The receptionist made us wait over an hour for a simple shot, and when I politely asked why it was taking so long (and mentioned that we scheduled an appointment because we had somewhere to be), she berated me. Completely unprofessional. The vet himself is good, but the staff is horrendous. Sadly, the way the front desk treats clients ruins the entire experience. Dr. Kang and his staff are amazing.. My rescue dog was sent home with a 30 day supply of a antidepressants, I went to Dr. Kang, my regular vet, for a refill. When they saw the cost, they provided a paper prescription for me to take elsewhere. I was able to get it filled at Costco for less than $10.00. I've been taking all my pets to College Pet Clinic for the last 20yrs. I believe they are the last "Mom and Pop" veterinary business around. They are friendly, welcoming and I feel like part of the family. Dr Kang (pronounced Dr. Kong) has always had good intuition along with his continuing education make him valuable and will take the time to explain your pet's situation which sometimes might take him over into the next person's appt, please be patient with him, knowledge helps calm the fear some owners have. You will get used to his Korean accent soon enough as well. They are still affordable compared to the corporate owned veterinary businesses. I can only think of 2 times they raised their office visit prices. They are open to requests if you want specific things checked out on your pet. Another important factor is that Dr. Kang doesn't just jump to surgery right away on some circumstances, he will attempt a conservative approach if appropriate, if no improvement, then he'll recommend surgery. For example, a family member brought their dog in for a small lump on the left side of their dog's back, they were fearing cancer and that she would need surgery, Dr. diagnosed as fatty tissue, made tiny hole and removed. She has a tiny scar but not noticeable just looking at her. The secret of this wonderful business is out, so it may take a bit longer to get an appt but well worth it in my personal opinion. She is snarky and seems like she hates her job. Usually vet techs are warm and welcoming and sweet to our pets but not her. Do not recommend to come here strictly because of her. I started bringing my Shar Pei Oliver here since he was 9 weeks old, Dr. Kang is really knowledgeable with this specific breed. After seeing a few specialist Oliver needed entropion surgery and we decided to let Dr. Kang perform the procedure. He saved Oliver's eye sight! Oliver's also gotten neutered here and had his ears deep cleaned. Overall this is my trusted vet, and the staff are really friendly. Shar peis are known to be an aggressive breed and they're really good and patient with what they do. I live in San Diego so coming to see Dr. Kang is worth the 45 min drive! I honestly don't know if it's fair to write this updated review but I'm so brokenhearted that I need to share. Again, Dr Kang is nice. I brought in my Maggie because she had a lump growing rapidly under her neck. Dr Kang's response just by feeling it was "oh no, not good". He suspected lymphoma. He was able to do a biopsy that day and planned treatment going forward was not to be aggressive with chemo given her age. (We adopted as from a rescue as a senior). The plan was to go conservatively with Prednisolone. After the biopsy, she went home with antibiotics and needed to return in a week to go over the results and check the sutures. That following week, the results confirmed that it was Lymphoma. We left with Prednislolone which she started the following morning, twice a day for one week and then once a day from there on out. I asked how much time did he think we would have with her and he originally said three months to a year but then said maybe six months. She was to come back for a suture removal the following week. We returned the following week to remove the sutures. She had been doing great, she was eating great, walking around happily, and had been on the Prednisolone for a week. This was on a Friday and in the early morning hours of Sunday, she was gasping for air, difficulty breathing, I couldn't move her, she would cry in so much pain. I tried to keep her as comfortable as possible. I talked with a vet online and they said the panting is likely a side effect from the Prednisolone. I didn't want her to suffer. She already had death sentence with the Lymphoma. I contacted an in-home euthanasia service that I used two years ago with my Sasha-Bear. The vet who came to my house said that there was edema (fluid building up around the lymph nodes). Maggie was struggling to breathe. She said that this must've been an aggressive lymphoma because the Prednisolone should've started shrinking the swelling right away. Here's where the Monday morning quarter-backing comes in: Did the lab report from the biopsy indicate the level of aggressiveness of the lymphoma because I wasn't told b-cell or t-cell or a state of any kind. Did something happen in the surgery during the biopsy that might've got nicked to trigger the edema? Should we have started the Prednisolone the day he suspected it was Lymphoma? Why did he give 3 months to a year? It was only two weeks from Biopsy to Suture Removal and now she is gone. This two dogs in two years that I have lost. The first one, possibly to the Denamarin that was prescribed and was told it was like a supplement to prevent cancer but it isn't. I should have researched it. It's only supposed to be used on temporary basis monitored by the vet. And now, I've lost another fur-baby. I'm heart-broken. read more

