I started going to Moni's about a month ago and love it there. Very friendly wait staff and the pool tables and dartboards are great.

Me and my friend just wanted to play a quick game of pool. We paid 1.00 for the game and started to play. The white ball went in the pocket a few times and we noticed the ball did not return. When he asked the bartender to come over and retrieve the ball he said he would be right over. When the gentleman came over he was very rude letting us know that we had to buy something and can't just come in and play without buying something. How do you think this place is ran he said something along those lines.. it was just UNCALLED FOR! He refused to give us the white ball, he could have had the conversation more professional. This was my first time here and that turned me off. I would never return again to support them. How about next time you say hey not sure if this is your first time here but we do ask that you spend money at the bar. It's all in the way you speak to people. I did see a sign but I thought it was if you were at the table . The place is out dated and did not have customers in the establishment. No one even came over to ask if we wanted anything. Won't take your ID if you're 21 even if you're and have a vertical license still, which was the case with my friend. If the bartender knew the laws (which he told me to look up and was still incorrect after proven wrong) then there would've been no issue. Potential to be a good little dive bar when the air and taps are working. Juke box, pool tables... Bartenders "Curly" and Kim have HUGE chips on their shoulders and very bad attitudes to an extreme, and ruthless verbal abuse towards people of color. Be ware. They will kill the vibe and atmosphere ASAP. I have seen it too may times. Lemme begin by saying your bartenders are great!!!!!! the M.C. is shite!!!!! Open mic night expectations: Wait for 2 hours. Only to have a band member tell you "its not over you're next after this comedian" My experience in professional open mic night: There is an M.C. present introducing every performer, and setting and abiding time limits to ensure everyone gets time... (NOT THE CASE TONIGHT) Instead I watch patiently while a "comedian" bombs for 20 min before I see another open mic performer poaching the stage. I stand up and ask Steve the "comedian" how much longer... says 2 more jokes... So I wait patiently. Just as I'm about to go on the "M.C." shows up outta nowhere! Granted, haven't seen him literally the WHOLE 3.5 HOURS I WAS THERE!!!! ANYWHO, he shows up after I already did his job for him, rudely, and disrespectfully shoos me off the stage... saying hes had talent patiently waiting... WHY?!!! Why didn't you intervene? If they are SO talented and respected... why not get them in there?? Bc YOU don't care! Sorry you've had more talented people waiting! Maybe you should be a good M.C. and actively intercept bad performances; or better yet put a time limit so you don't have to since you clearly don't have the balls Instead the sweet, older, Asian dude who played in my place was disrespected by the "M.C." who didn't save his spot, nor make his performance in anyway special. Great "hole in the wall" / "sports bar" in the Crofton Md area. Hopefully Moni's place doesn't take offense to me categorizing them as a hole in the wall bar, I think it's what makes it a great place to have drinks, enjoy some "bar food", play pool/darts, watch sports and hang out with friendly people. For all of you that want to question my 5 starts, please remember that I'm grading it for what i think it is, not against some sort of franchise or upscale establishment. In my opinion, it deserves 5 stars for what makes it great. I found Moni's when I contacted the APA pool league and asked if any teams were in need of a player. APA provided me with a few options but Moni's