Each carry a lot of healthy items and stuff that's hard to find. This one is located in Cleveland Park. Good selection even though it's not big. It looks about the size of other locations. This has a few aisles, and there's not much room to get through. It makes it feel crowded even though it might be empty. The prices here are pretty good. Fresh produce much fresher than at a typical chain. There's some very fresh stuff. I like this location because of the area. It's close to a Metro station. The organic aspect & the variety of Vegetarian/Vegan options is a plus, yet the customer service lacks its luster. Especially if I am paying an extra $3-$4 more for my Vegan Butter & Cheese. From the comparisons I made most prices seems to be a little steep. Kudos for being a local family owned chain of organic markets (5 in DC/1 in Hyattsville) within the natural foods environment. However, it was not enough to move me due to the employee's non-acknowledgement when we walked in & the employee reading a magazine at the register while customers were in line at another register. This location is conveniently located a few blocks from the Cleveland Par Metro Station - Red Line, across the street from the AMC Lowes Upton 1 movie theater. Perhaps I will try another location, yet in the interim, it is always good to try something new where you can decide if it is a YES or a NO! read more

In January, I was very surprised to see a customer in this grocery store (Yes, Cleveland Park) with a baby and a large dog. It was obvious that the dog was not a service dog, but a pet. And even though there is a sign outside stating that pets are not allowed, the customer didn't bother to make sure the dog was left outside. No one in the store said anything to the customer. This dog was not behaving like a trained service dog. I see three problems here: 1. The store staff seems afraid to tell these entitled pet owners that pets are not allowed in the store (there is a "no pets" sign). When I told the staff about this pet in the store, they told me it was a service dog. I quickly refuted this and they finally admitted that the dog was not a service dog. Unfortunately, because of these aggressive pet owners, the staff is afraid to enforce the rules. What kind of world is this? Why can't a pet owner follow the rules? Why do pet owners think they have the right to intimidate people to get their way? This nonsense must stop. Lazy pet owners can't bully people because they want to take their pets everywhere. They need to make the effort to train their dogs. They can teach their pets to wait for them outside (at the store) or at home. 2. There is a potential risk of cross-contamination and hygiene issues. The problem is not the pet, it is the owner. You wouldn't believe how many irresponsible pet owners don't provide adequate veterinary care for their pets. Also, some of these pet owners don't seem to care about other people or if anyone has health problems (weak immune system, etc.). For instance, this dog was right next to human food. Unsurprisingly, untrained dogs/pets like to touch or sniff food or other items in the store. As for the store's responsibility, when I go to a commercial establishment (grocery store), I want to be sure that the products are in compliance with basic and required hygienic measures. 3. Because these pets are untrained, we don't know how they will react in a new environment with unfamiliar people. We were lucky that this poor dog was not aggressive. The owner was constantly scolding him for whatever reason and the pet seemed very stressed. Some dogs may react very aggressively under the same circumstances, posing a risk to the owner(s), customers and staff. Clearer signs should be posted regarding the 'no pet' policy, including a warning that large, untrained dogs/pets may pose a danger to employees, customers, and owners. read more

I love this little market tucked away on Connecticut Avenue between a wine store and another grocery store. Its convenient location in close proximity to the Cleveland Park metro and across the street from the Uptown Theater and the Cleveland Park library and many local eateries make this an appealing local grocery store. Gives you the option to pick up groceries on your way home from an early dinner out on the town instead of having to drive farther afield. Large selection of fresh veggies, bulk nuts and grains and other specialty organic and gluten-free items. The guacamole and some soups and other items are made in the store and can be bought fresh. Did I mention that the guacamole is amazing? Because it really is the best I've had in a while. I've been known to walk the 10 mins from my apartment just to get guacamole and chips because it's just that good. A large selection of wine, beer and ciders are also available on offer in the back of the store if you'd prefer not to make another stop and walk next door to the wine store. read more

Bulk BINS - bulk spices and grains! I love to get my herbs and spices here when I need something when I am in a bind. I can have goat products, so this is my go to for a nice variety. They carry goat butter, powdered goat milk, and goat yogurt. Additionally, they have a great variety of vegan options which also works for the dairy free diet. The gluten free selection is nice and big - cookies, pre-mixes for baking, crackers, breads, oats, flours and frozen items. As far as customer service, if they carried something before but are out of stock they will order it and make sure it's there! Everytime I visit I find something new and exciting I can eat! I haven't made a full conversion to doing all of my shopping here- just for products, vitamins, etc. when I need them or an organic gift for someone. But everytime I go in here I hav a field day with discovering some new organic laundry detergent, deoderant, or soap. I agree with Erin N. on the ethics issues with Whole Foods. "We support small farmers." Yea, and if by small farmers you mean the few LARGE farmers who now already dominate the entire US organic market, then yes, they support small farmers. I would go to any length to get organic- better than Safeway or Giant crap- but 'WF is just wrong with making claims like that and I won't support it. Yes! is a mom-and-pop feel store where the staff is knowledgable about health- at least in the vitamins and supplements area- and about the items they carry. They were willing to order a liquid vitamin for me (by the way, a short pitch on vitamins: liquid whole-food plant-based vitamins are the way to go, ditch the rock supplements) that they did not currently have available. I go here when I need a new fun soap or a pick-me-up snack and I feel great about it- financially, physically, and socially. read more

This is one of our neighborhood grocery stores and I couldn't be more grateful. I do most of my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's but I come to Yes! for very specific items of better quality. I love their grapes, brown sugar, raisins, bananas, cereals, and Nature's Own brand oatmeal. They offer a wide selection of wines and sometimes there's an in-store representative offering wine tastings. My most recent trip came after I was disappointed with the produce offerings at the TJ in Bethesda. No worries! I picked up everything I needed for under $30! I was especially pleased with how the Romaine Lettuce tasted in a salad I made for my little one! I'll be doing my produce shopping here from now on. Plus it's just steps away from my home and the lines are usually non existent. read more

