I have slowed down since then but still do some chair caning. To that end , I purchased 1 bunch of narrow medium cane Sept 2012 order # 358559. Price with shipping was $43.70. The cane was not the usual good quality I was used to from your store. Many strands were unusable & all had the black break mark. I called about it & talked to Ray the owner. That's what I was told. He said he could not discount that order, but would give me a discount on my next order. I just got my next order dated 9/28 Inv 752360, acct # 012696. I explained to the salesperson what Ray had told me about a discount. The cost was not discounted & actually went up $47.90. (same cane) I know times are not the same now as back in the 80's, but I do expect to be able to take HH Perkins at their word. Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. R Hull

My friend Mindy and I visited during the Christmas season, and the store was beautifully decorated -- festive without feeling overdone. The candles were a huge highlight. They make their own, and they smell amazing. There's a great variety, and it's honestly hard to leave without picking up at least one. The owner, Robert, was incredibly kind and took the time to chat with us. He and his wife own the shop together, and you can really feel the care they've put into it. Beyond candles, they have a really nice mix of home décor, cards, and adorable kids' clothing, especially for the holidays. Overall, I really enjoyed my time there. It feels like one of those local shops you want to support and keep coming back to. Definitely looking forward to another visit.

LOCATION: The shop is located in an independent cement block building along Southbury's main thoroughfare. CONCEPT: The owner is apparently looking to bring spirit of Alaska, her childhood home, to Connecticut, her current home. There are a few items from Alaska, many more referencing Alaska or perceived as representing Alaska (such as love of coffee and fishing). SELECTION: As I walked around the shop I was mentally trying to make sense of the concept, as with each turn around a shelf there was a new collection of items on display. Among the collections I saw, there were a variety of seeds, dog collars, coffee mugs, tee shirts, fishing lures, and coffee. I left with the notion that the shop might fill a gap in Southbury by being a destination for men to shop for outdoor items and gifts.
