I've gone here for many years and have always enjoyed their selection and the quality service provided. The staff members are knowledgeable and friendly, and are willing to help when needed. It doesn't feel like the owner is just there to collect a paycheck but is genuinely interested in providing a wide range of products to customers. Over the years I've seen the same kits around, I would love to buy them but the price just feels too high for what it is. I understand this is somewhat out of their control but when it's the same kit I've seen for years and years I feel like a price drop of some sort would be warranted. read more

I'm new to the area and stopped in looking for a hobby shop to help with wiring for an N-scale train set. While the store primarily focuses on remote control cars, it's fully stocked with everything RC-related. Even though my project wasn't their main specialty, the gentleman there was very helpful and took the time to find exactly the wire I needed. It's just a real shame....the loyalty and the developing relationship between business and customer that I thought was going excellent. The ridiculous amount of money I was handing over without buyers remorse and the guarantee of much , much more money I would have gladly continued to hand over had I not experienced the atrocious and downright worse customer service/treatment I've ever faced in my whole 46 years of life. I will explain and express the situation/experience without exaggerations , clear and to the point...and most importantly, with nothing but the truth so help me God. I get to MRS a little past 7pm, so it's the weekend and they closed in under an hour. As I search for a kit to take home with me. I find one that is missing it's price tag. There are two employees at this time and I chose the one who I have not yet met or spoken to look up the price. Like I said ... I've spent a good chunk of change so far at my new hobby shop but that doesn't mean that I'm wealthy. I seek the price as I've got a budget to stick with along with needing some supplies also. It's my lucky (or really unlucky) night....the amount falls right within my budget. I don't know the exact time but I'm pretty positive that they will be closing very soon.. so with my model and supplies I head to the counter to get rung up and be on my way. The employee ring it all up and amazingly it's pretty close to exactly what I have to spend. I tell the clerk that about $5 or so dollars of the total will have to be cash as my debit card is just a little short. As an observation from my point of view...it would seem that I've irritated the employee just a tiny bit as he explains that the business doesn't except cash after 6pm. I've been coming to MRS now for probably under 6 months and it has every time been in the evenings because of my work schedule. I know that there have been a couple occasions that I paid with cash so I was confused and clearly didn't know about the cash protocol. I think tried to explain that 95%+ will be on my card and the fact that closing time is practically there. But the clerk wasn't interested and told me there is nothing he can do to help and I can come the next day to get the model. It was around this moment when I under my voice scoffed with a "F" bomb in displeasure of the situation and the policy..... mostly because how excited I was to be getting this model to start on the weekend and the fact that I would not be able to come the next day to get it. If the employee was irritated before...now he's legitimately angry. And that confused me as he kind of bombards me with the reason for not accepting cash in the evenings. He explains that being a busy shop and being the only employee physically there. That having cash in the till is a major safety hazard. He also says something to the effects of "I'm the special customer and he should take my cash so the business makes the sale and so he can be murdered when he gets robbed"....he then tells me that I'm lucky to be allowed to come the next day to get the model. Now it's at this point when my confusion is overloaded and ask him what I did to be deserving this treatment....I explain that I'm a repeat repeat customer and have become a regular who has not once come into the shop and not buy something .... without sounding like a snob I mentioned the sum of money I've been spending.... I'm not a thief ... Nor would I ever steal, I respect the owner, his customers, his business and this is how I'm respected. The clerk then tells me that he doesn't need some random customer cussing him out about how to do his job. To which I try to explain that I cussed at and about the policy in the situation of having 95%+ of the money on my card and with literally minutes remaining till closing that you couldn't take the $4-$5 cash and be customer friendly. His response...I need to leave the business and property before the police arrest me for trespassing......oh and don't ever come back. It's just an absolute shame. Right now my house has roughly 1,000+ built scale models on display and I don't really see myself not building models at any point in my future. This is my second attempt to wright a review from this experience. Not just to inform others but mostly for the owner to be clued in on what could happen in his business when he's not there. I noticed that he is interactive with the reviews for his business and I guess I was hoping he'd try to reach out to me.... maybe to apologize or who knows .... maybe that whole nightmare of an experience is also policy and clerk guy just got a raise. I was never contacted .I didn't see any response on the first review and now I couldn't even find the review. Oh well....like I said I don't see myself not being involved with scale modeling one way or another....it just won't be done through MRS as at least the one employee has completely destroyed that partnership. This is an amazing hobby shop. They have basically every accessory you might want for any hobby, a huge variety of products, and the service was exceptional. On our way out, the employees gave us a list of online stores. Organization of sections was great. I would leave 6 stars if I could. If you don't mind having to look around a bit, or asking questions, then you definitely have a great resource on your hands here. This is one of those hobby shops where you probably just have to ask the owner. It's stuffed to gills with lots of materials and supplies, but your best bet is asking where the one thing is located that you're looking for. They seem to have quite a bit of model railroad, model airplane, and model car kit. In addition, you will find everything you need to create an entire scene: miniature trees, grass, rocks, and all of those kinds of supplies. Want to take your creation? They definitely have you covered with tons of small paints. There are other odds and ends here, like model rocket supplies, kites, but really it's the kind of place where you just need to call them and ask if they carry whatever it is you're looking for. read more

