I shop for groceries from here regularly. Although grocery prices are high everywhere, the prices here are comparatively good. Also there are a lot of choices for fresh fruits, vegetables and meat, chicken and fish. the produce section staff are especially helpful. read more

There are plentiful seafood options (particularly frozen) and the chicken is first rate. The staff is super helpful as well; dedicated and hard-working. This is a review of their food court/deli area. I ordered some honey stung wings first, then waited for my number to be called to order a hot steak bomb, hold the onions. The sandwich is a great value and tasted really good. The staff is friendly as well. The major problem here is that I went mid afternoon on a weekday and the process takes way too long! There are 2 people manning the sandwich/pizza/wings space out front. They do NOT work efficiently at all. They just do whatever comes to mind first. I just wanted a sub and i was there for 40 minutes! All this time was spent waiting to place an order, then waiting for them to clean off the grills and start cooking, waiting for them to assemble the sub and package and hand it out. Kind of absurd and I hope for their sake that this is not the norm. The sandwich was excellent but due to the time of wait, it will be very hard to plan a lunch here at all. They need more streamlined work procedures to keep things moving along at a steady consistent pace. There were tons of people waiting and visibly frustrated. This is a store that sells really good quality produce and fruits as well. All the items in the produce section looked really fresh and ripe. Had never been into the Waltham Market Basket. I was very impressed not only with the assortment of pre made food but the quality. Everything looked fresh, well made and delicious. That's really not something that is normally said about supermarket ready to eat foods. I mean from pizza to sushi, made to order burgers, grinders they had covered it all. If someone in my family couldn't find something they liked to eat....go home and eat cereal! To top it all off....the prices are a fraction of a fast food or normal restaurant. First of all, totally blown away. Great prices and good quality. I ordered a steak bomb sandwich which is basically a steak and cheese on steroids. Big steak and cheese sandwich with pepperoni and salami with all the fixins for only $6.99!! Best value ever. They had plantains 2 for $1. The big plantains too. That's a good deal. The deli had good deals on cheese and cold cuts. And they have a great selection of Hispanic/Latino brands as well as food catering to other ethnic groups. I live in Connecticut and boy do I wish we had this chain where I'm from. I was only in town one day and staying at a local hotel but I will definitely be back whenever in the Boston area. Super friendly female staff also. One of the guys in the deli wasn't friendly but hey you can't have it all. Still a great find and I highly recommend. read more

I have been grocery shopping at Market Basket since it opened in Waltham. Last week, my husband and I went to buy groceries. We picked up everything on our list, and while my husband stood in line to pay, I left the store to return something at Marshalls, which is next to Market Basket. As I was leaving with a small tote, I heard someone yelling, "Ma'am... ma'am, did you pay for that?" I turned around and opened the tote to show what was inside. I felt angry, upset, and humiliated by the accusation. When I asked to speak to a manager, he didn't seem to care much about the situation. I expressed my belief that if I were a white woman, this wouldn't have happened. His response was, "I don't know about that." Of course, he wouldn't understand, as he doesn't know what it means to be Black in this country. Market Basket could improve by training its employees on how to treat customers with respect and dignity. read more

Market Basket is definitely a love or hate it place, I have friends who swear it is fabulous with the best prices, but I have always found it chaotic with prices similar to the others. Anyhow, I was at the Home Goods and really wanted some blueberries, so I gathered my courage and went in. Even at 11am the lunch crowd had lined up at the prepared foods area, so if you go on a weekday, perhaps you should make 10am your cut-off time for going in. The best thing about the entire 12 minutes was Vidilma P. who was working at the register and clearly has more patience than all of us! This place is very underrated on yelp. This location in particular is one of the best managed I've been to. It is always crushingly busy, but they manage the traffic well and it's never dirty or disorganized. I admit my review is biased because of the time/day we went - Sunday afternoon, the worst possible slot to go get groceries, but I think I'll stick with other supermarkets. Total noobie mistake. First, it was nearly impossible to even get into the parking lot, given all the haphazard traffic flow and people waiting for parking spots. It was just as much pandemonium inside. We spent more time navigating around carts and dodging other shoppers as we did actually trying to find what we needed. (And from a COVID/general flu season perspective, it was a relief to finally pay and get outside.) Pro-tip - if you have 12 or 20 items or less, there are two express lanes at one side of the store that moves much more quickly. Also, for what we usually get in groceries, I'm not sure the MB is that much cheaper than, say, TJ's, and the selection was more limited than I expected (maybe it had just gotten picked over). We did find a favorite brand of Greek yogurt that was on sale, but the green grapes were the same price as WF's and so were the boxed salad mixes. Maybe I'll come back on a Monday morning but still ... if I'm in this part of Waltham, I might as well just go to Costco. read more

