I was hopeful in coming here but what a disappointment. I brought a couple silver coins and some cufflinks in to sell and they proceeded to treat me like my coins were fake. The staff is rude and clearly not as knowledgeable as they claim to be. I'd avoid - there's a dozen other places that don't treat you like a nuisance vs. a customer. read more

After years of having a good business relationship , I walked out without selling or buying a thing and will NEVER go back. The new ownership is substandard. The don't treat your items with care and the lady that helped me payed no attention to key dates on coins and was unfamiliar with any hallmarks. I was offered $10 for an 1878 CC Morgan because "it was dirty". They argued in front of me in a foreign language while the 2 of them had my items in 2 different areas. I finally just took all of my items and left. It seems that when the corporate buyout on this long standing mom and pops shop was initiated, keeping the integrity was not part of the package deal. read more

On March 29 I popped-in this shop, but the woman who opened her cage does NOT understand basic English! I asked whether she knows anything about those coins that are trending on the Internet now - "Wheat Penny", "2004 Quarter", etc. She just kept staring at me with her mouth open; not a sound... So the new owners are greedy and will lose business because of this. Offered $60 for an item I sold elsewhere (to another shop after leaving) for $160, with no negotiation necessary. After declining her ridiculous offer, the lady actually tried to charge me for testing the clearly marked (legitimate) .925 sterling silver. I literally had to tell her, no, that's not how this business works. I will be leaving now. Good luck. And buyers/sellers beware. My husband told me about this place (raved about it, in fact). As an avid collector, he buys a lot of silver (and I have my own smaller investment of bullion and bars). So when the time came to make our first (modest) purchase of gold bullion, naturally we went to Mom's Silver Shop. And he wasn't exaggerating. By far a superior shop to any others in the area (and likely the entire Sacramento Valley and beyond). I believe either my husband or I have visited every shop in the tri-county area and this one tops them all. Most of our bullion purchases were online (APMEX, etc.) because of the scarcity of sufficiently stocked "brick and mortar" venues for purchasing precious metals. Until we found Mom's Silver Shop. This is not one of those shops where there's a meager handful of random coins/bars in one or two dusty showcases. "Mom" has an awesome selection (so much so that we walked out with more than we originally came to buy. :) The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable, as were their 3 adorable little dogs (mini dachshunds, I think) who gave us a very warm and friendly greeting as we were buzzed in. Even my husband, who doesn't care much for small dogs, was charmed and couldn't resist bending down and getting some love from these guys. Mom's Silver Shop's prices are very competitive, and their selection of gold, silver, and copper was a veritable buffet of bullion and bars! No pushy salespeople here! Nor did they hover (at least not in any obtrusive way). "Mom" (Joyce) and John were very engaging and my husband and I both struck up conversations. Joyce pointed out items that she thought we'd be interested in -- but didn't try to push a sale. (Probably didn't have to with us -- I was like a kid in a candy store.) Our visit was more like visiting family than a business. We walked out with a bag of new treasures, and we look forward to our next visit. Husband's birthday is coming up so Mom's Silver Shop is definitely on the top of my list of stops on my birthday shopping run. If you collect (or invest) in gold/silver, etc., and if you haven't paid Mom's Silver Shop a visit then you're missing out. read more

I've been buying and occasionally selling here for many years. John, Joyce and Wes have always been great to talk to and do business with. Amazing depth of knowledge. The new owners, Jason and his parents, have carried on this great way of doing business. An example is today I went in to buy some silver bullion and they didn't have the particular size I wanted but they did put together the weight I wanted and sold it to me for the same price as the size I wanted. Little bit pricy but it's a good shop if you want to buy less than 10 pieces. There's tax you have to pay for purchase under 1500. You can buy online for tax free and little bit cheaper per coin. All and all it's a good shop read more

This isn't your typical coin/pawn type shop. It is extremely clean and nice and the older guy (sorry don't know name) is super friendly and bends over backward to make you feel welcome - without being pushy. I took my 5yr old daughter here a few weeks back and he gave here a discounted clad coin coin and some coin chocolates, which were a huge hit. They are very competitive when compared to places like apmex, especially once you factor in shipping costs, and if you spend $1500 and get no tax, it is a no brainer. No shady business on pricing either; if you ask a price, he looks at the TV screen based on current spot and gives you an immediate answer. Great place. read more

Every other place had unfriendly and pushy dealers tapping on the counter, hinting for you to either buy something or get out. Wonderful people who provide the best prices in the Sacramento area. I stopped by Joyce and John's place of business (Mom's Silver Shop) with an old brief case full of coins, to get an idea of the value. Another coin dealer had offered to buy them for substantially less. Joyce spent about three hours with me going through all the coins and listing their value (if there was more than face value). During this period of time there was plenty of pleasant and fun conversation about everything from coins to history. My experience with moms silver shop leaves little to be desired! For being in the business of Buying & Selling coins, I thought it odd, upon asking the question do you buy coin proof sets of USSR before the falling of the wall, their answer was "Why would we want to buy coins like THAT!"....Okay what do I know? So then I went in with {what I thought to be valuable dated 1800 coins), moms silver shop never accepted their worth in rarity value, and ONLY issued to me the worth content of silver .925 value. I later researched (which I should of done sooner) and learned that those coins (that my dad saved for me as "Rainy day coins") were worth a great deal of money. I guess one could assume, I was taken advantage of! I advise everyone to NOT go to moms silver shop! read more