jumped out at me because of its location and the fact that it's not a traveling pool league. When I walked into the bar I met two amazing bar tenders Kyle and Curley. Like other posts on yelp, these two can make a normal night at the bar very entertaining. What sets them apart for me is that both of them remembered my name and my drink of choice, along with other newbies to the bar. Both are very approachable and usually know when you need a drink before you do. The other bartenders are amazing and it kills me that their names slip my mind while writing this. (i suck at remembering names). All of them seem to be extremely intelligent, and if you doubt my statement just go to the bar early and if they happen to be watching jeopardy on TV you will be amazed at the amount of questions they can answer. I've been playing pool at Moni's for about 6 weeks now and when I walk in the door I'm greeted with polite conversation and a cold drink waiting for me before I even ask for one. Now that I've given the bartenders the recognition they deserve, let me tell you the other think that makes this place fun. The locals. Yes, you have to give the people who call Moni's their "go to bar" credit. They're approachable, fun to hang out with, and sometimes you'll find out that your drink has been paid for just to welcome you to the bar or maybe because they bought a round for people. Don't be surprised if a shot shows up in front of you, just say thank you and take it, or pass it on to someone else if for any reason you can't participate. The other thing that makes the local patrons fun is their long relationship with the bartenders. You quickly get a sense of "family and friends" listening to them talk about cars, house repair, sports, etc. The last positive thing I will mention is watching sports at with the bartenders and patrons. Everyone is passionate about their teams, but they don't judge or start arguments if you happen to be on the other side. I should know, I'm an Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies fan. Pool League takes place on Thursday nights and I have to say I'm very happy that I chose this bar to join APA. Everyone enjoys the game, enjoys the competition, and most of all everyone enjoys the camaraderie among the teams. Sundays are a great time to play pool (for free, yes FREE) with APA players and drop ins. Dart boards are available and you can usually find someone in the bar who will gladly play if you want some competition, or just someone to play against. I'm a firm believer that no one, or no business is perfect so I have to make a suggestion. I find myself a little bit of a "double edged sword" seeing that my suggestion could impact the hole in the wall feel, so I wouldn't mind if my suggestion isn't implemented. Remodel or make some updates. Sometimes I look around and wonder what the place would be like if they made some changes or upgrades, but I wouldn't want them to lose the hole in the wall aspect. in closing, give the place a try. I suggest visiting Thursday night. Grab a drink, watch some amazing players go head to head at pool, and enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Moni's is a great local spot. It's definitely a "dive bar" but one of the best ones you will ever go to. The bartenders are kind and friendly. They know your name shortly after you start coming there, as well as your go to drink. Additionally, the open mic is amazing! The MC is professional, friendly and kind. He goes out of his way to introduce himself to new people, accommodates everyone and works well with people who need extra time. He deals with stressful situations, including random chicks jumping up, after making up their own timeline, jumping up and talking poorly about previous acts. He's always present and supportive. He's literally the best. I would highly recommend this venue. read more

