Everyone here is so friendly & informative. I took a class that was donation only because it was a new teacher who just finished her training. It was a class geared towards hikers. What a fantastic idea. We talked about local places to hike & she gave pointers about what muscles we engage while hiking. I loved the class & can't wait to attend more. read more

There are classes for all levels and tenants of yoga, and Moksha offers numerous workshops Note that Ashtanga Yoga is in an advanced class, rather rigorous with unfamiliar chants and cues to me, and I've practiced yoga daily for 10 years, Daren, owner and seasoned instructor, leads class with yoga teachings and philosophies, all with a humorous tinge. One of my friends cancelled on our dinner plans tonight. Sucks, right? Normally, I'd be pretty bummed. BUT, it's Thursday, and that means Sylvia's teaching a class tonight at Moksha. And I couldn't be more excited. Over the past 4 months, Moksha has become my bestie. But seriously. We hang out about 2-3 nights a week, she only lives about 10 minutes away, always has something going on, and in this case, is the perfect backup to a postponed hangout. But for real, Moksha has completely changed my yoga practice. I used to practice off and on for the past 3 years, but never consistently and I never spent time perfecting my yoga poses and form. However, the instructors at Moksha have helped me bring out my inner yogi (special shoutout to Sylvia and Jessica W.). They have helped me develop and deepen my practice, and now I'm practically addicted. Sylvia and Jessica's classes are my absolute favorite, so much so that I usually try to schedule the rest of my plans around them. I love the variety of classes at Moksha, and it's the perfect blend of breathing and movement, with an emphasis of connecting with inner being. I've been to all three Moksha studios (West Bucktown, Riverwest, and Lakeview) and out of all of them, this one is my favorite. I love the layout, the ambiance (yes, even with the sound of the train going by in the background), and the studio itself - it's so peaceful and calming. The studio is clean and they have everything that you need - mats (no rental charge!), blocks, bolsters, and more. The class size varies on the time of day and instructor, but I've never felt like it was overly full. But if there comes a time when I can't attend Sylvia and Jessica's classes because it's too full, I'm totally gonna blame my own review... read more

My only critique of Moksha Yoga Center is that it is not located closer to where I live, so I don't get to Yoga class as often as I should (but that problem is entirely on me). Moksha Yoga consistently offers a great variety of classes at all experience levels and I have always had great yoga instructors. Each class is 90 minutes long, but the time flies by so quickly you would swear you were only there for 40 minutes. The instructors are very helpful and attentive to what your needs are coming to yoga. Moksha Yoga Center intentionally creates a very peaceful space (quiet, no big windows, no on-lookers form outside) for you to focus and practice your yoga. I highly recommend them to anyone, whether first-timers or seasoned yogis. I recommend that you visit their website before attending a class. I'm so very happy Moksha opened a new studio in my neighborhood. I liked the Carpenter location, but could never find a class that fit my schedule. The after work classes were either too early or too late. This new studio, however, has a totally Renee-friendly (as I'm sure they planned it...) schedule. Happiness! So, I checked out a Tantric Vinyasa class last night, which I really enjoyed. The new studio feels brand spanking new with 2 nice changing rooms and showers and larger bathrooms in the hallway. I didn't get a chance to check out the other studio, but the one I was in was fairly small, still nice though. Class size was really small, but it was nice to get individual adjustments. I'm sure in a few weeks, I'll be scrounging for mat space. There were a few small glitches with the buzzer downstairs not working, but I'm sure that won't be a problem for long. The sound of the train going by during savasana was a little distracting, but I guess that's what yoga's all about...tuning out those distractions. read more

This is my favorite Yoga studio in Chicago. I went to the Logan Square location, but there are three to choose from. A ton of class times are offered, so I was usually able to get to three per week after work, and one or two on the weekend (depending how strong I was feeling). Of course, instruction style and therefore class flow varies by teacher, but I have yet to find any instructors I like better, and I tried out three different studios in Chicago, and now have tested two in New York. Marcelyn Cole is my favorite favorite. For me, she blended the perfect amount of meditation and self reflection with pose variety and intensity options. She tends to match class with the season, so, for example, in the Spring we did a lot of twists to detoxify from the winter. If you aren't into the spiritual side of yoga, you can probably tune her out (though I wouldn't recommend it), and still get a great body workout. I do yoga for body and soul, so her style was perfect for me. All the classes I went to at Moksha were very accessible and the people are super friendly. They hold workshops and such, too, but I, unfortunately, never made it to those. Moksha's the real deal. I recommend it for anyone open to practicing yoga. read more

