3.5 stars. My friends and i came here on 4/2/18. The magicians were funny and performed great tricks. The tricks were unique and had all of us thinking"how the hell did he do that?!" The hypnotic trick was a little creepy but fascinating. The other trick that really impressed me was when the "mentalist" was able to guess the names the audience members were thinking. During intermission, there were 2 magicians doing tricks. This is a great idea to keep the audience engaged during the entire show's duration. I docked 1/2 star for the cramped seating and 1 star for the emcee's constant pitch to fill out the survey. Yo, you only need to tell me one time. read more

I'm not really into magic. There, I said it. I only came to Monday Night Magic out of obligation--tickets were a gift for my mother, so I came along for the ride. The good: I was able to get tickets at a great price--they do periodic promotions on livingsocial/groupon, so I saved some money. The bad: the venue was a typical older NYC theatre, with worn, uncomfortable seats. The view from the seats, the lighting, and the acoustics were all just fine, but it just felt a little cramped. The fantastic: I really enjoyed each of the performers. David Oliver did more oldschool style magic--the kind we're used to seeing at a magic show, while Joshua Lozoff did more of what I'd almost call newschool magic--interactive audience magic. The MC (sorry if you're reading this, I didn't catch your name) was entertaining and kept the show moving. The star of the show was definitely Harrison Greenbaum. Some of his smaller skits were a bit off-colour, so I wouldn't recommend bringing small children or the overly fussy with you, but near the end I was nearly weeping with laughter, and his magic was interactive and enjoyable. I was seated in Premium Seat section, and my party was selected to participate in two different sections of skits--people near the front were chosen more than people further back, so if you want to be part of the show, definitely choose VIP or Premium seating. read more

This is the oldest magic club in NYC and the best value. Each show features 3 excellent magicians and 3 performing close up magic at intermission. The small theater means all seats are good. Tickets are frequently available through TDF at a discount. Great for kids and for adults who want to see magic and maybe get a chance to help with a trick. They offer discounts at 11 nearby restaurants. The staff is very nice and the producer very helpful. The performers change weekly and take varied approaches to magic. Many are very funny. read more

The magic (what there was of it) was great; the rest of it was eh. And the ratio was heavily skewed toward the eh. The opening act was a two-person Cirque du Soleil wannabe. It was so surreal that the word "trippy" is almost too obvious. But no magic. The first magician spent a long time talking and performed only two actual tricks, both of which involved some writing mysteriously appearing, based on audience input he couldn't have known ahead of time. His humor is heavily "ethnic" and somewhat dependent on making fun of his own Jewishness. Some people are offended by this; I just found it lazy and outdated. It was unnerving to hear the (obviously non-Jewish) guy next to me laughing uproariously at stereotypes about ... me. There was close-up magic at intermission. Do not miss this! It was mind-boggling. The second magician was much better than the first, although there was a lot of talking/chatting with the audience there as well. He finished with some amazing card manipulation that showed great artistry. The show changes regularly, so keep that in mind. My experience will differ from yours. There were people in the audience who were howling with laughter throughout, and there were people who were pretty drunk. There were children, and there were non-English speakers (I'd love to hear what the latter made of all this. No, on second thought, maybe I wouldn't.) Parts of the show felt amateurish and others were designed with a lowest-common-denominator kind of appeal. There was some great magic, but it really felt like an old-fashioned comedy-variety show from network TV in the '70s. It doesn't age well, but if that's your thing, go for it. read more

We went to see a magic show about a month ago. I expected magic instead we saw a comedy/juggling act with a few minutes of a few magic. I was disappointed only because I expected a MAGIC show. After I wrote a review to my surprise the owner emailed me!! He said I was the only one who wasn't happy with the show. What was even more surprising was I received a phone call also!!! (Not sure how he got my #) It's not that I didn't enjoy the show. It was fun, I just expected magic. I would recommend you check the performers before going since they change from week to week. Then decide. I think I just picked a bad week. On a side note I did attend a magic show in Queens about two weeks later and it was amazing. I'll definitely agree with Kimberli M.--on a Monday night when most of the performing community is taking a well-deserved break, this is an event worth checking out. The close-up magic acts at intermission were great, and the fellow who emceed (Michael Chaut?) was a stitch. The stage acts were generally good, though at several points I found myself wishing for a fast-forward button to skip through the "non-magic" parts of the performances. Several of the magicians interspersed their illusions with other kinds of stage performance. It's a good idea in theory, and it worked some of the time--one fellow was doing a "spinning dishes on sticks" routine, and another did some very clever juggling of rings that would interlink and come apart in a very non-obvious way. However, the guy who decided to just sit down and sing a song, as well as the performer who tried to turn a very simple trick into a 10-minute allegory for how much a couple loved each other...bleh. read more

