This is my favorite Spa! Top notch service, fantastic amenities, outstanding customer service and located in a beautiful hotel. Great experience. Having just moved to San Antonio from NYC, my spa expectations were pretty high, but Mokara definitely met them! Free valet parking! The checkin process was very smooth and they have delicious coconut drink to welcome you. The facilities are clean and very relaxing; whirlpool, sauna and steam room, and a relaxation room with nuts and tea. My massage was awesome and my facial was great! The women's lounge had everything you would need to shower and get ready; from razors to curling iron. Everyone was accommodating and friendly. An absolute treat to yourself!!! Enjoyed a massage/mani/pedi and a day at the spa. They were amazing! The best massage ever! Enjoyed the extra amenities at the spa to relax in (hot tub, sauna). It was just nice to have a personal day of pampering!!! The day started with coconut milk in the lobby- a dip in the hot tub to relax before an amazing massage! We enjoyed a roof top lunch in the warm sun then an amazing room of chatter for the mani/pedi. We ended the day and sat in the sauna where we found endless orange or cucumber water. We enjoyed a mother/daughter day and couldn't ask for another thing. The valet parking just ended our peaceful day of rest! We will surely do this again! I tried to other spas in the area but in my opinion they are not good for the price, compared to NYC which has plenty of options. However, Mokara is super! my wife and myself absolutely love going to the spa or even getting a simple massage. We have been to many places and have been to dozens of destinations in the carribean and myself in other countries and have gotten massages in every place we have gone to. well to shorten it up... I booked this place for my wife as a couples massage and spa day for her birthday. well at least that's what I booked. when we arrived I mentioned it at least 4 times and was confirmed that was what we were getting. well of course it wasn't since they put my wife in a room by her self and started her massage before they came and got me. once I was taken to my single room I told my masseuse which is now the 5th time it was supposed to be a couples massage she walked me back to the men's side while she finds out what happened. 5 minutes later she came back and told me in order for that to work they would have to interrupt my wife's session and get a room ready for us which would off set our times. at that moment it was my wife's present and I wasn't about to make it worse. Went on with the massage and facial and if course got shorted on it. note to all who go here. wear a watch because they will take advantage of you otherwise and find out who your masseuse and facial people are. I had one for both as my wife had 2 separate. when I was done I was walked to the couples retreat area to wait for my wife ... a place we should have been before we started but it didn't go that way. 10 min later my wife comes out and is asking why we didn't have the couples massage...thanks mokara for ruining my present to my wife. thank you mokara for not making it right. thank you mokara for charging us a hefty bill with 20 percent gratuity already added to it and not asking why we were ready to leave as soon as we did. I would hope management sees this message because I would love to be contacted on this. for what you charge for your service ...one would hope you get what you pay for....or even look at what services the customer is paying for or asking of and not letting the masseuse do what they want instead. read more

My husband criticizes me for never treating myself. I spent a long day on a series of very indirect flights to San Antonio for a long, lonely conference. Decided to treat myself, and what a treat! Brent gave me the best massage I have ever received, and I've been to many of the best spas in the world. The deep tissue massage was perfect, and perfectly tailored to what I had requested on the quick sheet I filled out in the reception area. I wish I had blocked out more time so I could have enjoyed the rest of the spa amenities. I don't get all excited about spas in general, but this one was so clean, relaxing and inviting. NEVER AGAIN We had the theoretical pleasure of having two paid nights and dinner as a thank you for work that my firm had done for some clients; when we arrived all was in order including the reservations for dinner, The staff on Sunday asked if we would like the room cleaned by a certain time and we said yes as we were leaving and would be back later, the staff offered to get it cleaned around 9 a.m., when we returned some 5 hrs. later nothing had been touched except for removing the morning breakfast tray AND THE GREAT SURPRISE CAME WHEN i LOOKED AT MY BILL, NOT ONLY DID THEY CHARGE MY CLIENT, EVERY DAMN CHARGE WE INCURRED (ROOM FOR TWO NIGHTS AND THAT DINNER) ARE ON MY CREDIT CARD!! I EVEN GAVE THEM THE RESERVATION NUMBER FROM MY CLIENT AND THEY WOULD NOT REMOVE THE CHARGES, We stay at several hotels on our trips to SA and this will never again be one. Gary J. This is the best spa I have ever been to. The accommodations are truly luxurious and relaxing. It never seems crowded when I go which is also a plus. The changing room/showering amenities are beautiful, and the waiting room has the perfect ambiance to get you relaxed for your service. I have done massages, facials, and a body scrub and all of the treatments are top of the