I really like this place. It's actually a lot bigger inside than I thought it would be - except for when a several people are walking down an aisle at the same time. The produce is definitely hit or miss. I've seen it stocked with awesome and fresh organic produce and I've also seen it when the section has been totally picked over. Here are some things that I really like about this place: They carry Nana's Cookies - which are vegan and delicious. They carry Primal Strips soy jerky, which is really hard to find these days. They have a section devoted to pre-made vegan and vegetarian sandwiches all wrapped and ready to go. They have a huge section of vegetarian meats, not just the usual Morningstar/Boca stuff but some more exotic Lightlife/Asmars/Yves stuff. I feel that if you are a vegetarian or vegan this place blows Whole Foods out of the water. Their prices are comparable or better, and the staff is always extremely helpful. read more

This Yes market has the virtue of being right at a Metro stop, as well as being relatively accessible by car. Like its brethren, it is a small, tightly packed health food store, whose best virtue is its ample bulk bins. I go there for the delicious fig and peach apricot bars in the bulk bins, but there's plenty of whole grains, as well as a freezer filled with things like dairy substitutes and vegan prepared foods. It's expensive and doesn't hold a candle to the suburban health food markets (say, Mom's and Roots), but here in Northwest it serves a niche. read more

Surprisingly not overpriced. A lot of the food here does cost a bit more than other places, but I've been surprised to find things which are actually a bit cheaper than Whole Foods or on-par with Trader Joe's. The brands are great just try to stick to the stuff that's good quality and well priced (the bacon, ice cream, organic eggs come to mind) and get the stuff that costs way more (almond milk, anything from bob's red mill, pretty much all the produce) somewhere else. My biggest piece of advice to Yes: start taking American Express. You're missing out on some sales, at least at my store, because I buy a lot of food that they sell on my business Amex and I have to buy it elsewhere. read more

I go here for most grocery shopping and my favorite parts are: great fresh veggies, fruit, herbs, and mushrooms up front, bulk dried goods in the back of the store (like spices, oats, lentils, etc), a whole wall of boxed teas, local milk, cheese, meats. Mmmm. Be sure to try the spicy tofu jerky and the wasabi seaweed! I also love the friendly & polite cashiers. Their positive attitudes and vibes make my day a little bit brighter! Yes! has to be one of my top favorite supermarkets in the Cleveland Park area. Whenever my boyfriend and I decide to cook together at the last minute, we go to Yes!. They have several gluten-free options for him, and I can't even taste the difference. But, the pasta IS better! In addition, they have a wide-range of fun groceries like passion-fruit ginger ale...how awesome is that?! On this past New Years Eve, I took note that the cashier lady was catching up with a frequent customer and said "best of the luck with your new job." The freshly ground Breakfast Blend Coffee: It was $30 and I was on the defense about this at first... like what the fuck makes that coffee so special. Would it wake me up faster, will it not give that caffeine hangover, does it taste less bitter? HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Has prepared refrigerated vegan food like "chicken" salad & "egg" tofu salad etc. Small coffee station that has a variety of sweeteners and they provide soy creamer ! :) there is a bulk bin section with decent selection of nuts, trial mixes and dried legumes. Anyway, this is a tiny, cramped, slippery-floored, but *fantastic* source for all foods organic, gluten free, natural, fair-trade, shade-grown, etc. Such a small store can't rival Whole Foods in selection and prices, but with Whole Foods' questionable marketing and food ethics, I'm prepared to pay a few cents more to patronize a smaller store with less manipulative advertising. Yes! is the place to go for vitamins and supplements, teas, non-dairy ice cream (soy Chipwiches!), and baking supplies. I have to agree w/Zach M. when he says this place has terrible produce. I've seen moldy cherry tomatoes, blueberries, and wilting lettuce. I've also seen canned and jarred items w/expiration dates that have passed still on the shelf. I live in the neighborhood ,and am sometimes in need of something that isn't processed, or that is organic or at least moderately healthy and don't know where to turn and so I end up here. Other than the moldy and expired items, the place is clean. The staff is friendly and tries to be helpful. I find it more expensive than Whole Foods (I shouldn't compare...), but convenient. And they carry some amazing hard-to-find organic raw nut butters by Artisana that I love. The cashew/walnut is my favorite. They are open even on "snow days" when most other businesses on the block are closed. Anyway, if you're EXTRA CAREFUL to inspect what you're buying here, then you'll be ok at Yes in Cleveland Park. Yes used to get 5 stars. I am the 3rd generation to shop at Yes. I remember the cheerful, friendly, knowledgeable people they used to always have. I especially remember Francesca. Alas, all the new folks are cheerful and friendly but were obviously hired because Yes doesn't have to pay them much because they cerainly don't know jack about heathfood or their alternative merchandise. I have given up on Yes. I really don't feel good about going to a chain like Whole Foods and stopping to support a local small business. Statistically, local businesses reinvest most of there proceeds locally and large companies usually less than 10 percent (this includes what they pay in salaries). Whole Foods prides themselves with locally sourcing. So at least they give something to the local community. read more

Small but crowded floor to ceiling with a really great variety of organic and alternate dietary needs like gluten-free. The staff here is very friendly and always offer help in a very unobtrusive way. They have a massive selection of minerals and supplements, along with a wonderful health and beauty isle. My only complaint here is that on more than one occasion I have bought produce that was past its expiration date. Aside from having to check the dates before buying, this is a really great little store that I frequent as much as possible. read more
