In fact the entire staff is helpful and will go out of their way to help you with your shopping needs. They also do a really good job with their online portal and curbside order delivery. If they do not find the item you ordered, they will patiently help you to find the right replacement. Just an advice to the staff to keep their masks on as we noticed some staff/ cashier not doing so.

Prices beat other local grocers. Most impressive is a hot-grill for sandwiches and burgers - $2.99 for burger with condiments - lettuce, tomato, etc, and fries compared to an average $10 - $18 at other places of less taste. One mother bought five for dinner for her burger-hungry "rug-rats." Complete meals if you chose. Beats the price of other store's prepared meals by half. We drive by other food stores for another 8 miles just to experience the entertainment of selection and values. I am from Virginia and we used to buy food in Virginia before visiting Burlington, MA because prices in MA were so much higher. No so at Market Basket. Prime visit whenever in town.

It has all the produce I usually get, a great selection of grains, local dairy products, but what I love about this place is they also throw in unique items that I can't find elsewhere: ORGANIC sunflower seed butter, Moroccan preserved lemons, gourmet mushrooms, chili oil made with grape seed oil, Vermont goat cheese. There are usually a few staff members working, and for some reason I always get this young man at checkout, and he's really memorable because every time he asks me about at least one of my items -- asking me how I cook with it or if I recommend it, etc. I enjoy these little interactions very much! Random side notes, they keep a water bowl outside for dogs and it is right by a green line extension stop.

I especially love their bulk section because there's so much variety. They have so many types of grains, beans, spices, and teas. They also sell soap, dishwasher detergent, body wash and castille soap in bulk. You can bring your own containers which they'll weigh for you or use one of theirs. Definitely check this place out of you're looking to shop sustainably or just need to pick up a few grocery items!

I strapped up like I was Sherpa Tenzing, and boldly braved the elements while my beloved stayed in bed. I stumbled down a barren Boston Ave, jerking on closed door after closed door. Finally, like a sugar-and-fat oasis amidst the storm, I pulled on the door of Tufts Variety and it miraculously opened. What before my wonderous eyes should appear?! This crawlspace of a convenience store had one of everything I could need. Variety, indeed. In a truly strange twist of fate, there was one remaining Hungry Man Turkey Dinner left, with corn, stuffing and mashed potatos. Best ghetto Thanksgiving EVER. In the year that followed, I visited Tufts Variety often, fetching candies and ice cream. Not one inch of this store is wasted space--its a tight fit but it all fits, from ice cream novelties to lean cuisine frozen dinners, from soda in a can to peanut M&Ms. Hard-on for scratch-offs? There are PLENTY to be had here. It's grungy and dirty, but I prefered it to those other convenience stores with their "wide aisles" and "well-lit environments". The guy who ran that counter (always the same guy, always!) may not have known my name, but he sure did know my credit card--the $10 minimum on CC purchases meant I usually walked out with 3 more strings of Nerd Rope than I necessarily needed.

They have a decent dairy section, including organic milk, and some (non-organic) sour cream, cheddar cheese, Stonyfield & Chobani yogurts, and some ice cream. There's a coffee maker that uses coffee pods so it's always fresh (though it can't really compete with Starbucks across the street). They have a few pieces of fruit up at the counter. Tonight they had pomegranates! There's also the usual packaged food selection in the aisles in the middle, and coolers of drinks lining the walls. Straight back as you walk in there is a case that has Capone foods pastas and stuff, which is really convenient if you don't want to have to go all the way over to their store. There's also a little ATM, though I haven't used it--I'd imagine there's a fee as you use it, but don't know. Overall it's a decent place to stop by if you need a few items. The prices are fair, which was actually a surprise given the small size of the market. The place is well-lit, clean, and almost always empty, but I hope it sticks around so I can keep making my 9pm milk-runs.
