We were clients of Tri-City veterinary clinic for 11 years, first with our elderly dog who died four years ago and then with our puppy that we adopted a few months after the first died. Tri-City Vets have been excellent caregivers and truly care about our pets as well as everyone else's. Our dogs received the best of care there. To be honest, and I hate writing this, but we didn't have a good experience here. This vet was recommended by a local friend who has lived in OSide for 20+ years. We thought we would have a good experience based on their recommendation. When our cat was sick and we called for an appointment, not only did they not help us get in, but they also didn't recommend any other places. Furthermore, the woman on the phone wasn't empathic and, dare I say, borderline unprofessional. As a former business owner, I wouldn't want that person answering my phones. It's because of her that this clinic lost our business. She was short and not very helpful. We ended up going to the VCA in Escondido (Acacia) and had a really good experience from the first phone call to check out. It's all about touch points with clientele and from the first touch point with Tri-city, we were disappointed. Not even because they couldn't get us in same-day, but mostly because of the woman on the phone completely FAILING at her job. My wife and I hung up and both said synonymously, "we will never take our pets there." Giving 3 stars only because it would be unfair to give only one star (even though that was our experience) based on the phone person alone without seeing a vet. read more

Aa always, we walked away extremely satisfied with Dr. Wylder Porte Jr. and his amazing staff. We took our extremely feral cat in today for a painful claw condition and they worked their magic handling him in a very gentle way and took care of his problem. I can't say enough good things about Tri-City Veterinary Clinic's team. They are kind, wonderful people and excellent pet healthcare providers. They offer reasonable prices and are available when we need them. As a matter of fact, Dr. Porte saved our dog's life when she was hit by a car several years ago, and we rushed into the office for help. The team stopped what they were doing to stabilize our dog so we could take her to the animal hospital. Dr. Porte also cared for our cat. He is very knowledgeable in cat behavior. I took my dog in for gook in his eyes, and I expected that there would be tests and charges, so I wasn't surprised when I went to the desk and received the very high bill. However, no one told me the cost of the tests before they were done. I accepted this and paid the bill because I did realize they would run tests to diagnose. I returned for a recheck and my dog was taken out of the room and tests were done - once again I was not advised on the cost of these tests. Stupid me I failed to ask, and afterwards I was handed a completely unexpected very high bill at the front desk. If you go to this vet make sure you ask them what tests they're doing when they take your animal out of the room and how much it's gonna costs, so that you are not taken by surprise like I was. read more

I considered the new management to be very unprofessional. As we parked in the parking lot with a cat in the car for an appointment that had been clearly planned based on specific needs, we called in for the signs for permission to bring in the cat. We were approached McDonald's, french fries style with a marketing deal to get a test. I tried to get some understanding of why I was being asked, but I guess it's just because they are told to market this test after you arrive and are waiting in the parking lot. I asked the veterinarian, who is the son of the previous veterinarian, if the test was needed, and it was clearly not needed. I'm used to going to veterinarians that operate like medical institutions. First, the staff come in and go over any details. If there is a reason for a medical procedure, it is based on the medical need. It's not based on fundraising through specials. you do see that kind of advertising, but it is separated from the time when you walk in for an appointment or is visible maybe on the wall. To interrupt a planned medical process with advertising while you sit in your car with a pet is ridiculous. It's a small place. Friendly enough. I'm sure they are fine. There are many places that are more established. Medical treatment needs to be based on the needs of the animal and not based on selling specials at time of arrival. read more

Found this vet through a referral from a family member who had some major dental work on her chihuahua and she could not say enough nice things about them, in particular Dr. Porte. I had been bouncing around for many years at 3 different veterinarian offices by my home for all of my dogs life and decided to give them a try. I continue to be so impressed with this office.The receptionists are so nice and welcoming and ask all the right questions and are really patient. Dr. Porte and his assistants are always so professional and considerate. It really feels they are trying to solve issues and priorities your pets health. My dog was having issues with his teeth and had inflammation on his snout I thought he maybe needed extraction but with an alternative route and adjusting his diet it was realized a better course of action would be antibiotics. He is very happy and comfortable now and has no issues with his appetite or teeth. Im so glad me & my minpin Root found this place he is 17 and living his best life. read more

