Although many…read morepeople think the curriculum is rigorous, the students are well prepared for the academics in university and are able to organize and perform well on their own. The campus is beautiful but most importantly the teachers are amazing educators who genuinely care for the students and often have their own children in the school. I spoke with Margie, in charge of Alumni Connections who told me to call back on Friday when she would have more time to speak with me and handle my issue. I remember feeling as if it can be handled right then and there when I explained it to her, and it wasn't so complicated. In fact the whole thing would have taken all but three minutes no matter how we resolved it. I left not one but two voice messages for her on that Friday at her request and she never called back. This was two weeks ago yesterday. I do not think she forgot and I don't think she is that busy. If she forgot to call back or didn't have time, then she can't handle her job very well. I feel as if it was done purposely though. If she does not want or is unable to cater to someone, there are more professional ways of handling it than telling a person to call in order not to call. I was surprised to see that such a fine institution as Hackley, hires staff that do not represent the extraordinary excellence they pride everyone else in their school in having; teachers, students and families. I think Hackley should have higher standards when screening out for certain roles such as Director of Alumni Engagement to better set an example for their students on how to interact with people.

Discovery Village Childcare & Preschool - Children with teachers design their classrooms as different places in our village. We learn through creating and living in our village place

They truly live by the saying "it takes a village"--actively involving parents and creating a real sense of community and family. The only reason we're leaving is due to a major change for our family, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Discovery Village to all of our friends and family.

Since enrolling our son in July 2019, we have been provided nothing short of high quality child care by a supportive, compassionate, and safety-minded staff and leadership team. We were present during the transition to the current web/app-based communication and documentation tool. It has provided us with a more than adequate level of security and connectivity with the daycare. Since the roll-out of the system last year, it was made clear that it was the parents' responsibility to check-in children on arrival. To think that a teacher should take the extra time - away from the other kids in class - to make up for your own irresponsible mismanagement of the platform is selfish and ridiculous. I, for one, am completely satisfied that the teachers prioritize direct care of the children over task-saturation within an online recording tool. The app-based tool has also provided parents with secure, direct access through a bluetooth-enabled unlocking system. Anyone that would consider providing access to this app to an unauthorized person is a security risk, and I think we are a safer community with this person gone. When I exit the facility, I either wait for someone entering to do so with their own access or I confirm with the staff at the front desk that the person belongs here before opening the door. I hope that everyone would challenge me in the same way when I enter! We are a community of families and should each have a vested interest in the safety of our children that supercedes an ease-of-access mindset. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 health crisis, the leadership at Discovery Village has been completely transparent about the challenges of both managing a business and meeting the demands of working parents in this environment. The center quickly adapted to the new normal by implementing more than the State-required sanitation protocols and providing regular updates to families. We suspended our enrollment in late March and returned to the village in May and have had ZERO complications. The idea that Discovery Village is, was, or has been lax about their cleaning and COVID protocol mandates is a baseless and belligerent accusation. This team is professional to the core! I would be remiss to not mention that our son absolutely loves his teachers at Discovery Village. He is happy as can be every day we pick him up and his learning and curiosity is clearly nurtured. I recommend this center to anyone looking for high quality care by a team that is genuinely invested in the well-being and development of your child. Thank you for all that you do.

From extremely harsh punishments that were entirely unjustified to rules that forbid any sense of creativity and enjoyment, I can literally confirm to you I would've had less depression growing up if my mother was in jail for not getting me to school successfully. Every single argument I was in with another student led to me being punished entirely, with the actual offender getting away scot-free. This was even extended to conversations that weren't even arguments. I suggest an idea for something, and the teachers decided to punish me for it. If I ever had a problem with another student, I would get yelled at for having the audacity to protect myself from getting mentally hurt. If I had a problem with a teacher, my mother would be called and she would punish me in ways that, again, weren't reasonable at all, and only served to increase my depression. I wasn't ever allowed to use the phone myself in order to properly file complaints I had regarding other people in the classes I was in to any managers of the school. In fact, self-defense and knowing when and how to get help is NEVER taught in this school. Literally never. The best (/sarcasm) part about this school is how when you're being punished, the only thing these teachers do is yell at and berate you to scare you into not doing it again, and it will literally never cross their mind that they might be acting a little too... extremely harshly towards a child. They don't ever calm themselves down in order to try and explain to you why what you did was wrong (Spoiler alert: What you did might not even be the wrong thing to do, actually! If anything, you will be punished for doing the most RIGHT thing!). Every single teacher I've had had this seriously annoying superiority complex against their students and it drove me up the wall. I've had a teacher call me a bitch, in a room where profanity wasn't permitted, and forced me to apologize to HER for calling her out on it. I've had another teacher accuse me of theft, with literally no proof to her accusation, despite being fully determined to put me in jail for it. I've had another few teachers attempt to gaslight me into believing I never went to see a movie I literally went to see. I've also had teachers blame me solely for horrible actions they decided to cause themselves. This school is a nightmare. Nothing of value is taught in this school, I don't know how to maintain motivation or energy to do things I enjoy doing because my mother never signed me up for Occupational or Physical Therapies, but at least I speak amazing English for the constant Speech classes I was given. I may not know how to care for others in non-financial ways, or even myself, for that matter, but at least I know how to Earth Science and Algebra 2. I would also like to add in the fact going to and from school gave me a genuine fear of school buses, but that's not relevant to the school itself. Stay away from Hawthorne Country Day if you wish to keep a healthy, stable relationship with your children.
