen. I loved how shows captured my attention with their laughter, escapism, or storyline. So, after 50 years of denying my dream and retiring from a 30+ year career, I started taking classes at the Actor's Studio of Orange County (ASoOC) in 2023 and studying the Seven Pillars Acting Technique. The Seven Pillars Acting Technique is a comprehensive acting technique that teaches you how to analyze scripts and how to "live truthfully under imaginary circumstances" because acting is so much more than just memorizing lines! Yet, the techniques are only words on paper. At ASoOC, I learned how to behave, speak, and feel as the character from all the wonderful instructors who brought the words and techniques to life! All working actors themselves, the instructors taught, encouraged, nurtured, and gently pushed/challenged/stretched us from the very first class of Living Truthfully to the very last graduating Showcase. All the while, they created a community where fellow students/actors encouraged, rather than competed with, each other. Lastly, students also learned the "business side" of acting, such as preparing their resumes, shooting their headshots, creating a biography, figuring out their casting types, etc. The business side (I needed to provide a biography) immediately came into play once I graduated! By nature, I am an introvert; yet, as I went through the classes at the ASoOC, I found myself emerging from myself and stepping up to the challenges of the given script (a shoutout to Victoria M. for nudging me!). Having recently graduated from the program, I am now making people laugh, allowing them to escape, or capturing their attention with the storyline. ASoOC is a wonderful community to learn the art of acting! Please keep your dreams alive!

I've been a longtime Pantages attendee and while I love the history, it isn't a comfortable theatre to sit in, nor easy to travel to. We even could place advance orders for drinks for intermission, which allowed us to take the time to snap photos at the varying Harry Potter themed areas and hit up the merchandise booth. The performance itself was incredible, the production value was beyond what I've seen in many older theatres, so consider me a fan of something new.