They have good prices but I kind of question their judgement. I do however like how they treat our dogs. I questioned some red stuff on my dogs tummy and got cut off because they thought it was fleas but I've never seen any on her. When questioning it they just kept saying it was fleas. so we got the medication anyway. Then went back because it wasn't better and was told it was acne.... Not sure if it was a mix up but it really made me question their judgement. The place also has an unpleasant smell. read more

I would like to start by thanking Dr Kang personally for his time today. I came to College Pet Clinic today with my 9 year old Dogo Yuki. Our friend and trainer referred me to Dr Kang after going to 4 other surgical centers and veterinary hospitals and clinics over the past two weeks. All I received from them everyone one was NO hope and huge inflated estimates from arrogant, elitist vets. Yuki has a long history of squamous cell carcinoma and mass cell tumors. Sadly, at thanksgiving we boarded her when we went out of town and upon our return another large mass popped up. This one was angry and grew so fast and was very vascular. Of course we immediately had her seen by her dermatologist, an internist as well as two surgeons. I was told everything.... from she needed to be put down to handed estimates upwards of 10k!!!!! I was confused and so upset. Yuki is a huge part of our family and my kids didn't know what her future held anymore than I did. That is when my husband reached out to our friend and truly until today I had lost hope. However, the second I was greeted at the front counter I knew immediately I was walking into a clinic where people cared. Into a clinic that had the well-being of my sweet Yuki as Dr Kang's number one concern. Dr Kang spoke of her quality of life!!! How he had confidence he could help her. He laid out a definitive plan in writing. He took control of a situation that I felt I had lost complete control of a month ago. Dr Kang was frank about her prognosis and truly LOVES animals. He is a master with the scalpel and is light years ahead of any other vet I encountered. He removed this huge half pound mass and handed her over to me at 730 pm Friday night. Before he handed her off to me he went over what he did, how it went then he proceeded to get on his hands and knees washing her off as he showed me how to preform her aftercare. He looked on as she went potty assuring me that all will be fine. I believe in him and I would urge anyone that has a dog that needs to be seen by a vet call Dr Kang office. Dr Kang is good to use for basic care such as spay /neuter, flea prevention, vaccines. They are caring and it is nice that they keep their costs low. I would rather pay more and feel confident about the care my pets receive. I had 2 negative experiences. The first time was a stray cat who was skin and bones and nursing. Dr Kang didn't check her for worms She continued to lose weight so we took her to another vet and she had worms so badly. The second and last experience was when my senior boy was having fainting spells. He had just had his senior check up (there at Kang's office) blood work was good. When we took him in, Dr Kang said it was something like adrenaline when he gets excited. It kept happening. We took him to our now current vet and he had degenerative valve disease. The first thing our new vet did was to listen to his heart and looking back I don't even think Kang did this during his yearly check up (he was 13 years old). His heart murmur was a 4 out of 6 so easy for a Dr to find. Will never recc again. read more