line. I only thing I did not like was the aesthetician trying to push their products on me while they were doing my facial -- I am there to relax, not be advertised to. However, my manicure didn't even last 24 hours, and it was with the Vinylux polish that is designed to last 7 days. My husband booked couples services here as a surprise for me for our anniversary. We had lunch on the rooftop and couples massages and pedicures. Our experience all around was wonderful. I have no idea what he paid, so I can't comment on value for the money. The spa is incredibly luxurious, relaxing, and beautiful. The staff is over the top friendly and accommodating. They offer orange infused water throughout your stay. You have access all day to their eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, and whirlpool. It is clothing optional, so if you are shy don't forget to bring a swimsuit if you want to get in the whirlpool. I used towels when I went into the steam room. The robes they give you are plush. All of our services were wonderful, although in discussing our massages afterward my husband seemed to get a better one than me lol. I still enjoyed mine. The rooftop lunch was delicious and each of us were served portions that could have fed at least 2 people. Not your typical spa lunch. Try the chia seed smoothie. They gave us complimentary fruit and champagne in the couples room to celebrate our anniversary I would absolutely go back on our next trip. It is a short walk from the Westin where we stayed. Amazing. The best service I have received anywhere. We were treated like royalty. We went on a 2 day getaway during the week, while visiting from Destin, Florida. I bought a few package deals here that we're so amazing. We had wine service, margaritas, massages and had a 5 course meal at the restaurant with wine tasting. We had an amazing breakfast brought to our room. Lunch by the hot tub with a great view. Every staff member in the hotel went out of their way to make out experience memorable. The food was absolutely amazing and the front desk was absolutely amazing. Since we were there during the weekdays we took advantage of how few people were along the riverwalk and ended our night with a romantic short walk around the riverwalk. You can enter the restaurant through the hotel and the riverwalk from the restaurant. I recommend this spa to anyone looking for a awesome, peaceful, or romantic experience. Went there as a birthday gift from my husband..for a spa day relaxation.massage, pedicure..lunch the works. On arrival were greeted immediatey and taken in to the spa area where we were immediately given a tour of the facilties..the one thing. that was a little suprising.when she opened the door to the relaxation room while she was loudly giving the tour....this interrupted the ladies that were trying to relax..funny..i thought the relaxation room was to relax..be quiet...between services. okay next...my friend and i checked out the other amenites the steam rooms, hot tub and such..but then decided to proceed to the relaxation room to have some hot tea and RELAX.....well when we sat down..the room was ...plainly trashed..im not sure how quickly they come in to straighten up..but there were left over wet rag..cucumber slices..left over cups..towels...and wet spots on chairs where other patrons were before...I was very careful on where I sat....needless to say I was in shock. We got our tea order pretty quick..and as I was trying to RELAX. A bunch of gossipy hens came in..and talked and talked and talked and talked and talked..and as i thought.. a relaxation room is a room to chill, to relax...not the case with these tourists..or clueless individuals who obviously have never been in a spa environment before....(believe me when I say this i'm not snob by no means..but these ladies had no class at all) I got a headache..from the on and on gossip from these hens.. well after we waited which seemed like an eternity for our first service the massage..from my calculations we were late...we were greeted quickly..sent into the room and given our massages....just like another individual who commented about the massage not being a full hour..mine was definitely not a full hour...not complete at all..I asked for a full massage...didn't get it...was rushed..was not an hour. no exotic oils..no choice of essential scents to be in the air.....etc....felt like cattle being rushed into one room into another.... okay..next..we were then sent into another relaxation area...the couples area..because I did make a huge complaint about the sorority house which was the relaxation room before.....so they put me and my friend in the couples relaxation room..which was quiet .and actually much better. We were only their about 5 minutes..and then whisked off to our pedicures..now..the 2 stars i'm giving..is actually for the ladies that did our pedi's..awesome girls.....they get the stars..but the spa or anyone else in that damn place doesn't.. Oh yes..another thing..the lunch..omg!! we ate on the terrace..before our services.....as we proceeded to eat..half way through my friends meal..she found a soaked up fly in her dressing on her salad......i thought she was gonna puke in the pool!!!! i walked down to the attendant to let him know this....we had to wait another 20 minutes for another replacement lunch for us...hence the reason why I think we were rushed on everything..i think that botched up lunch..made us late for everything else..hence the reason..the