I came into Moe's looking to trade my 50 year old Bach Stradivarius trumpet for a bass guitar for my son. I quickly realized that I was in a very cool music shop. Between Chuck, the owner, the music teachers that were around, and professional customers there was a lot of music being discussed and played. I passed Moe's a lot on the boulevard, but finally went in when I was thinking about picking up a new amp and guitar. I shopped around and was greeted with friendliness but also given my space to try out the guitars in the acoustic room without feeling any sale pressure. When I was finished, the gentleman (who turned out to be the owner) was cordial and down to earth. He offered me a few deals in advance, because I indicated I wasn't sure if I was just going to repair my old acoustics or just repurchase. I went on my way and later returned to purchase. The guitar I was in love with was gone because I waited too long, but the friendliness stayed. We made a reasonable deal, and he gave me more than one reason to want to return. The only things that keep me from the fourth and fifth star are that noise that comes from the lessons (which were clearly beginners!) but that would never stop me from going back. We were all beginners once. And hey we're playing instruments I knew nothing about. Also, a little more stock would be nice, but space is limited. I settled on a guitar half as good as I wanted, because I still found good product (Takamine) at good price with great people. What you see is what you get, plus good conversation. read more

Visited for the 1st time 12/20 and was overjoyed to find such wonderful customer service. Chuck the owner is so helpful and has such reasonable pricing. I had a new banjo to set up and he explained the setup while completing it. I heard him on several calls while we waited, he is amazingly helpful with all types of questions. He is why I still shop at local stores, much knowledge and desire to help!! He has instruments, cases, music etc. Also rents out some equipment, at least sound items. Went to Moe's on Saturday. First time in store. My intent was to have the action adjusted on a new guitar I bought in S.C. On vacation. Chuck was quick to help me. He was very courteous and immediately examined the guitar. He stated it would be ready on Monday and gave me an estimate. Guitar was picked up on Monday and work cost was within estimate. More of a "local" feel than those chain music stores. As a parent looking for a rental violin for my child, I wanted a good quality instrument for a beginner with a reasonable rental agreement. Owner very helpful, and knowledgeable about the books, etc. that local schools would require. No pressure, but lots of good information for parents. read more

The music world is fascinating. So much creativity and wonderful experiences. Moe's music is such a great place because it has introduced me to the art of the music world. It's an honest, quality run store that specializes in basically most of your musical needs. I'm a violinist and I've been a loyal customer for 3 years. I even take lessons there. I highly recommend the teachers they have there. Especially the classical music teacher, Mrs.Teresa, is amazing! She's absolutely excellent and always loves to see her students succeed. Then there's the amazing staff. The staff there is knowledgeable, very friendly and just, honest. They don't pressure you into anything. Want to buy a guitar? There's a room purely for trying them out and a staff ready to answer any questions about them. Need some advice? Again, a knowledgeable and ready staff is there! You get this sense that your part of a community that strives to always make music a great part of your life,something enjoyable. My favorite person there is Chuck, the owner of the store. He's a great person that always wants the best for his customers. If you need anything, whether they currently have it or not, they will make sure your able to get it. Chuck is a very experienced guy, he knows what the best or most requested things are by teachers/parents. He's also very wise, he knows what he's doing. I have to start off by saying I very rarely write a review. But I feel I should for this business. Chuck and his staff are awesome. My daughter was having issues with her saxophone. We brought it in to have it repaired and Moe's shipped it off. When we got it back we still had issues with it. With no argument Chuck sent the sax back to have it checked again with priority. Got it back with in a week and all was good. I just feel they go above and beyond and are very personable. They listen to what you have to say and don't rush you out the door. My wife spoke to the owner Friday evening and he quote her a price of $599 for a trumpet. The next morning I drove over and hour and a half though tunnel traffic and this guy tries to sell me the trumpet for $799! That's a $200 price hike! I believe in shopping small business over the large chains but if the owner is going to try to pull a bait and price switch on me I'll just go to Music & Arts where they are at least consistent with customers. ITS NOT PERSONAL , ITS BUSINESS..OR IS IT? If something can go wrong, it will. Emergency repair is needed when least expected... It never hurts to have more than one vendor, supplier or repair shop, you get the picture. Here's my review/story. Hector was playing just fine on Saturday morning as we were preparing our musical message for the upcoming event entitled "From the Vine." A Creative Collaborative endeavor featuring crafts, arts, photography, food and of course music. It seems, the preamp section, of my electric bass gave out as I was sculpting out the chord progressions for our original composition. This black cherry Schector 5 stringer (which I alone, liberated from the doldrums of "Low B city" into this E to C chord monster,) "It's gonna be good" I told myself. After all, my mantra is "practice makes better." Later that evening, I strapped that bad bouy on, fired it up aaaaannnnnddd....? Nothing. The only sound I heard from the guitar, were the strings exciting the air molecules adjacent to its rosewood neck. Oh Oh..It wasn't until after I changed the battery and guitar cable, that I realized, (gasping).. we may NOT be doing battle on Saturday night as planned! "Hector" was down! Monday morning the guitar tech was "off work" over at the store where I purchased and freed Hector from it's shackles. Guitar techs' need their Sabbath rest too. Next up, the review. Moe's Music of Virginia Beach, for customized, personal service, Chuck is your man! I contacted him Monday morning and by that afternoon Hector was in the store, and on the shop table. Pre-op was performed, initial diagnosis was not good. A guitar tech was summoned, and surgery was scheduled. Hours later the news came to me, yes, the organ donor was located but, no, the component needed wouldn't be available for delivery until the following Monday...oh oh. Dress rehearsal is this weds. my weapon of choice, that appendage I studied with , was to be temporarily replaced. ... gasping ..OH NO what am I to do? But wait, wait.. Ive got Audreys' bass in the studio. Uhh that's great but...4 strings, 4 strings? Muscle memory would have to be reoriented, synapses rerouted. Where do I place my digits? Do I string it up as E to G? Go old school? MY HIGH C.!! WHERE IS MY HIGH Ccccccc!? aaaaahhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Waking up from my pressure nap, I bit the bullet , paid the bucks, bought the set and strung it up. What ? Wait. In order play the chords I've written, I can't install the low E.. No low E? NO LOW Eeeee! The finale would not be complete, sans the open "e" at the end of the number BOOM, BOOM, BOOM...the bass needs to go BOOM, BOOM BOOM! Woe is me ..woe is me e e e e e . To be continued... By the grace of God, part came in much sooner than expected, thank you USPS... . Moes Music 2923 Va. Beach Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 23452 had the preamp in , up and running.
