During Memorial Day weekend I wanted to stay right on the riverwalk to be close to the main attractions. This hotel was great and had plenty of space. When we checked in there was complimentary ice cream, champagne, water, and even cookies. The in room amenities include a mini bar, safe, HUGE bathroom. It can also get hot in Texas so it was nice to have a fan in order to quickly cool down. The pool at the top of the property is unique. We didn't use it much but apparently very few hotels have rooftop views. You can access the riverwalk from the hotel via the elevator and access tunnel next to Ostra. The only negative was there was only one elevator working due to renovations but otherwise a great experience. read more

My husband and I went in for a couples massage and my therapist had no idea what he was doing. I've never experienced something like this. My husbands, however, was great. When I spoke to the manager she was very kind and assuring about the feedback I offered. The therapist just didn't have the knowledge or understanding of the anatomy of the body and how to apply pressure with simple techniques. I communicated with him regarding the pressure and it changed for about 4 minutes and went back to just basic wiping movements. Booked a massage for myself and my husband. Booked a sister hotel nearby had it all planned out for our entire day away. Got up at 7Am to be at the massage 30 mins early. Only to arrive to locked doors and the manager coming out to cancel on us. She said we could split up our massage into two different time frames but that would ruin our entire day having to wait on each other. Could have at least called me to cancel to give me the heads up before I got up super early in the morning!! I went to this spa in an attempt to get a manicure. I have great nails naturally so it is generally a pleasant experience. The nail technician that helped me and my friend did a horrific job. She made almost all of my nails bleed. It was not busy there were no other guests there. So she was not in a hurry. When I made the reservation they did not advise me that the door was locked and you needed your hotel key to get in. Or that it is across the street from the omni. This spa is owned by Omni. I really expected more from the Omni. Please be warned that this spa not worthy of anyone's patronage. read more

This review is mostly for the spa, which is the nicest one in San Antonio. Our fabulous server Jose from Esquire told us to not even waste our time elsewhere, as this is the only one with a steam room, which is a must for a spa-day in my book. Hubert is a gem and was so nice and patient with my friend and I while we decided which service we wanted to book at the spa, and even gave us a little social media discount plus a free glass of Prosecco in exchange for an Instagram follow! The spa has a dry sauna, heavenly eucalyptus steam room that's not too hot (wish I could live in there), jacuzzi, relaxation room with cozy chairs and blankets, and lovely berries, nuts and light snacks to munch on. Also loved the little balcony overlooking the riverwalk, which is a great spot to have a cocktail and unwind overlooking the hustle and bustle. Jorge is fantastic if you like a strong massage. He reminded me of Guillermo from the Jimmy Kimmel show when I first saw him, but I wasn't laughing after he had the knots in my upper back begging for mercy! The pressure was just perfect, and he checked in often to make sure it wasn't too much, which I appreciate, as it can be awkward to speak up if it's too much or too little. Sadly I have to take off one star for the rooftop restaurant, which was quite a disappointment. The food was really good, but I was shocked when I got the $67 bill for a salad and a wrap with a bag of potato chips! That plus one cocktail and an $18 glass of wine, plus the 20% (!!!) service charge they tacked on left us stunned. It was good food but the cafe has all the ambiance of a hospital cafeteria, and I've never paid nearly $70 for counter service for two people in my entire life, not even at Disneyland, the mecca of overpriced fast-casual dining. The other thing was that the girl working there didn't bring us our (expensive) drinks until we'd already been waiting for ten minutes for our food, and brought them AFTER the food came out! So while it would have been lovely to enjoy that $18 glass of wine while we waited, she brought our food out and said, "Now I'll go get you your drinks." Uhhhh... For this less-than-stellar counter service, we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity. I regularly pay 20-30% gratuity, but not for counter service, and I don't like having it forced on me, especially when the service is lacking as it was in this