To be honest she is very talented(Last year she did a fantastic work on my hair; that's why I wanted to come back) on the work she does, nothing is going to take that away, BUT it's s wrong to feel entitled or to not take seriously your customers time. I wanted to have a color work for my birthday so I took the time and book in advance to be ready, and so it came the FIRST text cancellation on my Saturday 9am appointment like an 1 hour before, she said she had a cough... I understood, and thank goodness I had more time, so she asked to reschedule and I did, well, guess what, once again she texted just 2 hours before my Saturday appointment that AGAIN she woke up with a cough. I am attaching the screenshots and let the customers decide whether this is unprofessional or not. Although I do like her work never again will I go back.

I love my hair! I had permanent brown hair dye previously and she was able to get me to a beautiful ash blonde. I had always went from brown to blonde, back to brown and so on. so I always know that my goal blonde hair will take 2 sessions. She was also able to recommend great products to maintain my hair. Monica was very nice and outgoing. 10/10

I was stood up on my appointment day!! Felt like a scene out of a nightmare.

I truly don't even know where to begin with how dissatisfied and angry I am with this hair studio. I reached out to Monica via Instagram and text message on May 28th. I didn't hear back from her till June 22nd. I had already booked with another stylist but had to cancel due to a last minute upcoming trip, so I decided to go forth with Monica in hopes she'd be available before my trip. She answered a couple of my questions and let me know she was available for the days I was interested in. She said she would get back to me that night with a time--never heard back that night. Simultaneously I realized she posted an Instagram story about upcoming availability dates and so I messaged her again letting her know the day and time I wanted. She replied asking for my name and number, which I processed to giving her. I didn't hear back with a confirmation till this day. I actually went to her studio on my "appointment" day since it's nearby-- and there was NO ONE there. On a weekday. In the afternoon. I've called and messaged multiple times and radio silence. I've never in my life witnessed a business run soooo pooorly and lack tremendously in communication and customer service. It's honestly a shame because her work online looks great, but I'm definitely never trying to make an appointment here again and warning anyone who's serious about getting their hair done here. Monica-if you're reading this- I don't know you and so this isn't personal but when you have a business in the heart of old town and a good following on social media, there's a standard you must uphold. Regardless of what you're going through, customers are expecting what you promise to offer. I wish you well in your business because according to some reviews this wasn't a one time occurrence and it appears you have yet to master the reigns of running your own business. You've clearly taken in more than you can handle. Good luck.

I started following Monica on Instagram in November 2019. I knew I wanted her to do my hair ever since, I then entered her "E-Girl" hair contest in summer of 2020 and I won and was able to get this service for free of course! Here is the before and after for that and then the next services I got. I had a high lift dye from another salon that was absolutely atrocious and I talked to Monica about my end goal being a light purple blue-ish color and she told me I would need 2 foilayage sessions to achieve my goal and that's what we did. We did the color the second session, you can see my blonde in the pics from the first and second sessions. I love going to Monica, she's super nice and she's accommodating to her guests and she does a great job every time. I was having a time constraint for my vivid foilayage session and I texted her the day of, and she told me to come in earlier to accommodate me. I have recommended her to all of my friends and they've all left the salon with their hair looking just like their inspo pictures. Her pricing is also very good for the area. She also provides snacks and refreshments if you would like some. She is young and she is learning more about owning a business everyday. I couldn't imagine dealing with the stress she does owning her own business at 23. Her salon is so cute and she sanitizes each seat and area before every client so it makes me feel safe about COVID. She's amazing and I love having her as my stylist! For my hair having gone through two rounds of foilayage it feels so healthy there has been very minimal breakage. She told me the steps on how to take care of my hair to keep it soft and healthy. It's still super soft and healthy and I can't wait for my next appointment in May when I have to go blonde again for graduation.