I wish I could give a better review, but at the saddest time, these people added injury to insult by charging me $200 to put my beloved pet down due to his age and health issues. I called when it was time, it just broke my heart in pieces to put my 20 year old dog down. When I got the bill, I about fell over. You would think for two shots and a bag to carry him out in, it would have been less. I buried him in the yard, so they didn't even have to handle the remains. I'm very disappointed. $200 for that is just excessive. read more

Victor talked me through new patient registration since we weren't current members of the clinic and reviewed pricing. The nightly rate based on my dog's weight was less than $30, and I opted for a bath at the end of his stay which was about $40 including nail trimming...very reasonable pricing! Before I get started, know that I'm always careful not write or say anything negative of anyone before considering all situations, sides, and perspectives. And I never get personal. That said: We were very disappointed with Dr. Ken Porte and (most of his) staff. I say this with no pleasure, but instead to let be known the regret we have in choosing this practice and also to hopefully spare another animal from what we consider, subpar care. In summary, it is my strong and informed position that he: - Delayed adequate and proper treatment of my dog's condition leading to a more rapid onset of diabetic condition - Failed to provide additional treatment options which resulted in accelerating my dog's cataracts and subsequently his premature blindness - Was not sensitive to the costs in diagnosing and treating my dog by way of superfluous tests and procedures - Provided medical information which conflicted with the other veterinarian at his practice - Sanctioned (directly or otherwise) his employment of rude and unaccommodating front office clerical staff. On a positive note: - He did spend a considerable amount of time explaining how to administer insulin injections and did call us back to answer our questions early on in the process - His medical assistants were very polite and helpful My general feeling is that Dr. Porte just does not care. His bedside manner is off-handed and his care for (our) animal under his care is cursory and happenstance at best, and, if i can be so bold, negligent at worst. We strongly feel that his lack of urgency and, quite frankly, passion, led to a rapid degradation in our dog's health with an equally poor prognosis. After diagnosing our dog with diabetes, Dr. Porte wasted precious time as elevated sugar levels ravaged our dog's eyes and organs. He did so by subjecting us to accommodate weekly in-clinic blood tests month after month after month in an attempt to get our dog's daily injectable insulin meds, "just right". I realize the logic; vets need to be careful not to increase insulin dosages too high/fast, but in retrospect (and from what we know now), Dr. Porte spent far, far too much precious time on this which resulted in run-away blood glucose levels over many months and a rapid progression of our dog's diabetes. And when we asked him what specific diet our dog should be sticking to, he say that we could feed him "anything" as long as he ate to satiation. On asking him, half jokingly, if a bowl of pasta would be ok, he said, "sure". Unbelievable. Moreover, throughout all this time and after, Dr. Porte never once prescribed anything other than insulin, to slow down the progression of the disease. I write this now with the benefit of hindsight and the regret that we wasted so much time in treating our pup. Unfortunately this account is in stark contrast to the excellent care we are receiving from our current vet. Immediately on examining him, she recommended a low carb/moderate protein/fat diet, and sent us home with anti-inflammatory eye drops to help slow down the unavoidable blindness, which is all too common in diabetes. Alas, had we cut to cord with Dr. Porte sooner... As for our pup, he is still going strong (knock on wood) well over 4 years since being first diagnosed AND still living 2 years more than Dr. Porte said he would. He's now almost blind and deaf but still perks up when we grab the leash. So in summary, this is a cautionary tail: Be aware, do not blindly trust, do your homework and ask questions. As for Dr. Porte, I personally don't think he's a bad fellow, and maybe he genuinely once meant well, but the facts speak for themselves. Best of luck. Simon and Sandi Harrison read more

I got my kitten neutered here and it was great and easy. It was extremely cheap for him to get neutered, pedicured, and microchipped compared to all of the other places around. They were very thorough with me and the staff was friendly. The building and everything inside was a little bit outdated and they also asked me for his vaccination record one hour before they closed (the day before) and said if I couldn't get it to them within the hour they'd need to vaccinate him again. I understand that but asking ahead of time would've been great as I was at work. Overall, I suggest this place and would go back! read more