case. We ended up at the Mokara Spa as part of a hotel/spa/dining package. If you're just interested in the service, then this might be a good bet for you. But if you want a really luxurious spa to hang out in for a couple of hours, I'd look elsewhere. Though the spa itself was very clean, it was incredibly small. There were only four showers, a very small hot tub, of course a steam and sauna. There was a small relaxation lounge as well. The massage I got was great. He was very attentive and I left very relaxed. But I also like taking a really long hot shower when I go to spas, and was disappointed to find that every shower stall at the Mokara had an air conditioning vent INSIDE the stall. So while the water might have been hot, the air was cold, making it pretty uncomfortable. Also, the shower heads were not the greatest, and water pressure was low. So as I said above, thumbs up on the massage, but the facilities themselves were not what I like in a spa. read more

My husband and I came here to the Mokara hotel since it's a 5 stars facility. He surprised me because I honestly didn't know where we were staying. When I first enter the spa the girl greeted me and gave me a locker, you also get a nice plush robe and slippers. There is a whirlpool , steam room and dry sauna. And also several showers. Everything looked really nice. There were certain aspect of the spa that I would say they neglected. Like the rim about the whirlpool was dirty. I could see dead bugs so it needs a little Cleaning. But I notice details Bc I go to high end spas all the time. I expect all details to be taken care of.....Especially when you pay $200-300 per treatment you expect the best experience. The spa attendant there wasn't the nicest person, she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. When I was in the relaxation room (very nice, stocked with little snacks and water) she didn't really wanted to answer my questions. And it was hard to find her when I needed her. Since you have to ask the attendant to make you tea. You can't make it yourself. The relaxation room is very calm, zen like. It has comfty chairs and lounges with blankets. I feel like I could probably fall in sleep in there after a nice massage! Treatments: I decided to go with 1) the Mokara signature massage that uses hot and cold stones. It was such a different experience! I totally recommend it for anyone who has back pain. I also got the 2) Mokara signature facial- and it was really relaxing as well. She seem very knowledgable about skin care. They use a German based skin care line that I never heard of before. It's called Bobara. The results were awesome. My face felt soft and refreshed. At the end I was in a rush to leave and wanted to make sure they gave me the correct pricing since it was "happy hour" pricing. But they messed up my bill anyway which caused some stress after a relaxing day at the spa. I also ordered lunch and it can only be eaten on their rooftop bar. I had to wear my rove up there to eat which to me was kinda weird. I ordered the ceviche and the Kale salad. Both delicious! But as always, it was quite expensive since mandatory delivery fee and service charge are always added at hotels. Overall, if I came to San Antonio again I would visit this spa. But only during the happy hour pricing. I'm giving this spa 4 stars Bc the manager heard about my issues and was very eager to resolve any problems I had with billing and also the issue with the attendant. Got a massage here on a whim - my boyfriend and I were staying over a Friday nearby and walked into the Mokara, lamenting that we hadn't gotten a spa treatment while staying there a couple months prior. We were also 3 margaritas in. We decided to book for the next morning and 8am was all they had; but it was absolutely worth the painful wake-up and expense. We actually admitted to our therapists we were a tiny bit hungover (I know, stupid) and they took great care of us. Gorgeous, clean, huge spa, and very friendly service. The couples massage was romantic and the pressure (Swedish massage) was perfect. Neither of us were sore but we felt insanely relaxed, free of any pain for days after. They placed us in a quiet and serene couples lounge after with some truffles for our anniversary and plenty of citrus water. Nobody rushed us through even though they were fully booked, and we felt so pampered. Mokara Spa got us addicted to couples massages but I almost wish we had worked our way up to the place. PURRRRRRR. I simply cannot say enough. Okay, really, I couldn't even speak after my spa day at Mokara. This was an all morning treatment (Texas Two Step Massage, Anti-Aging facial with collagen treatment, and Gel Pedicure) with one of my closest friends as a