Ok now so like 15 years living in Boston and I'm still coming here. Monica is seriously my favorite person and I'm privileged to be her friend. As such, I'm forever a loyal client. If I get my face waxed somewhere else (when she's on vacation), it's always a meh wax. If I get my hair cut somewhere else (if I'm too impulsive and go somewhere closer to where I live) , it's meh and overpriced. So I continue to come. My son also loves her and only wants her to cut his hair. Here are some hair transformations I've had within the last 2 years. The most recent was today - pink, purple, blue. Monica is patient with my crazy ideas especially since I can't make up my mind. But my hair always looks amazing. My husband and I went for our haircuts to Monica and Zelia for close to 4 years in Boston and we are fans! NEVER considered any other Boston hairdresser. Zelia has done an awesome job with my husband's hair (extremely thick and wavy) for years and he can't find hairdressers as good in DC. They are both lovely and fun to be around. They are also extremely good with keeping appointments and always accommodated us even when we changed appointment timings. Finally, we went to them even for our wedding day hair styling and had a great time! Monica has been great with all my waxing needs. She has very good technique and is hygienic. Monica is the best place in Boston to get waxed! I learned about Monica from my boyfriend who got a great hair cut from her and I figured I couldn't pass up a $30 bikini wax so close to my apartment. I was not disappointed. Monica is extremely thorough and also very fast. I have never spent more than 20 minutes in her salon and that's for a full brazilian. She starts with the parts that hurt most so that by the end of it you're thinking, "Well that wasn't such a big deal." The people who have given Monica bad reviews need to realize that her salon is a very small business. Hi there, In my past experiences I have been to Monica's salon for 2 years. I am only commenting with the waxing and the Brazilian wax for all my lady friends that are interested. 1. Very clean and hygienic in the room that you would be in. 2.Very professional especially Monica and Veronica, if you are nervous they will try to calm your nerves by talking to you OR you can be like me and just bite the bullet but remember to breath. (Tip is scrub the places on your body that is needed to be waxed, you don't want ingrown hair, do you?) 3. Price? Do I have to say more, $30 for a Brazilian wax and $10 or under for eye brows or underarm. Holla! lol 4. Convenient take the bus 57 from Kenmore or take the green line. Monica, the owner is fast, efficient and very professional. Over two years ago I decided to get some highlights but I was so afraid to be too blonde, but Monica did a perfect job, she creates a very natural look and gained my fully trust. After that, she is the only one who touches my hair. Well, i set up a 1230 for a pedicure and they only do it on Saturdays out of the entire week. I get there 10 or 5 minutes early and she is there with a client and I could not see whether she was finishing it up or not. She just took the client -- she was working on her forever, so after 15 minutes of waiting and the woman did not even start painting her nails, i left. The salon was loud, they were all talking so obnoxiously to each other that I could not stand to even wait. The pedicure is $18 and surely, it's cheap. But the woman who does it comes only once a week and she brings a little tub with her for the feet and some instruments. Trust me, for $20 (!!! just $2 more), you can get an amazing pedicure in a professional atmosphere on a massage chair at Julie's Nails (just down the street, 444 Harvard St, Brookline by Anna's Taqueria). Went for a Brazilian and was horrified. My waxer was efficient, but she double dipped the whole time. That is completely unsanitary and unacceptable. She also did not wear gloves. She did do a decent job, but I would prefer having some peace of mind after such an intimate wax. It was also dreadfully awkward! I have had my hair cut 2 times here and both times I have been EXTREMELY happy with the cut! I have very very loooong straight hair (I'm asian) and both times I asked for around 4 inches cut off, layered and angled. I don't know how many women actually work there, but both women did a superb job. They are very friendly and sweet, and they always ask before they make the first cut if it is the exact length you want. They are a spanish and english speaking facility, and also offer a million other things from waxing to pedicures. The best part? The price! I used to get my hair highlighted and cut on Newbury street, and when my stylist moved to LA I tried a few salons in Boston. Monica's was recommended to me by a friend and I have made it my regular salon. I have very thick hair but like it straight and it is a "reddish" color, so I have found that getting it highlighted and cut properly has been a challenge for my hair stylists- however Monica has done the BEST blowout I have seen in 20 years of going to the best salons, she is able to do things with the brush and dryer that usually can only be done with a hot iron. She also does great color and a cut. Price is good - about average I would say for a color and cut but she does highlights all over, defiantly does not skimp on the foils. I get many compliments on my hair color. I wouldn't even go anywhere else. Also Monica's recommendations for hair products have become staple in my house. I can not use any other conditioner than the one she gave me and I had my mom try it she only buys the same one ( and my mom spends way too much on her hair products- she has tried everything ) . I have the craziest hours and I live so far from the city and every time I call her trying to get an appt she is always willing to help me out. Plus she is excellent in everything she does. At first I liked it cause they did my hair really nice, but this lady that cut my hair is not that nice. after the first time, I was going to make an appointment and Monica just says: No, I can't cut your hair at this time (saturday, 2pm, when they still have service).
