We love this restaurant and ate there twice on our vacation! For dinner, my husband and I shared a ribeye steak (a special, not on the regular menu). So flavorful and tender served with the best mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables. My daughters shared the Korean flat bread and the southern chicken salad. They said both items were great. We ended with a delicious piece of cheesecake. Since we enjoyed our dinner so much we went back for lunch a couple days later! read more

Moguls Tap Room is a great option post-ski, post-hike, or just during your resort stay. The food is rather good compared to the competition (and exceeded by expectations given it's a "resort restaurant"). The service is friendly and efficient. I recommend this above the other options in the area for sure and I commend the owners for keeping quality and experience high while effectively having guests be "captive". FOOD: I've had the burger and their salad. The burger was simple yet very much met my desires. It had a well chosen bun, good tasting patty, and perfectly crispy bacon. Truly simple yet perfect. The salad was beyond the normal level of restaurant salads. The protein on it (chicken) was flavorful and not a skimpy portion. This was an enjoyable salad (not a status earned lightly). I really do appreciate the ownership here for their food choice and the chefs for their execution of it. SERVICE: friendly, efficient. Nothing too much to say here. AMBIANCE: casual yet not too informal. Perfect for anything (friends, vacation vibes, or a nice date night)! I do highly recommend this option and will be back when I'm next in the area. read more

my husband goes up to Luton once a month for work so I decided to join him on his most recent adventure. He typically stays at Caribou Highlands or the hotel across the street but I prefer Caribou Highlands because of the amazing amenities and fun outdoor games! We hadn't tried Mogul's before surprisingly as we usually go into Grand Marais for dinner, but we just checked in and didn't want to drive anymore so just hopped downstairs to the restaurant. The staff was super friendly, super attentive, and super upbeat! We started with the artichoke dip that was incredibly creamy and cheesy! Wish we would've had a little bit more pita as the ratio was a little off, but it was still very good. My husband ordered the burger, which he thought was very juicy and I got the steak you can see from the photos it was perfectly cooked, so deliciously flavored, and it really filled me up! My fiancé & I went to visit here while on a weekend getaway up the North Shore. There are not many restaurant choices up here. It was Late November so there weren't the amazing views available to sit outside. For entrees we ordered the Tenderloin Philly & a Salad that included apples. We had reservations for 3 on a Sunday at 5:15pm weekend after Christmas-busy and got seated right away. Waitress and busser operated like ducks and kept their cool at all times. Never felt rushed. Let's me start with the positive...they are trying. I'm sure the staff doesn't love the fact that the space is pretty worn out and generic. I had a side salad and the Walleye cakes. My wife had the Walleye platter. Hey...we're up north. We should eat local. The salads were fresh and had a nice mix of ingredients, which is a good sign. The dressing was bottled. The fish was fine. Nothing special. Our server was friendly and eager. The bar service was terribly slow. Food before drinks is never a good sign. We came to ski and snowboard at Lutsen Mountain and stayed at the Mountain Inn. Moguls was the closest restaurant and we could conveniently walk to it. We were pleasantly surprised at the variety of food options. The wings were yummy especially the sweet Thai chili. The Walleye Cakes were delicious so was the Chicken Wild Rice Soup. I was looking forward to eating at Moguls last night. It's been several years since I dined there and it was always excellent. The service was great and the atmosphere was fine. However, the food was not. One of us had the walleye sandwich which tasted fishy. More important, it came too dark which means they either cooked it too long or they need to change the grease. All the other diners who ordered the fish sandwich were delivered the same dark fish. I had the chicken salad which looked like a salad from a food truck. The lettuce did not taste fresh. This is not what I expected of an Oddysey property. I also had the chicken Wild Rice soup, which was good and my friend had a Wild Rice burger what she said was good. My suggestion is they find someone to review the menu and then work with the chef to better prepare and present the food. read more

