Even though it says available 24/7 I don't recommend calling them. A last minute situation came up and I was trying to see if I could find a ride for the next day from palm desert to LA. Ubers were going for $236 and I was trying to see if I could get something cheaper. I saw Mom's Rides was available 24/7 so I figured I could give them a call since I needed to figure out a ride situation in less than 24 hours. I called around 10:53PM and she was nice over the phone telling me to send me send the addresses over so she can give me a quote. First class service. We used Mom's for a ride to the airport from Palm Desert. We. Asked to be picked up at 5:15 am. Of course, she was on time and even offered us a wake up call if we wanted. She and her husband loaded our luggage at home and went to get us a cart when we got to the airport. He unloaded our luggage and even offered to bring it to the airline queue for us. I went to Palm Springs for two reasons. One, every year when winter comes, it seems harder to deal with. This year I said no, I'm not ready. I'm going to the desert. Two, my antidepressants actually started to work which led to a breakthrough in therapy. I wanted to celebrate being a whole person for once. I owed it to myself to do something good for myself. I bought round trip, first class airline tickets and booked ten days at a resort. I flew from a cold, dark, wet place to hot, bright, dry and beautiful Palm Springs. This is where Mom's Rides comes into the picture. My room had a fridge, a freezer, and a microwave oven, so I called Mom to take me around Palm Springs so I could buy some things I could cook for myself. The van was super comfortable and Mom knew her way around Palm Springs. She wasted no time. When she dropped me off at the resort, she agreed to take me to Joshua Tree National Park for a whole day. She and her husband Lamar picked me up at the resort and my desert adventure began. I was excited about this expedition, all aspects of it, including the ride to the park. Mom wasted no time. We flew down the highway, passing cars and making excellent time. It was the perfect way to start off an adventure. I loved it. I love turbulence on flights, too. It's the only thing that makes flying fun. I wanted to see some ancient rock art. We stopped at Porcupine Wash. Mom stayed behind at the van, and my guide Lamar and I searched a whole string of mindblowingly cool rock formations. I stayed on the hard packed sand, while he looked for rock art up high. He lept from rock to rock like a mountain goat. There were no pictographs or petroglyphs to be seen, though there was a rock that had graffiti from 1840 and 1853. Next stop, Barker Dam. It was the most amazing trail, just magical. It was overwhelming. The botany and geology seemed to transport me to another planet. I got super dizzy and had to sit down for a little while. Drank some water, poured a bit on my head, felt better. The legs weren't responding to commands as well as they should have, and I did need help getting up some rocks. Lamar was patient the whole time, and was right there to grab my arm and help me up. We made it back to the van. It was nice to sit down and relax. We found a restaurant in Pioneertown. It was dark by the time we finished. The whole day was overwhelming. My senses, my spirit, my mind, and my body were transported to some other world. I made some great choices on my trip, and I met all of my goals and more. But other people, especially Mom and Lamar, helped make my adventure a grand one. It was a perfect way to celebrate my whole new life. They brought me to the airport, too, when it was time to leave. Mom showed up a few minutes early, which was a huge relief. Jill helped me out in ways I cannot even tell you. On a terrible day I was having, Jill helped out and went beyond anything you would get from Uber, Lyft, or a traditional taxi. Jill drove me to multiple locations to retrieve items I needed including going to a bank to get cash when I was told I needed cash to get my property back. Jill was compassionate and treated me like I was one of HER kids. We spent a lot of time together that day and I am sure she was sent to pick me up for a reason.
