Fresh produce much fresher than at a typical chain. There's some very fresh stuff. I like this location because of the area. It's close to a Metro station. Things I really liked: 1) Wide aisles and clean store. Not your typical grocery store layout - you sort of wind through the store like you do at Ikea. Rare in DC to find a store that isn't cramped with narrow aisles. Same for being spotlessly clean - though it's a new store so I hope they keep that up. 2) Friendly staff. And they aren't short-staffed. I have never had to wait long in line. 3) Great selection of products, especially if you like organic, vegan, fair-trade, that sort of thing. 4) Location, location, location. Right on top of Van Ness Metro! I think every Metro should have one, ideally two, grocery stores on top of it. I never loved the Giant across the street, so I'm glad to have this option. It is really handy for commuters to pick up thing before and after work. They have some sales you can find, but yes, as you might imagine - prices are on the higher side. The kugels and charoset were both different from what I've experienced in the past as standard Pesach fare but were also tasty. I was, however, a little disappointed with the service. The meal had been ordered about a week in advance with the promise of a noon pickup availability on the day of Passover. It was, in fact, not ready for pickup until nearly 2 pm. This added unnecessary stress to an already tight schedule.

After using self-checkout, I accidentally gathered two old receipts that had been left in the machine along with my own receipt. I use receipts for the Fetch app and didn't think anything of it. I also could have simply thrown them away, but there was no garbage can close by that I saw -- the only one I noticed was outside the store. When I asked the security guard for help confirming how many bags I had purchased, she took my receipt and refused to give it back unless I handed over the other receipts. She repeatedly implied I could be using them to scam people because receipts show the last four digits of a card. I found that insulting, embarrassing, and completely unnecessary. This happened in front of other customers, and I was made to feel like I had done something wrong even though I had not stolen anything. When I asked what policy or law I had violated, no one could clearly explain it. There was no posted policy, no written notice, and nothing visible saying a customer cannot pick up or discard a receipt left behind at self-checkout. If this is truly a store policy, it should be posted and explained professionally -- not used as a reason to hold a customer's receipt and embarrass them. A manager later backed her up, but no one handled the situation with professionalism or basic courtesy. I also spoke with a manager named Xavier when I returned to exchange a snack, and I left feeling dismissed rather than helped. I understand stores may have internal receipt policies, but customers should not be embarrassed, accused, or treated like scammers over something that could have been explained calmly. Whole Foods should train staff at this location to handle situations with more respect, clarity, and common sense. I'm goin to contact their DM & share my situation. Also when I exchange my chips - I picked out something that was a dollar or two more expensive. I asked the manager, for all that you've put me thru, embarrassing me, humiliating me, making a scene- wasting an HOUR of my time so frivolously that maybe he could discount my item, a sign of good faith. Also please wrap the seafood products properly to avoid leakage. And do not use the same gloves to wrap the food that you used to cut the fish. The raw fish is on your gloves that you touch and spread to the outside of the wrapper that a customer now places in their cart.). On the flip side, every experience I've had with the cheese and wine department has been very good. Now the quality of most products and food here is great. Though the standards aren't what they use to be it's still Whole Foods. The store also is a little compact compared to most Whole Foods. If there were more space I think this would be a ideal spot for a PLNT burger.