It's sad that you don't want to take responsibility for your actions. I did mention to you that I recorded everything, right? You stated you were also recorded everything, even the telephone conversation we had about the charging. Which I asked for you to replay, and you said no. Never once was I "angry"or "Belligerent" as you claim. Actually it was the complete opposite, you guys were frustrated that I didn't want to bow down to you. Let's remember what was stated. Never once did you state it was dangerous or could explode, you said we have done this in the past and it should work. Let's not forget the reason why I was in this situation, you sold me the wrong item. Professionals don't act like children and yell and get mad at people for not agreeing with a lie. I can't agree with a lie, I got it, you don't want to be wrong! Childish, pathetically childish were your actions. I have a recording of your owners yelling and getting mad at me and customers next to me perfectly fine because I wasn't the one causing the issues. I have been told many times to put the video online so that everyone can see how it actually went down. Let me know if you want a copy ahead of time. Or you can just apologize for your actions? Even the police officers were thrown off at how ridiculously rude you and your staff were acting. Please let me know if you would like a copy. I was recently in Salt Lake City and asked my son who lives in Park City Utah what is a good place to go for military models and figures and he took me to MRS Hobby shop which is amazing and the prices are fair and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for toy soldiers of all scales, models, military vehicles of all scales, and books on the subject. They have it all and great service. read more

These just something about a small business. I decided to but an R/C car from there versus my typical online choice for purchases. The store is small, but they have lots of things to get into. Planes, trains, cars, models, collectibles and tons of other things I'm sure I'm missing. One of my favorite things is the cabinet of customer model builds. This deserves an update as this is now my go-to model shop. It is literally wall to wall to ceiling to floor models, along with a lot of figurines and great tools. Doug himself is one of the greatest resources a modelist can have and his passion shines throughout. Literally anything can be found there, including airbrush compressors and scene materials to make a diorama, if you're so inclined. Additionally, there is by far the largest selection of paints I think I've seen anywhere, as far as modeling shops. Best of all, there is a rewards program and they make things easy. Pricing is quite fair and competitive, even to online outlets and there is honestly little reason to shop anywhere else, even considering the extra distance. read more

Doug has the mind that if he don't have it, he will get it for you . but i have never not found what i was looking for there, he got trains ,planes, cars and boats and even R.C ones too. This is a great little hobby shop tucked into a corner of Sandy. I'm not a hobbyist but come here often for specialty glues, paints, files, brushes, and other tools and bits for small projects. MRS carries top quality materials and supplies, and the prices seem very competitive. They have a great selection of what looks like everything you need for model RC cars, trains, planes, etc. It's a fun store to just browse around when you have a couple extra minutes. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and always helpful. read more