Dr. Kang spent a lot of time with my dog Mojo, and he was very thorough with his explanations. The lab work was available immediately. He also did x-rays and explained them very well. I live in Temecula but I love this clinic so much we don't mind to drive all the way to ocean side which is about 40 mile drive. First they soooo care for all the pets who are walking to the door. They greeted with a proper manner - happy or sad depending on the reason of visit. You can totally tell they really care for each pets. Second, they are honest and the price is super affordable. Compare to the vet we went in Temecula, they only charge a quarter or less than we used to pay. Third, the doctor is so through with all the symptoms and knew exactly what to do. He is very experienced and knowledgeable doctor. Our recent visit was an emergency visit, they asked us to just come over, they prioritized the urgency and took care of our dog regardless of their busy schedule. Then my grand daughter tried to tell her she had a kitten but the lady didn't want to talk to her not even a tiny smile. Then I asked about our appointment she said I did not have one a lady named Acklund had it. Finally! I found a vet for my fur babies that I absolutely love!!! Dr Kang and his staff are wonderful! They are attentive! I actually got to go in with my babies and keep them close! I have called everywhere trying to locate a decent down to earth, honest to goodness, caring vet office for the last 2 years since I pulled my babies out of the once loved Surfside Animal Hospital. I will never go any place else! I took my little Pinky (chi mix) to surfside last November to have them help his injured knee. He limps, he can run or jump anymore so I brought him in. I suspect that pinky's issue was a slipped patella. $880 later, nothing done. No help. No diagnosis. No tests. Just ok bye the bill comes to $880. I'm thinking "is this the twilight zone???" Now that I finally paid off that monster bill I finally found the care I want for my precious furbabies! $177 later ( and shots for both babies, exam and medication AND correcting pinky's slipped patella allowing him to be relieved of the pain!) I've used multiple vets for my dogs as I've moved around California, and I can honestly say this is the best by far. Excellent prices, sure, but really the selling point is just that they've gone the extra mile for my dog. When I had him neutered, I went to pick him up and the vet techs were playing him in the office. There's a genuine sense that everyone there enjoys working with animals and brings a huge amount of enthusiasm and passion. I've called and brought my dog in for a few random issues here and there, and they've always followed up with me over the phone after visits and given great advice and feedback. The front desk staff and the techs in the back were extremely rude. They acted like I should know everything about the procedure and their policies. Clearly if it's my first time at the clinic, you should let me know BEFORE i pick up my pet what I need to bring. The staff didn't say hello, thank you, have a nice night, nothing. I switched my pets to this vet office during covid, because they were the only vet I could find in Oceanside that would allow you to come in with you pet! We had just gotten a new puppy, and I did NOT want to wait in the parking lot while some stranger took my puppy away into an exam room. Anyway, College Pet Clinic has been amazing! They take the time to explain everything, and always listen to your questions. They are very kind to my dogs, and very knowledgeable. I recently took our puppy in for her spay surgery, and of course I was nervous. But they were amazing! They took great care of her and did an amazing job. I would highly recommend this vet! Horrible experience with this vet. My partner and I took our 1 year old dog in here to be treated for a pseudopregnancy and they were CONFIDENT the only way to treat her for this was to spay her (we eventually planned to spay her but thought we had to wait for the pseudopregnancy to pass). So we went through with the surgery and a week later, our dog had large, hard masses growing on her belly and still no sign of the pseudopregnancy going away. When we took her back in to follow up on this, the vet was confident that the masses were just milk production from the pseudopregnancy that would all go away on its own. 2 weeks after surgery, the masses got bigger and feverish, our dog was acting like she was in pain and we were concerned about them being infected. So my partner called the office immediately and explained his concerns, only to be told they wouldn't be able to see her for 10 days and to take her to a emergency hospital if there was an issue. Evidently this didn't seem urgent enough to them. So we called another vet that got her in immediately since they felt this was considered an emergency. We found out not only should she NOT have been spayed during this pseudopregnancy, but these masses on her belly are indeed infected. So after another $400 bill and 2 different medications from our new vet to fix all the problems this vet caused us, I called the office last week to explain what they had done so they won't do this to someone else's poor fur baby. They assured me I'd get a call back from the vet or whoever is in charge by the next day and I still have not heard from anyone. Newest update: Yesterday, my partner had to take our dog back to the vet AGAIN to treat her for a bad reaction to the poorly done stitches after her surgery. The vet yesterday had to pull out the stitches that were left because they were not properly dissolving. This is a MONTH after surgery and her incision still isn't healed. I'm absolutely floored at the way our poor fur baby was mistreated and the lack of concern from this office for the MANY mistakes made by this vet and his staff. read more

I've been going there for a couple years. Nothin spectacular but I enjoyed dr. Kang he was very attentive and spent time with me explaining what was wrong with my dog. I went in for a worm treatment for my dog last week and came back this week for the second half of the treatments. I assumed I paid for the treatment already and when the girl gave my dog the pills and said okay you're all set, I walked past the receptionist and said thank you so much. She says you still have to pay and the other girl started laughing and said yeah we just work for thank yous and she did this in front of other customers in the vet and I felt very humiliated with them laughing. Have to agree with my wife's review. Very clean clinic and very warm staff, especially a dedicated veterinary Dr. Kang who seats down with you and explains each step in his elevation. Brought our puppy in to get ready for our travel to Japan, though it's a hard process our puppy is a member of our family. Dr. Kang took the time to explain the Japanese K-9 policy and the importance of each step... Really recommend this clinic! NOTE: Traveling with a pet to Japan is very expensive and Dr. Kang is knowledgeable with each requirement. read more

Dr Kang is the best vet I have ever been to. He loves my dogs and they love him. He doesn't gouge you and looks for inexpensive and preventative ways to keep your babies safe and healthy. He put staples in our boy who sliced himself jumping in a woodpile. I think my baby actually enjoyed that visit. He's that good. The nurses are wonderful. I have dogs and cats. I bring them all here. My dog, Jasper, usually hates the vet but he comes in here, tail wagging and greeting everyone like they are old friends at a reunion. They each get treated with high quality care. The whole staff is great. The clinic has a mom and pop shop vibe - cozy, familiar, friendly. Dr. Kang is incredible. He is a wealth of knowledge and has an uncanny pet whisperer vibe. I also have to give a shout out to Carol who keeps everything in order and Andrew who lights up a room with his jovial, helpful, demeanor. Highly recommended! read more