graduation gift from her. We called it Divas and Dives Day, which I will explain later. The service was exactly as you would expect from a high end spa, but there were little nuances thrown on top. My facialist gave me arm/hand massage, and threw in something on top of my facial as a gift. My pedicurist served our lunch (which we pre-ordered and added Dos XX off the menu) while we got our toes did, and as I was walking out I bought a top in the boutique and found it was half off! It was Christmas in March, I tell you! The next step in our day was to have a car drive us to all of our favorite dive bars all over town (whew, those reviews are next). SURPRISE! My buddy, Kent, at Elegant Limo had upgraded us to one of his squeaky new Lincoln limos! You can imagine what it was like showing up at all the dives in a limo. DIVE and DIVA are only one letter off, y'know. TIP: Have your lunch there, include the tip (20%) before you go in, so you can relax. And of course, you need to add dressed Dos XX! read more

TREAT YO SELF!!! Seriously the best spa I've been to... EVER! So when I lived in Fort Worth, I used to go to the Mokara there all the time! I was so sad when I moved but my masseuse there told me they had a Mokara in San Antonio. SCORE!!! I've tried other spa's, Woodhouse (too loud and crowded), big chain hotel spa's (felt disconnected and there would always be at least one or two amenities not working), and even individually owned spa's (never had the amenities that I liked). Of course Mokara has all the usual amenities as most all spa's do like slippers, robes, lounge area w/ spa water, sauna, etc. but Mokara surpasses all the other places for so many reasons. Here's why: 1. They never over book. Some places I guess book appointments on top of one another, so when you are waiting in the lounge it's not super loud and you have other ladies talking over your thoughts. When I go to spa's I like to just zone out and don't want to overhear what other people are talking about. You never have to wait to use an amenity or shower room or changing room or anything at Mokara. So many times have I been the only ones using the sauna or vanity area and I usually go on weekends too!! 2. If you decide to valet, the spa is able to call down to valet services and have them pull up your car. By the time you check out of the spa... your car is right there waiting for you! 3. They have the best amenities... and they are ALWAYS available and working! Wet (aromatherapy) and dry sauana's, jacuzzi, showers with aromatherapy bath products, spa water, tea, snacks like dried fruit, and nuts. And this last time I was there... they had coconut agua fesca!!! It was AMAZING! I had like 4 glasses!!! 4. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Every person I encountered there was so nice. Even after my third agua fesca, they offered me to take some to-go! When I was looking in their spa shop, they even pointed out their sale section to show me their more reasonably priced shop items. They never make me feel like I have to leave while at other places I always feel like there is this sense of urgency to leave after I've had my massage. 5. They support local charities. When I moved here I found out from my workplace that Mokara actually makes yearly donations to the charity that we support! They do this every year! It's so great to hear that they give back! Best spa in San Antonio by far, and best we have been to outside of Las Vegas. The facilities are spotless and the staff are super professional and courteous. Another reviewer was complaining about the size of the men's facilities - but the women's are HUGE. Sauna, steam room, around 8 showers, large whirlpool (at least 10ft x10ft, probably more). The massage under the vichy shower is amazing, as is the Rose facial for people with Rosacea. The therapists are all stellar - professional, knowledgeable, friendly. In addition to the separate male and female lounge/relaxation rooms, there is a small co-ed area near the treatment rooms that is great for couples. The staff all congratulated us on our anniversary and kept saying what a good looking couple we were (flattery, I'm sure, but it still felt good). They brought us a sparkling juice drink to celebrate and tended to our every need. Definitely set aside time to come here and really enjoy the experience. read more