If you need a battery operated grocery cart & think that you can use one there, forget it; what they have is for show & tell. They carry a lot of low carb low salt foods & prices are lower. People stock shelves in the day time mostly Mon.-Thurs. Huge store, pallets take up too much aisle space while waiting for someone to put goods on shelves; the store & parking lot are always very crowded unless you go at 7:00 AM; people who stock shelves the supplies rarely speak English. If you need a product & it isn't on their flyer at the end of the aisle, you need to go back to customer service desk. This is going to sound so silly but how do you stop making chicken tenders at 6:30 on a week night?? I waited over 30 minutes in line for the hot deli to go from number 24 to 27 only to get to the counter and be told they were not making any more food for the night outside of Buffalo chicken and the sub station items. Not only was that a major waste of time, but the refusal to make more when the store doesn't close for another almost three hours is just insane to me. [1034] 11/2019 Plenty of parking at this supermarket. I visited a Market Basket in NH so since I was local I wanted to see what treats were available here. This market is HUGE and I so wish there was a Market Basket near me in Philly. Clean market with tons of choices. I was able to pick up dinner and snacks. Aisles are wide so you don't feel cramped. There are about 30 tellers and plenty open when I visited. I'll be back in the area soon and will visit again :) read more

Costco, BJs, Aldi, Trader Joe's I always bought their mini Lobster rolls there as fresh and decent... last few times ... 1/2 amount of meat... waste of money. Used to go there for 1/2 gallons coffee milk... no longer carry... baked bread steep prices... better at Aldi or Trader Joe's ... ice cream selection all basic vanilla , chocolate, strawberry... no coffees? They have everything too, all the Goya products, all seasoning you need. I got excited in there. There were carts available, I didn't have to hunt one down. their kitchen prepared area has really good food. Their pizza are really good , you can get slices or you could order whole pizzas and they will heat the pizza for you if you get slices but the prices fantastic. Nice to have prepared food to bring home and put on the table. read more

I returned to the Market Basket in Waltham with the Eggland's Best egg container I purchased last week which now contained one broken egg. The rest were fine. The "courtesy" booth woman immediately contested my request for a credit by saying in a disdainful manner that she couldn't give me another container of eggs just because one was broken. After arguing with me for a few minutes - no apology or even understanding - she said I could take one egg from another container. I asked if she could give me a credit rather than have me walk out of the store with one egg in my pocket. She continued to argue that she couldn't give me a whole container of eggs. She acted moronic as we went around in circles. Just a credit for the egg, rather than one egg to carry around. It was't the first time I got a broken egg at market basket either, but it was the first time I took the broken egg back to the store, with the receipt, so they could see it. She finally called the manager. The manager was even worse. She took the broken egg out of the container and said I could take one egg and put it in the dirty container that the broken egg was in. I again asked her if she couldn't just give me a credit, as I was about to shop and I would rather not carry a dirty egg container around with one egg in it. She was totally unsympathetic to an unhappy customer now being mistreated for a second time, and this time by her, the store manager. She asked me in a sarcastic manner if I wanted a quarter. I asked for her name, and she said it was Jan. I asked for her last name, and she said she was the only Jan in the store. Well, it's a small thing, but I have found before that Market Basket personnel, including managers are not properly trained to treat the customers with respect. It's not a pleasant place in my experience, and I don't plan to shop there any more. I thought it was the lack of training that might be the problem, but when it comes straight from the store manager, then you know it's systemic. Don't recommend it despite the lower prices. read more