As there are few restaurants to be found north of Lutsen, we found Moguls just north of our hotel - eventually, as their sign is not lit from the outside and hard to spot. The service was very friendly and the food was spot on, though it doesn't stand out much from the typical bar fare you find along the north shore. There's no elevator for your senior guests, but overall the restaurant provides a good experience. read more

watched the big guy with arm tats reach his bare hands in someone's French fries and grab a handful and put that handful in somebody else's plate, the same bare hands that touched screens, menus, and literally everything else in the restaurant. didn't get a chance to press him about it, but hopefully somebody sees this review and will confront him about it because that is disgusting. read more

This was one of our dinner stops while staying in Lutsen. The restaurant and resort looks very new and is decorated with a ski motif (hence Moguls). We visited in the summer and still enjoyed our experience. We had reservations and were seated immediately. We had a nice table near the window to enjoy a view of the resort games area and Superior Forest. I opted for a burger and side salad. The bacon burger (no cheese please) was $15 and to sub a salad for fries or chips it was an additional $2. $17 for a burger meal seemed a bit pricey but it was good. Husband had a Merica Burger and fries and he enjoyed his meal. Fries were crispy, thinner. I loved LOVED that they served wine from the winery just down the road. I had a Boundary Waters Red which was great. After dinner, we sat outside and watched families make s'mores around a gas fire pit. Not quite the same experience as roasting marshmallows over and open fire (good part is no one left smelling like a Yule log). read more

The only thing that may be a bad experience is they said they were full tables & couldn't take us in the dining area, but it was dead before we ate & after we left. I got the mushroom burger with goat cheese & balsamic, but I added a beef patty & it was soooo good. We also got cheese curds & fried pickles which were also good. I so much wanted to treat my husband to a nice birthday dinner....epic fail here. They were EXTREMLY under staffed. Meaning there aren't enough "o"s on SOOOO SLOOOOW! We ordered and waited for drinks, waited for appetizers, waited for our wine to the point we asked the waitress where our drinks were. A half hour after that we were asking if she placed our dinner order. When she brought out meals my walley was okay, but extremely boney. I could deal with that, but, not the fact my sweet potato fries stuck together. My husband's N.Y Stip Steak was so salty he couldn't eat it. First time EVER! Now let's talk about the lightning. We have eaten here twice now over Labor Day weekend, mostly out of convenience since we are staying at Eagle Ridge Resort. Both times we had Jessica as our server. While she is very polite, she does not have the heart and soul of a server. I can say that, since I WAS one (and a bartender) for over 10 years. This entire place lacked a sense of urgency as we waited OVER 10 minutes to be greeted by our server and order drinks. In fact, when she did arrive we ordered our entire meal as well since we were waiting so long already. We had to retrieve our own drinks from the bar after seeing they were sitting there for more than 10 minutes. Our app came out ice cold after waiting well over 10 more minutes. Do you sense a pattern here?! I watched as the restaurant cleared out little by little since we sat after 8:15 pm, but our service never improved. They may have been under staffed- but that's not MY problem since it was a holiday weekend..... PLAN & STAFF ACCORDINGLY! Our dinner finally came out after 9:15 (almost an hour after ordering) on scalding hot plates, because they sat under the warmer for so long. Kitchen staff (cooks) ended up bringing drinks out and running desserts. I try to be very understanding to staff when I eat out because I have been in their shoes, but this was all so disappointing and added up to be a terrible experience quickly. read more