This is the best magic experience in New York. I've taken my family several times and its always a very different experience. Some days its a kids show and others you have a mind reader but always good. super secret tip: all the magicians go across the street to the "Noho Star" after the show. If you show up they all try out their new stuff on you. My daughter got to see the headliner up close for almost a half hour for free. Well worth it. read more

I love magic. I've been the magic castle in LA, I practice a bit of magic myself, and have always appreciated the art. Monday night magic was really disappointing. This show is truly for young kids, though I didn't see this in any of the promotional materials (on Goldstar). Also - Most of the magicians tried to be comedians too much. One of the magicians didn't show up so the producer of the show had to step in. Kids, on the other hand, seemed to love the show! If you have a 5-10 yr old, this is a great place to bring them. I know NYC is all about musicals and plays but don't miss out on this terrific magic show. I wish we had something like this in LA where a rotating lineup of magicians can showcase their talents. (Yes, I know we have Magic Castle but what about for the rest of us nonmembers?) Don't expect a high-budget Vegas style show. These are true professionals who don't need fancy gear to deceive you. There were so many huh? moments during the show. The theater is small so there are a lot of opportunities for audience participation. If you're shy, don't make eye contact with the magicians. There are 3 segments with 1 intermission. During the intermission, there are several other magicians in the lobby area performing close-up magic. This was cool. I'd honestly return, and I don't usually do things like this. I usually just find somewhere to eat and walk around for fun. This show had me mesmerized. I couldn't look away. During intermission, which is unlike any other intermission you've ever experience, I had to use the bathroom but somehow found myself glued to my seat. This is because they do "close up magic" during intermission. Magicians go to your section of the place and do up-close magic for about ten of you. It was even cooler to see the magic that close because it makes you wonder even more how they do it! Every Monday is different, but the show I saw was awesome. Really fun date night. There are several different magic acts, my favorite was the great throwdini, a knife thrower who had my heart in my throat. The theater is a bit dated, but that's ok. I understand that there are many different acts that rotate in and out of here. They have 2 close in magicians performing at opposite ends of the theater during intermission. The one I watched, Matteo or Matthias was super talented. So you get a lot of magic for the price. Over all a great experience. read more

Show was outstanding!! Came here for an 8pm show, made reservations that same day, which they actually ask for you to reserve two weeks in advance, but accommodated us anyway. From the outside, theater appears to be a "rinky dink" theater, but once inside theater is pretty decent. We had great seats to the show. Everything was well organized, very nice staff. We thought it was going to be a basic magic show..we were wrong! from the time the host, Harrison Greenbaum took the stage until the very last act, we couldn't stop laughing. It was comedy, mixed with magicians--Jon Stetson & David Corsaro & skilled juggler--Michael Dubois. Some tricks had you trying to secretly figure out how they pulled them off, others had you just in pure amazement. Regardless, I will be back and bring some more people with me. Unfortunately it seems to run only on Mondays--not the most convenient, but very worth it! Works well as a creative date or night out with friends. read more

Great acts and they are very funny. Amazing how these tricks are done. Theater is small but its worth getting tickets up front. You may get pick to come up stage sometimes. I hope to come back soon. Only poor part of the acts were sometimes the person getting on stage messes it up when they try too hard to be silly. On the September 8th show the blonde tall lady screwed up the act for everyone because she wanted to act silly and not follow directions. World record knife thrower dazzled the audience, bringing harry houdini's actual throwing knife onstage, and attempting death-defying throws that left us mesmerized. A magician-comedian was genuinely hilarious and amazing, and without giving away any tricks, your jaw will be on the floor based on the magic tricks we witnessed. I came here on a first date with my current girlfriend and it is safe to say that we both liked it a lot. I came here when I heard Rocco the world renown sleight of hand magician was going to perform. Note that every performance has different magicians so you can come back again and you won't be seeing the same show you saw before. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see Rocco (my friend is an amateur magician and he says great things). My favorite act was actually the young illusionary magician who performed last. Very charming and funny guy. The whole show is good for children and adults alike who are interested in some light hearted magic. I definitely recommend. Also, beware the seating options. I had an option to pay a couple more dollars from 69 to 79 dollars to upgrade to front row a VIP seat....... I thought it was like getting first class on a plane where there were more leg room and VIP stuff. IT IS NOT. I got a pull a pull up chair on the front row (the first two rows are pull up chairs) and I kid you not, I think I would have preferred the Premium seats for 69 dollars because they came with arm rests. Response to business owner: Thanks for clarifying since I didn't actually have the benefit of trying both of them. I guess the VIP seats do sound better now that you clarified it. read more

