I wanted to like this place. It's small, appears to be family owned, and is like three blocks away...but they have a very poor attitude when it comes to the coins themselves. I brought a coin along to spark a conversation to get to know them, and there was no discussion about favorite coins, just a cold judgement of how worthless that particular piece is. (a 1913 Buffalo in an old 1960s PCI Photo slab, great conversation piece.) Their 'Open' sign is always flipped to closed, you literally have to try the door every time you go there because you never know from driving by, so all three times I've gone to this store I've had to stand in front of the door that has a list of hours saying they SHOULD be open, and a sign that says 'Closed' right next to it, while I wait for someone to determine if I should be buzzed in or not. The last time I went, I was just stared at for a good 30 seconds while I kept asking "Aren't you open?" through the glass. Of course, they couldn't hear me, and the woman behind the counter had a look on her face that read "If I don't move he won't see me!", so I shrugged and walked away. I will NOT be back. Overall, I felt like I was a nuisance to the staff for wanting to chat about coins while I browsed for some pre '65 uncirculated quarters and dimes. It's as if they look down on the hobby, and just want to be in the bullion business. So, if you are looking to buy a few Kilos of silver or a few ounces of gold for a very high premium, I'm positive these guys will be welcoming to you, but if you collect coins for the hobby and look like you are middle class don't be surprised if they hide and pretend to not be in. DO NOT BOTHER GOING THERE!!! I called in advance to confirm they buy coins, currency and gold, which the guy answering the phone confirmed they do. They 'close' at 4 pm. I arrived at 3 pm. ~ Door is locked (understandably)... 'CLOSED' sign hanging on the door. I see Mr towards the back at a computer station. I wait... and wait. He knows I'm there, but ignores me... I knock. He looks up at me, then... goes back to his keyboard. I wait... and wait some more,... then I knock again,... He looks at me as I'm holding up my large manilla envelope to indicate I am here for business reasons and point to my watch, asking if they are 'open' ~ Mr comes to the window,... not the door,... and calls out 'what do you want?. I hold up, and open, the envelope so he can see the contents, telling him what I have. ~ He proceeds to tell me that they 'don't want it' and walks away! ~ If I could rate them at 'ZERO' stars... that's what they truly deserve!!! :(:(:( read more

I'm going to start with this place dosnt even deserve 1 star, the young guy with short hair has a terrible attitude he speaks as if he is always right and your wrong. He says he know everything about coins but he told me the coin I had wasn't worth anything. And I took his word for it, but I took it to another place and the same coin he said wasn't worth anything I got an estimate $100.59 (the same place recommended I don't sell it yet because the value will keep rising) the coin I had was (Carson City silver dollar) I wouldn't have wrote this terrible review but the way he talks and looks at people is very mean. The nicest person in there is an old man and he might be the owner I'm not sure. Buy I'm writing this review for the owners information. Aloha Guys....I just saw this post from years ago and very disturbed so I said I need to write an updated review to truly tell the public how special you all are as humans, as people, as business professionals. The danger about writing reviews its a double edge sword and you never know whose telling the truth or who obviously is just angry about something. Anyhow I just want to tell you alittle about what I learned about why the close sign, why the door locked, etc...if you've ever been in a coin sharp their inventory can be huge and very special and worth a lot of money. A collectors dream! If you see bars on the windows its for a reason to protect the people inside. The door is locked because if you've been robbed several times you might consider this and the only way thru is if they let you through for security reasons. This family (yes it's family owned and that's what I love about this place) is the most gracious and honest family I've ever met and trust. I'm Hawaiian and ohana (family) is everything. They know their business and are experts at what they do. When you think you know a lot about currency, coin, collectibles, whatever just chat with them and you will be speaking with highly educated and experienced professionals. If they don't know the answer they won't lie! or make it up. I personally have been in this store many times and have seen many of his current customers from far away come to do business with them and let me tell you these clients are not poor. I listen to the conversation and Marconi does not pressure you or speak bad about the competition. They invite people back and take care of their customers. The entire staff is just wonderful and I'd rather have a door locked and have a security procedure in place versus getting robbed while I'm in there. I did the footwork and searched a lot of coin dealers in Sacramento, and these guys had the lowest dealer price over spot for silver or gold coins in the area, by quite a bit, actually. Compared to some dealers, less than half! And I found these guys to be very friendly and informative. I didn't find them to be shady or whatever. They run a good business, I think.