The teacher training program here is second to none, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a comprehensive and well-rounded education in the ancient craft of yoga. I love Moksha Yoga Bucktown. The studio is welcoming, the teachers are experienced and helpful, the classes are a good workout and fun. I bought a groupon here for 5 classes and went with friends, then I ended up purchasing a 10 class pass. I really love Lance's classes. The Friday evening vinyasa level 1-2 class is a great way to start off the weekend. They always have lots of programs and send emails so you can stay in the loop. This is somewhere I will buy 10 class passes to whenever I need an extra awesome dose of yoga in my life. Also, the class passes need to be used in 90 days, which really motivates you to go. I called the office and they will be nice and extend your class pass if you need. (at least they did for me and I was really grateful). I completed my 200hr teacher training at Moksha Yoga Center and am currently pursuing my 500hr certification there as well. Owner, Daren Friesen is a true teacher's teacher and is always surprising me by sharing more and more knowledge about this practice and the art of sharing it with others. Aside from teacher trainings, Moksha brings some of the best teachers to the studio from across the country offering the Moksha community a wide variety of in depth workshops to choose from year round. As a practitioner, I expect that Moksha resident teachers will be impeccably trained, articulate, creative and caring. And they are. I may sound biased because I've done so many trainings at Moksha, but I assure you that I would not keep coming back and I would not be singing its praises if Moksha did not live up to expectations. I found this yoga center with a google search for yoga in my area. Went there and signed up for a 5 class package. Second visit had about 20 people in a room that accommodates 15. Next 2 attempted visits were not completed because there was no parking within 4 blocks, construction all around. When I did get back there I was told my package had expired, this was not explained when I registered. I was told I could talk to Don (think they said Don) but he wasn't there. The attitude of the lady behind the desk was not spiritually inviting. Not a welcoming place for me. read more

I am a big fan of Moksha at Riverwest and recently started going to other sister locations to take advantage of all the classes available. First of all if you buy a package at Moksha, you can go to all three locations. With the big schedule and variety of classes, there'a always something that fits my need. The space at Logan Sqaure is beautifulm bright and airy. I love the Sunday morning class there. All the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and comes around to do adjustments and explain each pose very well. read more

My first impression when walking in here was a mish mash of coats and shoes everywhere,tie die ,patchouli ,dreadlocks ,dirty floors and a bit of tude ,The teacher who was said to have the class would never show uo and instead you would get a sub every time.No consistency .The vibe is way off here ,not a speck of authenticity ,beauty ,no magic here ,but they did have fuzz and hairs on the floor maybe to keep you dirty but warm during savasanah. read more

The studio's staff are very friendly which was awesome to see from the start! I attended a writing/yoga event and I was actually the only student in it! The instructor still held class which I appreciated so much because I drove 40 minutes for the class. She personalized it with me since she could, and she was super nice and smiley. The class was a vinyasa class, and it was really enjoyable! It was a 2 hour class where a little less than half was spent writing. I've never done anything like it :). They also sold special incense which I had been wanting, so that was exciting. All in all, great studio and staff! read more

What an interesting experience tonight hitting up one of my favorite studios in Bucktown, Chicago. I had not looked too closely at the class when I signed up. I was having a wonderful experience, my teacher, Danielle, was amazing, both nurturing and vigorous at the same time, just what I like, focused on both alignment and philosophy. She set the stage and environment flawlessly and offered great hands on assists. About half way through, I was appreciating being the only white woman in the group and feeling wonderful about the diversity in the room. When I got home I realized the class title was "Hatha for people of Color". I would have never known. So proud of the way the class was handled and that it was totally cool for me to be there/us to all practice together in such a beautiful space. xoxo Highly recommended. read more

I love love love Moksha. I originally came here with a groupon, and after two classes I was hooked. I've now been coming here twice a week for 4 years. The teachers are knowledgeable, patient, and facilitate each class with passion. The evening and weekend class times are great for my work schedule, and there is a nice variety of classes offered. Whether you are looking for a relaxing, slow class, or one that's going to give you a workout, they have it all. Very happy to have found this studio and to now call it my yoga home. read more