Awesome time at th show! When I called over the phone for the ticket, Michael was funny. I knew I would have a good time with this group of people. And then the host, Harrison was great!!! Magicians were amazing!!! I wish I could have sticked around longer. Woooohooooooo!!! I love them and will revisit them again for sure! My boyfriend's 10 year old also had a good time!!! 2 of the 3 magicians from the original lineup canceled due to last-minute gigs so we were left with Torkova, Todd Robbins, and John Graham. I missed Torkova because I was late, but I really enjoyed the last two acts. Todd Robbins is the "professor" at the Coney Island Sideshow so his act was very similar to Donny Vomit's. John Graham brought real magic and humor to the show which was really entertaining. During intermission, there were 3 close-up magic acts with Jamy Ian Swiss (the MC), Ali, and Prakash. read more

I came here for a change of scenery for the typical NYC night scene, it was soo much fun, and way better than I thought it would be. Before I went I thought I might get stuck in an audience full of kids, but that was not the case. As a matter of fact there was not a single kid there. The magicians were very entertaining and funny. I laughed more than I would at a typical comedy show, and was entertained by modern magic at the same time. No cheesy sawing a woman in half, or pulling a rabbit out of hat tricks. I also saw one of the best juggling acts ever. This show is composed of very talented, and entertaining performers. I definitely recommend seeing it at least once. read more

Monday Night Magic moved since I was last there; it is now walking distance west of Times Square on 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue in an Episcopal Church/Theater. Great show, as always. This time, because my son was raising his hand to participate in everything, I ended up being chosen to help with a juggler/unicycle rider act. This one act was less about magic and more about entertainment - it was GREAT. The three other professional magicians were phenomenal. This show is for all ages. My husband took me here on a surprise date. It was a full house with people of all ages including kids. This is a small theater, without the Las Vegas style special effects, but it is an excellent show. During admission they have two magicians in different parts of the lobby and you can take a break or join one of these mini shows. Matteus, a magician from Chile performed some excellent card tricks that still have me scratching my head. A great show for families, dates, or go on your own. I don't follow magic but I was well entertained. read more

Super fun! $40 isn't the cheapest show but this is solid entertainment and an awesome option if you can't afford a broadway show or want something different than a movie. I am a huge magic fan and we finally went and had the best time. The line up changes every week so check it out before to make see you know what you're getting (ours was very comedy oriented and also had a juggler). Small lobby but big theater. There weren't a lot of kids but the ones that were there were pretty annoying maybe they should have a separate show for kids. The show was great. I recommend sitting in the front rows if possible because the magicians walk off stage and interact with the audience. It was a Magical Night.My 4 teenage grandsons were glued to their Seats eyes wide open for the entire night.Hw cool is the audience participation with the magicians.I was onstage with Peter Samelsons slight of hand.The entire audience got the trick but me.During intermission they have up close side shows.Michael Chaut card tricked my grandson Josh and then bent my quarter in half(you owe me).The silent agic of Torkova was eerie and eccentric and the hand and eye control of Michael DuBois thrilled me,as I have always appreciated the skill of a juggler.I didn't mention the specific magic tricks that we are still wondering about that is for YOU to see.But if your lucky enough to have Harrison Greenbaum as the Master of Ceremonies you will augh your sides out.Run don't walk to Monday Night Magic. read more

I watched the 7th April performance and I was both in awe and in fits of uncontrollable laughter. The performances styles were varied and original- like nothing I had seen before. Was at Monday Night Magic Christmas night show what a treat. Every seat in the house is great and seeing the best Magicians in the world work up close is a treat. Right in the middle of the village with lots of food and drink all around for before or after the show.
