Mongo's Grill no longer offers a free meal for your Birthday which was the only reason anyone would eat at this place. It is so dirty in this restaurant, food all over the floor and the grill as absolutely disgusting. I didn't put corn in my bowl but some how got a bunch because of how much was stuck to those rods they use to cook the food. The person cooking the food just threw mine on some crusty food left from the last persons. read more

+.5 for service Went to Mongo's recently to celebrate my birthday, although since it wasn't on my actual birthday date I didn't qualify for the free meal. Regardless I've been to the one on McGillivray and enjoyed it, so I wanted to try here with friends. Similar system to McGillivray, overfill your bowl with food, add some sauce, and watch the chefs cook your creation and receive your food after. Don't expect much in terms of fine dining quality taste, but for about $18 that will fill you up for dinner I can't really complain. Service is excellent here. The place is a bit small and can get busy, so expect a wait during peak hours. read more

Our first time in Mongos Grill and zNot empressed. Yes, they insured grill was cleaned to stop cross contamination to fish, which I'm allergic to, bur much more improvements needed. Staff need to be trained better to take order from whole table, food was never hot( need a reheat), not ever felt welcome, bowls were to small to put all the food I wanted. I have been to this location before, and my most recent visit was on March 21, 2019. When our party of 4 arrived we were told that we had a 25 minute wait, so we told the hostess we would come back in 20 minutes, she confirmed that would be good. When we arrived back after 20 minutes, there was a line and no hostess. We waited 10 minutes, and the party ahead shrugged their shoulders and left. When the hostess came back she said we had a 15 minute wait at least, which we declined and were about to leave, when suddenly there was a table available. We did get seated finally. Other than the flying rice that hit me and my food while waiting for the grill, the rest of experience was as expected. This is where the experience got stressful for me, 4 times I was asked if there was a problem, and each time, I said I'd prefer to not discuss it, and that I'll contact the manager later. I was trying to ensure our party had a good time, and enjoy my son's birthday, I didn't want the confrontation. I paid my bill, tipped accordingly, and left. I didn't call the manager, because that would mean that I want to help them improve the situation, and since I'm not going back there, I really don't care if they improve. TLDR: Expect little, you won't be disappointed. read more

I've been to mongos more then enough times to say I enjoy their establishment. I usually get my bowl to go, however occasionally sit down. Fairly cheap, and if you know how to make your own bowl you get a ton of food. read more

Love this place. If you know how to properly put food in your bowl, you can get so much food out of it, you wouldn't be able to finish it. Have been there a couple times, and it is definitely a different experience, and its nothing but pleasure to watch the guys cook the food you gathered right in front of you. Food always turns out really good, and the fact that you make your bowl yourself makes the whole experience so much fun! Go there with your group of friends, I can guarantee you'll have a lot of fun, and will leave the place very full and satisfied. Price is decent, very affordable. While shopping in the Transcona area we decided to try this asian fast food restaurant. The concept is diners pick combo's meats, veggies, sauces, oils and spices and the staff will cook it up for you. I have been to a similar concept many, many years ago and the result wasn't favorable so I was a bit nervous. The choices are many so have a good look before loading items into your bowl. The outcome of both mine and my partner's meals was ok. My partner asked for rice to be mixed in with his stir-fry and this never happened. The place was packed, so there was a wait to get your items cooked. The floor was sticky and could see many dropped food items (dirty). My partner said he would go there again however I feel differently. read more

I'd been to Mongo's on Kenaston a few times since I've lived in Winnipeg. A few years ago, myself and my date left the restaurant feeling very ill, and we both proceeded to be sick for the remainder of the evening. Date ruined. I swore at that time that I would never go back. A few days ago, I had built up the courage to give them another try. This time, I was unimpressed by the mess right outside the restaurant door. Actually, it looked like someone else had been ill. This was not encouraging. I went in regardless, and was happy to find it was not very busy. Great! No long line ups. My party and I proceeded to fill our plates. I had forgotten how small the dishes were that we were to try to make a good meal in. I filled my plate carefully with one of the new combos suggested on the menu. It was somewhat of a miracle that I was able to do so without losing the entire meal while dodging other guests with overfilled plates on our way to the grill. While standing and waiting at the grill, I asked one of the grillers to add rice and some tortilla shells to go with my combo. He told me where to find the additional sauces that were to accompany my meal as well. Somehow, as this griller and I were discussing my meal, it seems the other grillers had managed to lose my combo! This was apparent as one hungry customer was happily walking away with her meal. She was stopped by a griller, and told she may have given her my meal. The griller then asked me to check the other customer's meal. Awkward! After a quick glance, I knew it was not mine. After watching the frantic grillers search the grill area and question each other as to what had happened to my meal, I reluctantly returned to my seat to find the other members of my party. While I sat with them and proceeded to watch them eat, the server came over to apologize several times. Unfortunately, I spent the remainder of the time with nothing more than a ginger ale. When my party was finished eating, it took a long time for them to recieve their bills. I wondered what the servers would be doing to keep them so busy, when the restaurant was hardly one third full, and we were required to serve ourselves all but our beverages. I didn't even get a refill! I was also very surprised to find that our server had charged me a full amount for my ginger ale. I walked out of the restaurant hungrier than when I went in, and three dollars poorer. Now THAT is the last time I go to Mongo's on Kenaston! read more

It is a somewhat unusual experience for a sitdown restaurant, where you go up and fill a bowl with various veggies, meats, sauces, and spices and have it stirfried right in front of you. You can add things like eggs, rice, and cheese to the mix while its being cooked, and you can put it in a wrap or a bowl. You can choose tons of different combinations so really the quality is very much in your hands. I've dined here many times, and there is usually a long line at peak times, so try to go outside peak eating periods. Its also all you can eat if you want, and it is great value. There is also a salad bar. The staff are usually very good and entertaining. Sometimes people make messes on the floor, spilling and overfilling their bowls, and the staff can't clean it up right away because there are a bunch of people standing in the way. It is one of my favorite restaurants, so I'd totally recommend at least giving it a try for lunch. read more
