I had gone to three other orthodontists before this, and their pricing honestly felt overwhelming--but Thurman Orthodontics was by far the most affordable option without sacrificing quality. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made every visit comfortable. They took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I felt confident moving forward with treatment. You can really tell they care about their patients and want the best outcomes for you. Overall, it was a 10/10 experience. If you're looking for a place that's professional, affordable, and has a great environment, I would definitely recommend Thurman Orthodontics!

When I expressed concerns about the final result, I was told everything "would settle" instead of a reassessment. After my braces came off, I was only seen by assistants, not the orthodontist. When I mentioned that something felt off and that my teeth seemed to be shifting, my concerns were dismissed rather than properly addressed. The retainers provided are extremely thin and fragile. They crack very easily, and I've had to return multiple times for replacements. Each replacement costs $20, and turnaround time for an appointment isn't always quick. Given how flimsy the retainers are, they don't provide the level of stability you would expect or need after orthodontic treatment, even with consistent wear. I asked to purchase a backup pair since they break so often, but I was told that wasn't allowed. When I raised concerns about relapse, instead of offering a small correction, I was encouraged to start full braces again, the most expensive option. There was no discussion of minor or conservative adjustments. Two years later after braces, my teeth have shifted significantly. In my experience, the retention plan and aftercare did not prioritize long-term stability. Retention is critical after braces. Once the active treatment was completed and paid for, the long-term follow-through was not a priority. I am now having to pay out-of-pocket elsewhere to correct shifting that a stronger retention plan could have prevented. If you choose this office, ask detailed questions about their retention protocol and long-term follow-up before committing. I would recommend choosing a provider who takes that phase seriously.

Golden Hills Dental, Coarsegold: 2025 Aug 14 (1 of 5)…read more Jessica, hygienist: 4.5 of 5 It was a day like any other, except I have a dental appointment scheduled. Although I don't have any pain, I wanted to see what a 'professional' dentist says. I found this clinic, not through referral or recommendation, but from a flyer I received in the mail. Once there, I completed their forms - the usual things we do as a new patient. They suggested a cleaning so I said yes. Since I had a complete mouth X-ray several months back, I urged them not to take any more X-rays. While I was waiting, I overheard the dentist telling the patient before me that she needed extensive work, but all that could be done the same day. With that much work, I was impressed. In my mind, I'm hoping that I won't need as much work as that poor lady. After waiting sometime, I was called in for a cleaning. The dental hygienist, Jessica was pleasant, professional and understanding. (4.5 of 5) When my turn came for the dentist to see me, he mentioned the amount of work I needed. He didn't spend much time with me, yet he was quick to diagnose the problems. I was in disbelief. My shock must have shown on my face when he said that. A red flag popped up in my head. I clearly just heard him say the same lines to the lady before me. "This is what you need. We can do the work the same day but you need someone to drop you off and pick you up. It'll take about four hours." The dentist then said Suzanne will go over the cost with me. I was shown into another room, and several minutes later, wearing a white coat, Suzanne came into the room. Imagine how dumbfounded I was when Suzanne said it'll cost seven thousand two hundred and fifty-three dollars for the work. I asked if I really need all that work done. She said she can give me $158 discount, and not charge for the sedation, but it'll still be over seven thousand dollars. I checked myself out with the breakdown of the work and said I'll think it over. I reached out to Golden Hill via email to see which tooth or teeth need immediate attention. I didn't hear back. (1 of 5) Needless to say, I opted for a second opinion. The dentist I went to mentioned that none of the work requires immediate attention, but I should watch out for any signs of pain or discomfort. I am glad I got a second opinion. I am flabbergasted that Golden Hills Dental has such little empathy for their patients. To that end, I'm glad they did not see fit to respond to my email.

Dr. Comfort quickly diagnosed the issue, and worked with Stacy, his orthodontist to quickly repair the issue. They were very professional and very friendly. Thank you Christopher and Stacy for saving my weekend! Even my dentist back at home as impressed with your work!

Public Notice Regarding Emergency Billing and Insurance Documentation:…read more Prospective patients should be fully aware of the financial and billing practices utilized by this office during emergency scenarios. On April 9, 2025, an upfront cash payment of $2,600.00 was extracted as a strict requirement prior to rendering emergency surgical care. Following a 69-day administrative delay, this provider submitted an official American Dental Association (ADA) claim form to Delta Dental of California intentionally inputting "$0.00" as the submitted fee for multiple major surgical codes performed. By masking the thousands in cash collected from the insurance compliance system, the provider circumvented PPO network caps, collected a second direct payout from the insurer, and caused a severe, artificial distortion on the official insurance ledger. This deliberate double-ledger accounting format has caused significant third-party legal complications regarding verified medical out-of-pocket records. This matter has been formally escalated to Delta Dental's Quality Management Division, their Risk, Ethics, and Compliance Department, and the Dental Board of California. If you have been subjected to this identical upfront cash-extraction practice by this office, please immediately file an official complaint with the Dental Board of California or reply to this review so we can coordinate data for the ongoing regulatory investigation. UPDATE: After I posted this review, Stacy contacted me and asked me to remove it, explaining that their billing issues were due to "their system not working." However, the office did not offer to correct the charges, issue a refund, or otherwise resolve the situation. I chose to let Delta Dental complete its investigation instead. After reviewing the claim, Delta Dental determined that I had been overcharged by approximately 82% and issued a refund accordingly. If you ever feel that a dental office has billed you more than your insurance says you owe, don't just accept it. Contact your insurance company, ask them to review the claim, and don't be afraid to dispute the charges if something doesn't seem right. In my case, taking the time to challenge the charges made all the difference.
