I went into Monarch Coin Corporation with the full intention of doing honest, respectful business. I brought in a backpack filled with a large collection of coins I had legally purchased through an online auction--including four identical 2025 Gold Eagle 1/10 oz coins, all graded NGC MS70. The backpack wasn't for show--it was simply because I had that many coins on me. At first, the woman behind the counter seemed very nice, very personable and willing to work with me. She gave me quotes on several coins, and I appreciated that. But after thinking it through, I decided to just sell the four matching gold Eagles. That's when things took a turn. She originally quoted me $370 per coin, which I agreed to. Then she left the counter--twice--to go speak with someone in the back. When she returned, the price had mysteriously dropped to $332 per coin. No clear explanation--just a sudden change. Then came the excuse: I was "too new of a customer," and because of that, I wasn't allowed to buy or sell anything. That's when it got personal. She asked, "What's up with the backpack?"--as if carrying coins in a bag was something suspicious. Then she questioned how long I'd been collecting and where I got the coins from. Meanwhile, one of the men behind the counter stared at me the entire time, making it very clear I wasn't welcome. Yes, I looked a little scruffy and unshaven that day, but that doesn't give anyone the right to treat me like a criminal. I was polite, honest, and transparent. What I received in return was profiling, judgment, and flat-out disrespect. And I believe that kind of treatment isn't just unethical--it may be unlawful. I will absolutely be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. No one should be treated this way, especially not in a professional business setting. Twice I went in there to sell coins and they ripped me off. First time, they said my American Silver Eagles had a "white milky haze" on them, so they were giving me less value than what they were worth. I thought that was strange because they were straight from the mint and had never been touched. I looked it up afterward, and it turns out that milky haze is a byproduct of minting, some of the coins have that as soon as they're minted and it's not a sign of any wear or tear. The coins were not damaged but this place screwed me anyway just because they could. Another time, they gave me less than what my coins were worth again because the said the spot price was less than what it was actually trading for on markets. Their data said spot was 29.70 or so, when in reality it was more like 30.30 according to all financial news sources. read more

First thing, this is a review of Monarch Coin but I'd like to say I went to All About Coins first and have to say if you're gonna give your grand kid a summer job give him one handing out ice cream cones not one that requires actual knowledge of evaluating objects of worth, collectibles!! A Morgan Silver dollar is about condition, mint mark, date, circulation, and how many stamped, not silver content! I was severely disappointed as Yelp initially had them a top coin dealer so I went to them first. Now my background is not on evaluating coins but it is in buying and selling collectible firearms, I know about doing research, checking the present and looking to the future market as well as one can, condition, etc: When the kid put the coins on a machine and determined the value of each Silver dollar at 25.00 I knew he wasn't trained in actual values, but enough about his inept training, although when the customer asks you about his research on the coins produced much different results and you basically say 'anybody can say that' you might want tell him if you don't know find someone in the store who does!! He even questioned the coins in front of him could be fake???!!! Anyway Monarch paid 3 times the estimate given me by All About Coins, ironically named business BTW! THANKS KAYDEN at Monarch. Cruddy customer service and very limited business hours. I called them looking to buy gold coins, I asked if they accept credit cards and they said yes with a 4% fee. I spent 50 minutes getting there, just to be told that their policy is to cap credit card purchases at $2000 - would have been nice to mention that on the phone! I asked to talk to the manager, who just left me waiting at the counter until I decided to leave some 10 minutes later. The girl at the counter says he rarely comes out from behind his desk. Well, if a manager can't be bothered to take 30 seconds to talk to his customer looking to make a large purchase, then he doesn't deserve any customer's business. Worst coin shop in town. I went to sell some silver, they gave me less than round price for maples, bc of some spots. No other place in town gives less than round price. Then, when I lightly complained about that ONE issue, the daughter decided to gripe me out and claim that I'd been complaining since I walked in. No. I hadn't. I asked the prices and said ok, my single complaint that I barely said anything about was the non-round price. Talk about left handed gaslighting... what is this Nazi germany and no complaints are allowed? Never again, terrible customer service. Mom was nice, daughter was typical genZ/millennial. No place for gaslighting in business. Update: I went to another shop in Sugarhouse and they said they'd never give less than posted maple price for milk spots, and they'd give at least round if scratched. Absolutely a joke. I will never buy from them. They told me I had to pay with a cashiers check instead of with cash because cash was more complicated and I would have to fill out extra paperwork. I called 15 minutes out to see if they had on hand what I needed and, they did. I told them I would be there at 5 PM. She said ok we'll be ready. Then they said their vault closes at 5:01 PM so I asked them to take the coin boxes she told me were on hand and that I had a cashiers check for out of the vault and I was two blocks away. They said there was no problem if I came in and bought junk silver and that didn't have to go in the vault. Ultimately a block away with a cashiers check of $ _______ she told me on the phone "sorry we just closed the vault I'm so sorry... have a great night." and I pulled in at 5:02 with the closed sign already up on their window and no signs of anyone around. Now I have a cashiers check I don't want to use on monarch with their name on it and have to go back to the bank and have that reversed. I called another coin dealer who's open 30 minutes later than them doesn't close their doors on you when the closing minute hits because I've shopped with them before at closing time... and they're American Silver Eagles were six cents less than monarchs to boot. I'll spend my $________ elsewhere guys... And any time after that too... read more

These guys are straight up business! I'm pretty sure they don't adverse and that's why they can have such low premiums compared to other local shops. Plus, they almost always have what I want to buy in stock. I called another shop for the hell of it and they told me they had it in stock and went in there they told me they just sold out and it would be 3-weeks! Monarch is very polite, friendly professional, but a big part of their business is security, so don't go in expecting to be able to touch everything(everything is locked up). They have a huge showroom downstairs that has all the old US coins from pennies to dollars. I buy mostly bullion but it's still neat to look down there. Their website has their prices and what they have in stock. It helps to take a look at the website because the spot prices changes all the time. I learned about Monarch Coin Corp from a jeweler I found on Yelp. While he bought and sold gold coins, he recommended Monarch for the quantity I was selling. They were closing in 15-minutes, so I rushed right over. Security is something Monarch takes seriously. When I arrived, the staff buzzed me in through two locked doors, which immediately set my mind at ease. All the service employees wore sidearms, and that made me feel safe and secure. Travis helped me right away and explained all the options they could offer. The prices were precisely in line with what I was hoping to receive for my coins. After agreeing to the amounts, they cut a cashier's check in 3-minutes. The whole process took about 10-minutes. All the staff was polite and courteous, and I felt like they were working hard to ensure that my transaction was handled promptly and professionally. While this was my first foray into selling valuable coins, I can't imagine how anyone could have done a better job. My experience was fast and efficient but didn't feel rushed. I received the prices I desired for the coins, and it all happened in an environment where I felt safe and comfortable. If and when I decide to sell other coins, Monarch Coin Corp will be my first--and likely my final stop. read more

I mainly buy and sell gold, silver from them. Probably have done 6 total transactions with them. What I like is that they are straight up and do back up with what they say. This business is full of amateurs and little bad rate shops, and always customers that think they want to do it there way. There policies are clear and their rates are very competitive, alot better than on line. I drive 500 miles round trip to there shop. And as far as I'm concerned they can run what ever hours they want. It's there business, you don't like it go else where.