Fabulous! My hubby surprised me with 2 days full of spa services for our anniversary, so I got to experience the gamut at Mokara. First of all, the staff: from the moment you walk through the door, they're attentive, friendly (greeting you by name every step of the way) and anticipate your needs before you're able to ask for anything. The facilities are beautiful, spotless and serene... my favorite place being the clothing optional whirlpool--in fact, the whole place is clothing optional. My massuers were deftly talented, professional and friendly. In fact, after mentioning a "kink" in my neck the first day at Mokara to the massuer, he worked it out (amazingly well) and made sure to give me several samples of healing and heating salves and ointments to boot. Let's start with the booking process...I can't remember who I spoke with but she was so nice. She was patient with me as I ask a lot of questions. I was booking this for my man and myself. I don't know anything about getting a massage. She helped me decide which one to get. This place is a valet only parking...but it's free with a spa treatment Which is nice since it's on the Riverwalk (gorgeous views BTW). So we arrive early morning appointments and every one is friendly and cheerful. We are taken upstairs to the spa area. It's separated men's and women's sides. Clothing optional. The steam room and whirlpool are amazing. Everything smells so good. The robes are the best robes I've ever used. The relaxation room is so relaxing. I texted my man and told him I was never leaving. The sauna room is your basic sauna. There is fruit infused water and water bottles every where. Cold compresses everywhere as well. The shower room has aromatherapy soaps and shampoos and it's a beautiful shower. Top notch. Has every amenity you may need for showering and post shower minus anti-aging cream (natch). I waited like two minutes for my masseuse to come get me. The pressure was amazing. I had mentioned I had allergies and she sprayed the head rest thing with eucalyptus to help. It was amazing. The room was dark and perfect. Fruit infused water and berries were offered. They tasted perfect. Marissa did both of our massages. She was amazing. I'd book her again. She was so nice and quiet. The amenities are available to you all day for the entire day if you want when you book. The reception area has all the lotions used at the spa. There is a 20% gratuity automatically put on the bill but I was told I could change it if I wanted to add or take away from. Valet services are fast and friendly. We had our car as soon as we walked out. The valet ticket is validated by the spa so make sure you get that done. Also you just pull up and the valet comes out to you. I scheduled a massage at Mokara Spa during a bachelorette weekend when peer pressure got the best of me. I ended up spending $145 (!) for a 1-hour massage. On the plus side, the atmosphere was very welcoming. The sauna, jacuzzi, and relaxation room with fruit and tea were awesome and truly relaxing. I could stay there all day! Plus, the coconut water in the lobby made me feel a little bit better about my empty wallet. Pros: 1. Location! The spa was located within walking distance of my hotel and from the riverwalk. 2. Unlimited coconut water refills. 3. Comfy, lush bathrobes. 4. Super nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Cons: 1. Location! The downtown location meant that I frequently heard Drake blasting from the multitude of cars as well as motorcycles zooming down the street. I don't want to hear this or the weirdly distracting music they had playing in the massage room. 2. My masseuse, Sharon, cut my massage short! My massage was scheduled at 6 PM, she started 5 minutes later, and then she ended at 6:50 PM. All of this according to the same clock. I paid $145 for a full 60-minute massage, not 45 minutes. 3. Sharon also could have been more attentive. Unlike other spas I've been to, there were no exotic oils or scents. I was PISSED when I heard my friends raving about their scalp massages and the "best" massages of their lives. Sharon barely touched my neck, let alone my scalp! I felt like the whole massage was her just rubbing lotion on my body, even when I asked her to add more pressure (twice). Not sure if the masseuse was afraid her hands would get stuck in my natural fro (my hair doesn't bite, I swear!), or if she was in a rush, or if the scalp massage was just an extra thing both of my friends just happened to have. Overall, my massage was WACK, plain and simple. 4. The tip was already included in the final price (Is this a thing??). I felt like the receptionist totally called me out in front of my friends when I didn't want to give my masseuse the full tip. I wouldn't have a problem with the tip if I enjoyed the massage, but I can't say that I did. Overall, I can confidently say that I've received better massages for much, MUCH less! read more