this is for the service. stood at the "wait to be seated" sign while 3 waitresses and 1 waiter were seated at a booth just looking at me and chatting away. finally another waitress came to take my order. the waitress talked to me like she was annoyed I was even there and made a very judgmental comment with a disgusted look on her face when she asked if I wanted to see the drink menu BUT only if I had someone with me that could drink. 1. I'm staying in the lodge 2. I'm very pregnant 3. I asked for a to go order 4. even if I did want to order a glass of wine with my meal that's none of her business 5. My wife and I had an excellent dinner this Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival at the table type we requested. The "Lake Superior G&T" bar with Duluth local distillery Vikre gin was perfect and a solid pour. My St. Louis Ribs were gently pulling off the bone, and the four table-side different BBQ sauces were a perfect complement. My wife's Big Wedge Salad + Pulled pork was also delicious. It's with reserve and disappointment to give this review. We support local Lutsen and Cook County places. Our server was great! Yay, Dakota! The place needs guidance. Employees eating, drinking before guests are served. Host watching while table goes without water. A server telling a table we are "behind" after getting up from booth w 4 available employees. Good management and guidance may have pulled resources together, etc. Felt bad for the staff. Had guests in from the Cities. May recommend just hitting the bar next time in town; set expectations. Please know the service was awkward but food was worth a thumbs up to the kitchen. So, if you don't mind amateur service, you won't even notice through the good beer, great spot and nice employees. Our family was hangry and famished as there were literally no places to eat from Two Harbors to Lutsen. After checking in at Cliff Dweller motel, we drove here. It was after 3 and it was our only meal. My son and I shared poutine. The only complaint was cheese curds were cold. I ordered salmon blt and salad. I ate salad and took a bite of salmon blt. I was full and son ate it before bed. I also had Lake Superior Kolsch and Castle Danger cream ale beers. My son and husband had a bacon cheeseburger and turkey club with fries. Also noticed dusty light fixture at our booth. Turnoff for sure. Server was nice, very pricy place to eat. read more

Not bad of a place, It seemed to cater to more of an upscale place and clients. I did enjoy my meal but felt the price and accommodations were off from one another. Stopped by in the early summer and waited 30 minutes to get my drink after getting seated then another 45 mins to get the food. Our waitress was Jessica and absolutely terrible. Understaffed and the food was not worth the wait. I would recommend going to one of the other places close by. you'll save time driving 20 miles to somewhere else. read more

Where do I start? We stayed the weekend up on the Minnesota Mountain known as Lutsen. We got in late so decided to order togo from the nearest restaurant, Moguls. The gentleman who answered the phone the first night seemed slightly impatient. However he did take my order of 5 dishes efficiently. We went to pickup the order and was there a bit early so decided to grab a couple beers in the bar. When the bar tender saud $19 please i was astonished! $9.50 for one beer!! Not once were we told to put on a mask. Which I was thankful. Once we got back to our condo I opened my box. I had specifically said no mayo because I choose not to eat animal products. However the dry looking gluten free bun was slathered with mayo and there were fries which I had also specifically asked them not to put in the box, since they are fried in the same fryer as chicken strips. The mushroom burger was a few diced button mushrooms thrown over a piece of lettuce and tomato...very disappointing for $13. The sautéed veggies for $8 was about 5 bites...definitely not worth it. I called and the did kindly give me a gift card. But honestly I didn't want to go back. Unfortunately I had to since that's where the rest of the group I was vacationing with wanted to go there the following evening. They hadn't been there the night before. Anyway we get there during supper rush and they immediately yell you must wear a mask! Which I found odd since the night before they didn't say a word. I decided to walk out because I will not subject myself to the fear mentality. My group decided to get a togo order because they didn't have room for our group of 13. It took 2 HOURS to get our food! It was ridiculous!! Thankfully we were hanging out by the pool and the kids were entertained. By the time we did get our food some of it was cold and the dish I got, Wild Rice Bowl, was burnt and it didn't even have wild rice in it. It basically was a burnt pile of brussel sprouts. I immediately went in and asked for a refund for the cold food and burnt food. They insisted I wear a mask. I told them that I can't breath with one on and they gave me angry looks. In the end they told me they never wanted to see my face in there again. And they tried kicking us out of the outdoor fire because they thought we weren't guests in the nearby condo. I have been coming to Moguls for years. I don't quite understand the recent harsh ratings. I just ate there tonight and the service was very good and the food for my entire table was excellent. Cedar plank salmon is really good. The prime rib is very good. Ribs and burgers are very good too. The walleye cakes are always a hit and the shore lunch Benedict is a favorite for breakfast. If your hungry and just want an appetizer, get the nachos and ask for extra Cajun sour cream. Delicious. A good selection of local brews are always available on tap. Staying at the caribou highlands lodge just made sense to eat here. Honestly was thrilled with my dinner. The white rice chicken soup to start off was delicious. The hamburger I had left me craving for more. Big win in my book. read more