I've been going to Tri-City for 7+ years. Doctor Porte is an amazing doctor; a super caring down to earth incredibly easy to talk to man. Most important he would never recommend anything that he wouldn't do on his own animal he has never once oversold me on anything and more than a couple times I've pushed for a procedure or treatment and he pushes right back if he doesn't think necessary. You can be sure the treatment you get is exactly what he would do for his own pets. The facility could certainly be nicer but the care & pricing is excellent. In fact his prices are more than reasonable so hard to bitch about the shabby furniture & building... much. read more

Dr. Porte is the vet we've been looking for ... for decades. We have a bloodhound with chronic eye and ear issues. We dreaded going to our previous vets because they wanted to put her under anesthesia every time. Our old vets would say they couldn't examine her eyes or ears because she wouldn't let them look. (I witnessed one short attempt less than a few seconds before immediately recommending putting her under). We were ready for another opinion. Our girl is 10 years old and we were nervous about putting her under... but also the cost was killing us with the frequency. Enter Dr. Porte and his team into our lives. They have always have gotten her in in a timely manner. Always very kind and accommodating. Dr. Porte spent a great amount of time with our girl and actually sat on the floor with her! talked to her, pet her, and made her feel so comfortable. She let him look at her eyes and ears! I was in shock. She wasn't immediately dismissed and recommended to go under like in the past. She even kissed his hand which is a HUGE HONOR with this girl. She is very stingy with kisses. You can tell he loves what he does and loves animals- he's a natural! He gave us options starting with least invasive with the recommendation to only escalate treatment IF we needed to. For that I am forever grateful. He seriously made my whole family feel so good about our fur baby's care. We don't have a fear going to the vet anymore. We are doing things the right way thanks to Dr Porte. We take all three of our dogs there now :) Afraid of more people finding Dr Porte after posting this... but he deserves the recognition for what a wonderful provider he is (I'm a Dr myself), his staff, and the experience and treatment approach are superior to anything I've ever experienced. read more

We went to Tri-City Veternary Clinic for the first time last week due to our dog having severe episodes of what we believe might be seizures. We highly recommend this veterinary office-- Dr. Kenneth Porte is a great doctor and he has a great team. Victor was able to get us in the office same day, right before Christmas. Dr. Porte also called us first thing Monday morning like he said he would to go over the follow-up test results. He spent nearly 30 min on the phone with us discussing next steps. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!!!!!!! I took my dog here to get a simple shot and asked if we could go back they said no. Ok that's fair and then I've never heard a dog scream like this before. The entire place you could hear her screaming. After it was continuing and getting louder we asked 3 more times before we walked into them strangling her with catchers pole and she was unable to breath. They were trying to muzzle her also. They riled her up so bad she POOPED HERSELF. There were also 7 people standing around the operating table. This traumatized my dog and me and David Morris. There is a report filed please don't let this happen to any other animals. PLEASE SHARE THIS! If we hadn't barged in they could have killed her. She also has injuries on her butt and back. She has a sore on her eye now and missing fur on her back. As well as horrible swelling and possibly major injuries. read more

Where do I start! 1. They performed surgery on my dog, and it was done incorrectly, so we had to take my dog back in for the same surgery, and we had to pay again for their poor performance! 2. The medication that was provided had the wrong dosage amount, so it wasn't working. I finally figured this out when my dog wasn't getting better, and i pulled out the medication instructions from the box. 3. I then asked for my dogs records, and the front staff girl was extremely rude to me and told me it would take 2 months!!! 4. I called and asked for my dogs records again, and they stated that I never requested them. (To this day, i have never received them) I'm sooo DONE with this place!! read more