I come here for the old Bay wings they're my fav. I could eat at least 100 of them (I'm exaggerating) but they're good. It's pretty much your regular neighborhood bar always crowded on the weekends, good beer specials, pool tables and dartboards and an open mic night which I think is on Fridays. Lots of locals meet up here after work on weekdays and weekends as well. read more

It is a pretty laid back spot to play pool and darts. There aren't many pool tables, but the place was empty, so we are able to walk right in to a table. The drinks were good, but we didn't order any food. This isn't a place where you go to eat dinner to me, it's just a low-key spot to hang out for a few. read more

I first heard of Monis from someone that I play pool with, When I found out that they had free pool on Sundays I not only became a regular, but I told multiple people about it and we would meet up there as a group. The menu is nothing to write home about but I still ordered food to support the establishment until I realized the same person that would come out to play pool with me on occasion was the same person that prepared the food and this person never seemed to wash his hands in between the transition. Still, I liked the people that were there so I bought drinks and never wrote a review because I didn't want to discourage anyone from attending.... Until now! What changed?? A lot...Since Jack Frost has hit, I haven't been ordering drinks right away. My routine has become to go into the spot, warm up and figure out what I want to drink and after about40 minutes or so, I order my first drink and usually 1 to 2 more drinks as the night goes on. I usually try to spend between $20 - $30 including tip. I mention this because it's a $10 limit to play pool for free. This past Sunday I went in there with my same routine.... I put a few dollars into the jukebox, called next on the pool table and waited for my turn to play pool. They had a new person preparing food so I wanted to watch and see what the sanitary procedures were for preparing food. After I saw this person using their cell phone, mopping the floor and then preparing food without ever turning on the sink to wash their hands, I decided I was going to stick with the drinks. About 20 minutes into playing pool, about 10 young guys and a couple women walked into the place with pool sticks. I was waiting for them to ask to shoot with us and eventually they did. We decided to play doubles... we were about to rack the balls and the bartender walked up to me and said to me and my friends that we had to leave. Lol... I thought he was joking so I kind of laughed it off but he was serious. I asked him why and he said we had to spend money to play pool. I shrugged it off and said "I always buy drinks when I am here... you know me, I come here almost on a weekly basis and have always spent money in the past. I just got here about 30 minutes ago and was going to buy drinks after I warmed up...You want me to buy something, come on... I will buy something." His reply was it was too late and we had to leave. One of my friends showed him that he had a drink and even could have showed him a receipt where he bought several beers. That got him off the hook.... The guy then went over to another table and pushed all the balls in the pocket and said you have to leave prior to ever accusing the patrons of anything. This table had two elderly people playing. Pops which is about 70 year old man pleaded with the guy and said he bought chicken wings and a coke from the lady bartender.... A gentleman that witnessed it agreed that Pops bought food earlier. The bouncer/bartender said that he has been there for 4 hours and hasn't seen any of us order anything and we have to leave. Pops and his friend tried to plead their case and the bartender had some very rude responses and ultimately told him to plead his case from outside the place. Again, I walked up to the bartender and told him that what he was doing was bad business. He should come up to us and tell us the protocol for the establishment and tell us that we need to order something in order to continue to play pool. His response was we have been here before and should know that already. The good side of this was we had plenty of patrons that vouched for us and agreed that we spend money there. My friends and I thought that this would be a great place to play pool, we were wrong. A couple seconds after we entered the front door, there was a loud whining which came from a fat man. Apparently there was a problem with our skin color, as he was pointing to us in a indignant fashion. We are assuming that he worked there, but if not, the damage has been done. This occurred as soon as we entered, and there's no doubt about it , everyone was staring and didn't say anything to resolve the situation or do the right thing. There's no way that we would tolerate this behavior from an employee or a patron without a manager stepping out. so we left. And no one wanted to spend $10 each to play pool. read more

I've been twice now in these past two weeks; I believe the staff I've peesonally encountered we're named Curley, Neptune, Kyle,Travis, and Kim I believe her name was. The drinks were dirt cheap and had helpful/efficient service. However the Food blew me away in terms of my expectations of bar food. I ordered a pizza on my first visit and it was incredible! Great quality and was reasonable quick, when I was almost done a young gentlemen asked me on how I was enjoying my food and seemed genuinely invested on how my experience was which I replied that the pizza was fantastic and he humbly offered me a to go box whilst cleaning the trash and finished drinks on our table. His name was Travis made a very good first impressed. Yesterday night I ordered a "Smash Dog" with fries plus a Quesadilla in which I split with a friends of mine and it was probably the best Hot dog in which I can EVER recall eating and fellow companions were quite pleased with their food as well, towards the end I noticed Travis was again there for the night in which I attribute him with two VERY pleasing eating experiences and bee was just as kind as before. Kim and Neptune did a good job as well with quick delicious drinks, Will definitely be coming back ASAP!! read more

I have been to Moni's several times. It is a low key place to play pool, the juke box or hang out. It is nothing to write home about, but I have always had a fine time there. One criticism I would make is that they need more imports and IPA's. I have always found the staff to be friendly. read more

I had a similar experience as Reviewer R.C. When i went in It was pay to play pool 1.00 a game...ok no biggie, My girlfriend and I put our 1.00 in and racked the balls almost immediately someone came over and interrupted us and said we have to buy food from the bar to play, we were not hungry so we both got a coke, We were approached again before we even finished our drinks I explained we were not hungry, did not come here to eat, and we haven't even finished our coke yet, he wanted us to buy alcohol, I explained we do not drink we just came to have a good time and we will buy coke's as we play. he said he is not running a pool hall and does not want people hanging out to play pool, we finished our game and i have not been back since and never will!!! If i am paying 1.00 a game he is making money, If i am buying soft drinks he is making money, It just came off as rude and I felt like he was just trying to squeeze every dollar he can out of us, Ridiculous!! My father owned 18 bar's and pool halls in florida, so having knowledge of the business i do not see any reason to treat the customers like this! read more