I was incredibly disappointed by my experience here, especially considering the $350+ I paid for the cut and color. I had to come to the salon three different times in order to fix mistakes done by the stylists, and was told there is a strict no refund policy despite never signing anything agreeing to it. Visit 1 - I asked for a balayage with pops of brighter blonde, ultimately blended and seamless to be able to grow it out in the coming months. The front pieces ended up being very drastic compared to the rest of my hair, so Moni kindly offered for me to come back to have them toned down if I still felt this way the next day. Once I got home and played with my hair a bit, I saw tons of very harsh lines of demarcation throughout my hair and was shocked. Visit 2 - When I showed Moni the problem areas the next day, she said this was a mistake by her assistant and she would talk with her about this and fix me up. The front pieces were toned down really nicely and I assumed the rest was blended out and taken care of. Again, as I got home and was able to look more closely, there were still harsh lines throughout the under-layers of my hair. At this point, I'm very frustrated and reached out to Moni asking for some kind of refund for these ongoing mistakes. This is when I was told about the no refund policy and was asked to come back in to fix it (again) and was offered a tiny Olaplex product for my troubles - which communicated that these mistakes and my many inconveniences were worth approx. $20 at the end of the day. Visit 3 - Moni immediately passes me to her assistant to fix my hair again. This was confusing considering she said her assistant was the one who messed up the first time. Once I'm getting blow dried, Moni asks if I can just get a rough dry since she has other clients and only two blow dryers. When she comes in next to quickly piece through my damp hair to check the work, she mentions something over the blow dryer like "...want you to check after since you have hot vision", as if the mistakes being fixed were due to my pickiness/preference. At this point, it's clear that I'm not being treated as if my time, money, and patience is of any value. So so disappointed. I'm very regretful to have spent my money here. There are plenty of other salons that can do a better job, especially for the cost. Highly recommend looking elsewhere.

Does it look like $270 hair service to you guys?
    Leslie C.

First, does it look like a $270 hair service to you guys! It looks like a cheap old balayage/hair dyed box! She did say my hair has somewhat warmth tone due to my old color but she didnt say I need 2 sessions in order to achieve the color I wanted before we started. All she said was she would try to see how light my hair would be! The only time that she mentioned about 2 sessions was when she washed my hair. She didn't give me options to choose from, she TOLD me like I had no choice. If I knew my hair would look like this I should have gone with darker tone! And even my hair needs 2 sessions, my hair shouldnt look brassy like this!

I've been to Moni's hair studio before and I've been dying to go back to get my hair done but because of the pandemic, I had to wait an extra 4 months. Monica is seriously the SWEETEST girl alive! I trust her with my eyes closed! She's such an easy going person, and super cool to talk to. I love it when she gives me advice on how to take better care of my hair. I highly highly highly recommend her! Don't trust the negative reviews! Give her a chance and you will not be disappointed. I'll forever be a client!

    Proof.

If I can give zero stars, I would. I been a loyal client when I first decided to go to her salon back in April 2019, I dyed my hair with her for about 2 years. I never dyed my hair and looking at her social media, she did a beautiful job on blonde hair which I decided to go blonde with her only. Anyways, I called her salon phone on Thursday September 9, 2021 and asked her is it possible if I can come in a little earlier on my scheduled appointment which was September 15, 2021 at 9am. I also emailed her 2 days before I made this phone call due to starting a new job which was at 1pm that day. I let Monica know that I will let her know later on in the day if I can speak with my manager at my job to ok me coming in later, which my manager did ok it. I later sent her a text message later that day on her WORK PHONE saying I would be ABLE to come in for my appointment. Anyways, I walked into her salon on September 15 and find out she never canceled my appointment, only to delete the reservation and replace my appointment with another client's without letting me know. She insisted if I can come in another day when I specifically asked my manager if I can take off this day Sept 15th while I was on her SALON CHAIR SITTING READY TO GET MY HAIR DONE. She asked the other client but client had to travel afterwards. Monica, you're suppose to let your clients know that you canceled their appointment and not assume that they want to cancel. I asked you 1 simple question and you assume I decide to cancel my appointment which I NEVER stated. Do better. Don't act like you're so confused when another client walks in 5 minutes later saying she has an appointment same time and day I did, as if I never made the appointment, I did make the appointment. I have pictures attached about everything including the appointment. Just say you deleted the reservation cause that's exactly what you did, didn't even bother to confirm about "cancelling" the reservation. I messaged you on instagram the last time you did my hair as well. You burned my forehead with the straightener the last time I came to you, I never even at least got an apology for it. You never follow up with your clients who spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars for your work. I tried emailing you, calling the salon phone, dm via instagram, send a text message on your personal phone and I get no replies from any contacts. I recommended you to my friends as well years ago. I wanted to see your business grow with your amazing talent, but I will never recommend or go to you ever again. I was more than patient but this just struck the line for me. For any client who wants to go to her, just beware. She won't contact you in time or probably not ever. No matter which way will be the best way to contact. I tried everything. Work on your professionalism and contact your clients back in a timely manner. You even posted on your Instagram about stating how your work doesn't take any shorter than "4+" hours and saying how clients said your work is expensive. All I asked you was how much would it be for the service. Even if it was never about me I just wanted to let you know that I only asked a question regarding your prices. I never interfered about your prices and I love how you posted about it the day and time of my appointment. Even if it wasn't about me I just found it very coincidental. Anyways, good luck to any client who decides to get serviced by her. UPDATE: she blocked my phone number on her salon phone cause she knows she f'd up. UNPROFESSIONAL.