One of the great values that sets TCVC apart from other clinics is their willingness to approach each issue with small, cost effective steps first. They don't recommend or perform outrageous, unneeded procedures until each less invasive and less costly treatment has been tried. This puts less stress on your pet and less stress on your wallet! Absolutely love this clinic, the doctors, secretaries, and staff! They are always able to fit me in last minute for emergencies and, due to my busy schedule, are always able to reschedule appointments within a few days! Dr. Porte sees all three of my dogs: Sam, Stella, and Princess! He has been our doctor since Sam and Stella were both 8 weeks old. As soon as we adopted Princess we brought her right in. The Vet techs always are happy to see my babies and know them all by name without looking at the file! Highly recommend the puppy plan as well! Best vet clinic in Southern California for sure. They are friendly, take good care of your pets, and won't break the bank, which is about as good as it gets for a veterinary service. The doctors and technicians are all fantastic and treat the animals and owners with a lot of kindness. Parking is easy and plentiful, and during the pandemic, they have made appointments and prescriptions very easy by sending masked technicians out to your car to take and return your pet while you wait or as part of a drop off and pick up routine--no need to wait in a waiting room. I take both of my kitties here and they have never gotten so much love!!! Kisses and treats from the moment we walk in. They had to board at the facility while our condo was being tented and they were treated with fuzzy blankets and if needed kitty beds. Wtf to the vet techs here. We took our rottie that's 10 months old for her last vaccination today . No problem right ? WRONG PLACE ! A few minutes and several requests to go back to check on our Molly boo we heard her screaming so I barged back to find a tech with a dog catchers pole and choking our dog and trying to hold her down to the ground. I slipped it off and luckily my lady calmed our puppy down. I scolded all the staff there . How can u treat an animal this way. What is wrong with u people!!! read more

As a retired veterinary technician, I'm picky about who treats my pets. I've written about my house-call veterinarian, Dr. Debra Booman, on Yelp before. I prefer that my pets see her for routine preventive care. But because she is mobile, she doesn't perform more complex procedures that might require anesthesia. So when my kitty needed a dental procedure, Dr. Booman referred me to Dr. Ken Porte at Tri City Veterinary. Dr. Porte was wonderful and friendly. He speaks on your level, without patronizing, and I appreciated his bedside manor with my kitty, who was in a lot of discomfort. He was prompt to reply to my e-mails, I was scheduled for an appointment quickly and he communicated with me throughout my cat's procedure. The clinic is older, but it is very clean and it isn't stinky at all. (I am used to working in vet clinics, so I might be less sensitive than other patrons.) The office staff was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. My only criticism is that I have not yet received a call back from the clinic to check on how my cat is doing after surgery. I find that callbacks are important for continuity of patient care and they are a nice way to connect with clients. I will definitely keep Dr. Porte as one of my regular veterinarians. read more

Staff is friendly and welcoming. They've always been on top of the paperwork, reasonably quick to answer the phones and after a few times they recognize me and my dog when we walk in. I really feel like they care about my pets well-being and have taken great car of her. Both Dr. Porte and Dr. Pandi have seen my pup and both seem to display a passion for animals and extensive knowledge about keeping them healthy and happy. The building is a bit run down. Its def time for a few upgrades or a complete remodel but I'm not sure if the condition of the building should taken into account since my pup has received excellent care at their facility. read more

I am a have been with Tri-City Veterinary Hospital in Fremont for awhile and I've had it. The VET is great. The website is not functional and the call service is a nightmare. If you need to make an appointment set aside some time. You will wait 10-20 minutes on hold after which you will either be disconnected or sent to voicemail. You might get a person, people win the lottery too, it's never happened to me. Leave a voicemail, sometimes they respond in a day or so. If, like me, you have expensive health insurance for your vet that requires medical records to file a claim forget it. They won't give those to you at the office, you have to call the call service. When call you back they will be polite and cheerful and say they will email the records to you. Then nothing. I get other emails so I know they have my address. But I have tried 4 times to get medical records and they don't send those. Your insurance is effectively worthless. Do NOT choose this vet if you're looking. You will regret it. read more

Unfortunately, I had to move about a year ago & couldn't bring this vet clinic with me!!! I have been trying to find a real good vet for my kid down here but can't find one like Dr Porte & his wonderful workers! Meka's been with this office since she was a little puppy! After her first visit, they knew her name every single time we came in after. This is what makes them stand out 2 me... They would follow up every single time Meka had a visit. They would send her birthday cards and get well soon cards. They would give reminders for her next set of shots or refills. If something was wrong with Meka, I would call like the worried mother I am. Once, Meka ate something crazy & they asked questions and gave me advice over the phone... They're not all about robbing you blind for you money. They treated Meka like she was apart of the family. You can just tell they genuinely care about the well being of your pet.