this is my second attempt to review this hotel. it looks like my last write up was deleted. I stayed here during the final four weekend. I bought it through expedia. Unfortunately, due to a death in the family I had to leave two days early. I asked for a credit back when I checked out and was told to call expedia. expedia then told me its up to the hotel. they called them and Manager Thomas said NO to any refund. I will never buy a hotel on expedia again they make you prepay and don't clearly tell you its non refundable. How can this hotel have no compassion? I paid 1k a night and I am sure they got the hotel rebooked so they made double on the room. They should have atleast offered me some kind of credit. This hotel clearly only cares about money and not customer service. Very disappointing. read more

I cannot speak for the actual spa itself, I have not been here. However, I did attempt to purchase a gift certificate for a family member. First off, for such a high class spa there is zero online presence, which means the gift certificate I attempted to purchase could not be done online. OK, no problem. Not every company has to do online payments (although I have to admit it's a HUGE flag for me). So I call thinking I can simply give them my credit card info over the phone. NOT SO FAST! That's "not our policy" I was told. OK, what's the policy? I fill out a form that they can fax to me or email. Since I don't live in the 90s I don't own a fax machine. So I'm told they can email it to me and I can simply fill that out and email them back with my credit card information written on the file that I will need to attach back to them. Seriously?? I asked the person if they knew that email is not a secure way to transfer sensitive information ESPECIALLY credit card information. She didn't care. Let me know (now in a VERY condescending matter) that it was their policy. I told her it's my policy not to put passwords or credit card information in an email. Again, she let's me know that's the only way I can buy a gift card in a very condescending matter. I guess this spa is a big deal and they can be jerks to anyone they choose. It shouldn't be this hard to give someone a gift certificate EVER. I should not have to deal with some employee treating me like a moron for questioning their "policy". I'll give my money elsewhere. Garrett provided a very excellent swedish massage during my visit. He was gentle and attentive. Two things I appreciated since I had a very bad headache. I enjoyed my treatment and the fact that I was able to use the facilities as part of my visit. The spa was such a nice amenity and it made me wish that I was staying here instead of the Hyatt. The spa and wet sauna were my favorites. Also the warm neck roll which was provided was a very nice touch. Ran into Mokara this morning before work to get the remnants of my last acrylic set removed. Not only does the spa open at 8am (CONVENIENT), but Ashley E was so amazing! I'm no morning person, but her energy and attitude really pepped me up- and the fact that I was the only one there (did I mention it was WAY early?) made for great chit chat atmosphere. I'm planning to go back for a gel mani by her after a few weeks, and will continue to recommend this spot to my guests (I manage a restaurant on the Riverwalk) based on this really great experience. This is a beautiful spa with a spotless interior, although the facility is really quite small. The sauna is plenty hot and the steam room... well, steamy. My therapist Paul, however, is top-grade. My husband also enjoyed his massage by Brandy. Also, my husband is a paraplegic, and the facilities were perfectly wheelchair accessible and the staff was very accommodating! I absolutely have nothing but positive things to say about this spa. The staff is all so friendly and hospitable. The therapist both massage and facial were amazing. I love the products. I highly recommend the Swedish massage with aromatherapy add on of arnica. The signature facial was also perfect. The relaxation rooms are so comfortable and the hot tub and steam room were also great. There is also a roof top lunch spot you can eat at in your robes which is convenient and it had great food as well. My husband and I both loved this place. We will definitly return. read more

I was visiting San Antonio and thought this spa was fantastic. It walking distance from anything on the riverwalk, their coconut milk and tea was great, the snacks in the spa were great and everyone was very very nice to me. The spa was wonderful, nice, clean, and my massage was amazing. The river walk foot massage was great and my therapist was very very good. I'm from Chicago and this rivaled any spa in the Chicago area. This is not a cheap spa - you get what you pay for. I paid about $400 for 2.5 hours of services - but it was worth it and you get to use the sauna and steam room. I thought that this was an overall fabulous experience. read more