To be fair, the gel pedicure absolutely met expectations. Andy did an amazing job with my pedicure -- he took care of my ingrown nails, the French tip line work was sharp and clean, and overall I felt he deserved the tip I left him because I truly needed that level of care and attention. Unfortunately, my Gel-X full set was a completely different experience. I originally requested almond French tips. Andy then suggested with my nail bed stiletto would be best. Andy did beautiful line work on 7 out of the 10 nails, but halfway through the service he ran out of the stiletto tips and used coffin tips for the remaining 3 nails, saying he would shape them to match the others. I brought up my concerns multiple times throughout the appointment because the process already seemed off to me, but he continued reassuring me that everything would look the same in the end. The problem is -- they didn't. Those 3 nails ended up bulky, wide, and visibly different from the others. I also found it odd that my nails and cuticles were not properly prepped beforehand, and the replacement tips were glued further up the nail bed instead of properly seated at the base like traditional Gel-X application. By the end of the appointment, I still voiced concern about how bulky the nails looked, but unfortunately I was actively working remotely and had urgent matters to return to, so I paid the $153 total $80 of that for my Gel-X full set including $10 tip and left hoping it just needed minor adjustments. After work, I called the salon and explained the issue. The receptionist scheduled me for a correction appointment the next morning at 10 AM and confirmed it would be free of charge. On 5/21/26, I arrived at opening time, though staff did not arrive until about 10:05 AM. Tracy and another employee inspected the nails and decided they only needed reshaping, despite me clearly explaining that the issue was not just the shape -- it was the bulkiness and placement. One employee even commented that I "should have said something yesterday," which was frustrating considering I had already voiced my concerns multiple times during the original appointment. To Tracy's credit, she did acknowledge that I had in fact spoken up. I could tell Tracy did not want to fix someone else's work, which honestly I understand. That responsibility should have fallen on management or ownership to properly resolve by having the original nail tech correct the issue. Instead, the fix felt rushed and dismissive. Tracy continued filing the nails despite me repeatedly stating they still looked uneven and off. At that point, I didn't want to argue further or create a scene, so I let her finish. Unfortunately, one nail on my left hand ended up looking even worse afterward, and the French tip line work became sloppy and uneven. This experience was disappointing because I really wanted to love this salon after hearing such positive recommendations. Their pedicure services absolutely deserve praise, and I will likely return for pedicures. However, I cannot recommend Gel-X full sets here unless you have the time and energy to closely monitor every step, repeatedly advocate for yourself, and stop the service the moment something feels wrong. I would much rather a salon simply tell me they do not have the proper supplies to complete a service correctly than improvise and still charge full price for incomplete or inconsistent work. The pedicure earned my trust, but the nails -- and especially the customer service during the correction appointment -- turned what could have been a minor mistake into an overall disappointing experience.

She is a master colorist, stays up-to-date on industry trends & techniques and is an all around lovely person. My tip: Make your appointments well in advance. I schedule mine up to a year out. She's highly in demand (that's what I want in a stylist!) and weekends fill up fast. Original review (2016): Sue Scott is amazing with hair, both color and styling. She gave me a balayage of caramel and mocha colors and I've never been so happy with getting color. Then I showed her images of 40s style curls that I'd been trying to accomplish at home. She gave me a great tutorial as she styled my hair, and I though this really went the extra mile. I've been able to replicate it at home, which is what I think we all want to be able to do after we leave the salon. I also felt like Sue really listened to what I wanted. I like to have flexibility to air dry (natural waves), straighten or curl and wanted a cut that would be versatile. I've tried all three since I got my cut last week and I'm very pleased with the results. In the salon, she's really easy to talk to and has a really positive attitude. I think the best way to get an idea of someone's work is to see it. Sue posts almost daily to her Instagram (@wispsalonalexandria), so if you are trying to make a decision on if her style would work for you, this is a good place to start. She also uses online appointment booking, which I prefer. Highly recommend!