rushed massage...etc.. I have been to plenty of spas.................btw...................all Four Seasons.........by far Four Seasons are the best in Spa Treatments..Scottsdale, San Jose, Santa Barbara..Austin, Jackson Hole etc.., the ...Mokara..is no Four Seasons..and...i even did a quick stint over at La Cantera one day....and heck they were even better this place.. For a visiting tourist it would be fine for someone that is clueless about spas...but for the lady and gentleman that wants top of the line treatment and an exquisite environment..you will never find it here at the San Antonio Mokara..... My mom and I had a spa day for my bday on April 7th . It was amazing ! Especially the eucalyptus room. My allergies were really bad for the past week and this really helped . I called the spa to let them know we were going to be late, they said it would cut into my service time , which was fine by me and I thought I was only going to be 5-10 mins late. However it turned into 30 mins because the GPS was telling us to go to The Menger not the Mokara. We called the hotel for directions but the girl on the phone was having a hard time trying to explain to us where to go ,bless her heart. I arrived and I was told they were unable to do my facial because she was setting up for the next one. I was told it would take almost an hour so if she was already set up for mine why couldn't she just do an express facial for 30 mins? She still refused. So my mom asked for the manager and she really didn't want to have to do that . I was already going to leave her a big tip for taking me 30 mins later . But I think she was the only one working that day, which is understandable as to her refusal to do the hour facial . But I didn't expect her to outright refuse to do a really quick one. She said yes after the manager got involved. I apologized to her repeatedly and I thanked her so much for doing the express facial . It really helped my blemishes and made my skin feel so soft. Another issue was when my mom was waiting on me to finish my facial so we could go into the eucalyptus room afterward . She was asked by a woman if she had an appointment with a slight attitude in her voice . My mom replied yes she did and the woman asked for her name. She already checked in. So I don't know why she was asking. I don't if people come in there often without appointments , but that is what the woman was insinuating . Then a fellow coworker , (a very nice young man ) came to my mother's defense and told the lady that she was checked in and everything was fine. We came here to relax. We didn't come here so my mom could be harassed with suspicion as to why she was there. He proceeded to explain that she was waiting on me and that we were celebrating my bday. If you don't like your job you should quit or show up to work with at least an appearance of having a pleasant attitude. Most of the staff was very friendly and professional. AMMAAZZINNGG!! I see why Mokara in San Antonio was named one of the best in Texas! I surprised my boyfriend with a 50 min couples massage and a pedicure Easter weekend(Good Friday) April 18th 2014. We were celebrating his 30 years of service in the Army! It was his first professional massage ever and he LOVED it and so did I! The staff was awesome... they made us feel very welcome they even served us a Mimosa drink while getting a pedicure. The atmosphere was so relaxing we stayed for at least 3 hours relaxing and enjoying all the spa rooms from the whirlpool, steam room, sauna, and more. The coconut was great. My friend and I spent a weekend at the hotel and spa in November. We booked three treatments each and had a nice time. My facial and massage were good and my friend said her massage was one of the best she'd ever had. However, I had a truly dismal pedicure. However, that is not what made me rate the facility poorly. After my pedicure polish practically disappeared the day after I had it, I went to the salon seeking a fix. I was told I could repair the polish myself, which was fine, I hadn't made an appointment for a redo. However, no apologies were made and I was told it was essentially my fault-how it would be, I'm not sure, I didn't put on shoes and walk around with wet toes etc. Again, not a big deal, but disappointing. What was a bid deal and makes me not want to ever go back was the fact I wrote a note explaining this and didn't even get a response from the spa manager. I took myself and my 11 year old Daughter for Pedi. No extras, just a Pedi. The women who took us back never introduced themselves. They told us to pick our polish, and then while still standing by the polish put the neck warmers on us. After seated they still never introduced themselves, never said much at all. My Daughter received a fairly good Pedicure, nothing that a strip mall couldn't have given her. The water in the foot bath became very cold, my cuticles were not trimmed, my heels were cracked and dry. She never used a pumice, or any callous remover just used a finger nail file. One toenail she trimmed so short it bled. No essential oils, nothing. It was a 30.00 Strip Mall Pedi. At the register is when I went into shock. 204.00 yes you read that correctly. 2 basic Pedicures, one was on an 11 yr old. She explained the gratuity was included. How about letting me decide what the service was worth as far as the tip goes? I wore flip flops out of the SPA. Let my toes dry as I always do, and by that night the paint was chipped off. Crazy.