Ok so I'm in love with this studio. If I could drive the hour and 15 minutes to go every day to moksha I would. This is my favorite location. This place is horrible!! I had a membership and while the classes and teachers were great, since I've cancelled my membership I've continued to be charged. There has been little to no communication from the center to reverse the charges and prevent this from happening again. There's no communication through the organization or sense of urgency. Just took a prenatal yoga class there and thought Emily was great! I had been looking for a prenatal class in the neighborhood and there aren't many options, but I need to look no further...there were about 12 women there of all stages of pregnancy and she offered many options for adjustments and related the practice specifically to pregnant bodies and what they need and are capable of. I highly recommend this class and this studio. I'd love to see another class on the schedule at this location or the River West studio! (perhaps on the weekends??) read more

i just went to blanca's vinyasa class and loved it. seriously one of the better yoga classes i've ever been to. and my body is feeling it today. i guess i was out of shape! she pushed us to do better, but not in an unsafe or picky way. i really got a lot out of each pose and tried things i never have before. blanca was really comfortable and professional. she seemed to be a seasoned yoga teacher, which you can't always find especially at new studios. the studio itself is pretty nice and clean and the receptionist and manager were friendly. for a walk in class, it's $17 but they have all sorts of packages that are a better deal. if you live in or around logan square/bucktown/wicker park, this is one of the best options i've found for yoga. read more

Moksha is as good as it gets with Yoga in Chicago. I've been to many different studios all over the city and this is definitely one community you want to be apart of. There is a variety of classes, very knowledgeable teachers, and a wonderful clean space to practice your stillness. Hands on adjustment is what I long for in each class, connecting with the teacher as well as myself on a deeper level. Buyer beware! Moksha is after your money. I signed up for a $75 package and used two classes and then took a break. After going to a recent class they made me pay $18 after class because the package had expired. I think it is ridiculous to sell yoga packages that expire. What happened to the rest of my $75 dollars? I e-mailed the manager and her response was to sign up for more classes. No thank you. I am going to Tula Yoga. I usually go to corepower yoga. But that they are quite expensive so decided to check out a new studio. I went to bucktown location 3 times in one week. In that week the floor had not been cleaned a single time. There were visible piles of sand like dirt and black splotches of I don't know what. I left 3rd class 30 min early cause couldn't take rolling around in that dirt any longer and quickly washed my arms and legs in the bathroom sink. I know the floors have not been cleaned cause the same piles of dirt that I saw during class on Monday were still in the same spots the 3rd class on Friday. People drop their sweat on the floor, people have toenail fungus, it's disgusting that they don't take cleanliness seriously. Update: since writing this review I've been to River West location and had 2 teachers, one of which was the owner. The vigorous 2-3 class that the female teaches was indeed advanced and I appreciated that. Floors are clean. The Mindful flow 2-3 class, although excellently taught, did not really work me out much. We spent a good 25 minutes talking. Which was super interesting but leaves little time left for exercising. Once we started again, it was taught as a level 1 beginner class, even though it's labeled a 2-3 class. I need to know that what the class is labeled is actually what I am going to experience. Or just label everything beginner. 2nd. I really didn't like the style of teaching. There was no difference from a 1 beginning class to a 3 advanced class. Beginners need every move clearly explained but advanced people do not. It got extremely frustrating when the teacher, who also happens to be the manager, was teaching a vigorous 2-3 class but took inordinate amount of time to explain every little detail of each move. In order to get in all her talking she kept the students in the postures WAY too long causing wrist, knee and ankle pain. And it wasn't vigorous! If you call a class vigorous 2-3 level and teach it like a basic beginner class, explaining every little detail like we are newbies what's the point? Don't call a class advanced vigorous when neither are true. Was not vigorous at all. no.difference between advanced and beginner classes..Won't be going back. 3rd,.the owner claims on his website that Moksha is the largest yoga studio in the Midwest. I literally nearly fell out of my chair laughing! WOW.....just WOW..What balls this guy has. I can name 5 studios off the top of my head that have more than 3 locations. (which is all that Moksha has) corepower yoga being at the top of that list with over 30 studios in Chicago alone and hundreds across every state. This place is good for people who have never done yoga and are still in the beginning stages. Nothing wrong with that but any serious yogi will not deepen their practice here and may well catch a decent case of foot fungus. read more