Visited the Boston area several months back and shopped at the Market Basket in Waltham which was my first trip to a New England grocery store. Market Basket is a family owned grocery chain with stores in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. While it is a chain, it is not owned by one of the big national grocery companies like Albertsons or Kroger. It has stayed independent and has been successful due to its focus on low prices. Market Basket is located at the 1265 Main retail development just off Route 128. This store is relatively new as it only opened in fall 2014. While the address is Main Street, if you are walking to the store it actually isn't located there. Instead you need to walk a couple blocks and through a lot of parking to reach the store's entrance. If you wanted to take the bus here, the MBTA route 70 bus does make a stop next to the store. Though not all of them have the same routing to Market Basket. Visited the store on a Sunday morning and it was crazy. The store was packed with customers filling up their grocery carts. The store is bigger than the grocery stores in the Seattle area as they have more checkouts here. As many as you would find at a Costco for reference. The produce selection here is a mix of what appeared to be regional and national brands. There were many products that I haven't seen in Seattle grocery stores. The prices here are pretty good on many of the items I looked at the prices on. There were a couple other things that stood out for me including that they have Asian produce. A bit shocked at that since Waltham isn't a big place, so this is quite convenient rather than having to go to the Chinatown in Boston. Also the store's selection of bakery and deli goods is pretty awesome. Particularly their bread offerings. Found some local specialty breads like scala bread and saloio loaf. The scala is a seeded Italian bread and is great for sandwiches or toast. While the saloio is a Portuguese bread that would be good for a Cuban or porchetta sandwich. I wish there was a place in Seattle that offered these kind of bread loaves. It was nice exploring a New England grocery store. Albeit a very busy one. I would suggest going on a weekday rather than on the weekend when the store is quite crowded. read more

They have everything you want and need at a good price. The only downside is going on a weekend. It's pure craziness. Waiting in line, what line?!? It's just a crowd. I actually went in a Saturday and there were no push carts at all. They were all taken which probably contributed to it being so busy. I would try to go on a weekday and if possible weekday mornings or afternoons. I like that they do have ready to order food available from pizza, subs, sushi, and wings. So if your too lazy to cook, you have choices! The customer service there is amazing though. At check out one of our items didn't get bagged. Yes, that was annoying when I was already at home to have to go back and grab it again but they made the process a little easier. read more

I absolutely adore this store. They have a lot of selections for just about everything and their prices are comparatively cheap to the other stores like Star Market in the area. Their fruit and vegetable selection is superior - always fresh and varied. The only real problem I have is that this is a very busy location and the store can get somewhat packed. The prices are good compared to the grocery stores where I live within Boston. I've never had anything I've bought there that was expired or was bad. I look at the dates all the time on the items I consider purchasing. I would give a five star rating but the only downfall that I dislike has nothing to do with the staff or store itself but with the customers. Every single time I've gone to this store, the customers act mental and are extremely rude. It's almost like "Supermarket Sweep". If you have patience then I recommend but if you lack patience I wouldn't step foot inside. read more

MB is a regional staple. I enjoy that no matter when an MB has been built the decor is all retro and looks exactly like every other MB built decades ago. I have no idea where you even still find the building supplies for something like that. ANYWAYS, this MB is spacious, good produce selection, good deli, and bakery. They have a better international food selection than many other area big box chain grocery stores. Most, if not all, checkout lanes are open on the weekends and the staff are quite efficient despite the lines. Prices are reasonable and I spend about a third less here on a weekly basis than I do at other stores. There is ample parking and it is absolutely necessary because even though this branch has been open for a while, shopping here on the weekend is still like a training ground for the Purge. People are generally oblivious and inconsiderate. And that's not the fault of any of the staff but the volume is definitely worth noting. The fact that I still engage in this weekly exercise in patience rather than going to another closer grocery store is a testament to how much I like this store. read more

I've been coming to this store now for about 6 months to do my weekly family food shopping. This store is definitely the biggest Market Basket I've ever encountered, and at the same time the cleanest. The staff are also very helpful and focused on customer service. Since the Covid outbreak it is worth noting that this store has done a really excellent job in making the store safe. The past few weeks I even heard the store manager on the PA system thanking customers for mask compliance and for social distancing, following floor arrows, etc. Comparatively, I had to go to Stop and Shop recently out of necessity for a couple of items as there is no Market Basket in Natick where we live. That store had no one cleaning carts, I counted 4 customers not wearing masks, etc...complete joke. The prices and service always make Market Basket number one for me.
