As I was driving one day my break light came on. I checked the break fluid the fluid was good. I made sure my emergency brake. I was concerned my break lining may need replaced. I stopped in at a local chain auto center. After a short wait they checked my car. The man came back told me that my break lining needed to be flushed, my break lining needed to be replaced and my rotors were bad. He said they can set up an appointment the next day. I asked the cost he told me it would be around 1,000 - 1,200 I left and later that day I stopped at another place they checked my car came back this time my car needed a part that had to be ordered. I ask what was broken he showed me of the part. The cost the work the same as the other place. A few days later I took my car to Monroe I asked if they could check out my car. My friend picked me up we went for lunch. After about an hour I got a call my car was ready. Of course I was expecting the same as the other places. When I arrived the manager came out and talked to me. My breaks were find. The reason the light was on the floater gage that lets you know if your fluid is low was stuck. He poured a small amount of break fluid and it was fine. My break lining was good as well as my rotors good enough to even pass inspection. I asked about the broken part that needed replaced. The manager and his employees all had my car on the lift and there is nothing broken. I asked what I owe for all the time they took to check out my car. The manager said there's no charge for a tablespoon of break fluid. My car is running fine no break light on. I'm going back to have it inspected. I made an appointment to have some tires installed. When I arrived on time to my appointment, I was told it would be a few hours. I couldn't wait that long and i couldn't leave my car either. I asked what time I could return and have the job done and was told 4 hours later. I returned at that time and still waited over half an hour for anyone to start on my car. At no time did anyone offer an apology or attempt an explanation. Luckily for me I had time that day but don't usually. Overall very poor customer service. read more

I have left positive reviews for this facility in the past and this is the very first negative review I have ever left for any establishment; at this point it is warranted. I don't know if they are under new management or what has happened but everything I have enjoyed about this store in the past has been negated. I thought they were honest and didn't tell me things needed to be fixed when they didn't. After my son's inspection last month was going to cost over $4000, we got a second opinion and that was proven wrong. I thought they had competitive prices. Nope, they were out-priced for tires, brake pads, and rotors. I thought they valued my time. Wrong again. I made an appointment for my last oil change and 3 walk-ins were in and out before my car was finished. I am very disappointed in the downfall of this establishment. AVOID at all costs. Got my car inspected here. Seemed simple enough. Went to change the tire a few weeks later... the bolt sheared off, meaning the post was also broken. The lugnuts were so tightly attached, that the post was stuck all the way inside of the bolt/lugnut. Tried another bolt and the same thing happened. And this was when attempting to removing the bolt MANUALLY. We immediately contacted Monro to advise them as we needed this addressed right away. With two bolts off car was possibly unsafe to drive. Nevermind how many more bolts were in this condition (also meaning high stress in turns could shear off also shear off the bolts) When we called the supervisor was very unhelpful, and down right rude. They insisted that impact guns were not used to put bolts on the car. But there was no way that this could have happened if they were placed on manually. They couldnt see us that day. And suggested that this was an issue with the car manufacturer. We asked to speak to his supervisor, and he flippantly said he's the only supervisor there. After looking online, I ended up seeing several reviews for this location with similarly negligent / dangerous issues. AND when we called around for replacement parts to fix this issue ourselves, the parts person said they had the same issue and had a sheared bolt on their car from the same Monroe location. Wish I would have read the reviews online first. Btw, the bolts were also cross threaded and the one post that didnt break, you can see that it was severely stripped. This had to be the result of them using an impact gun to put the bolts back on. Which should never be done. read more

Went in for a flat fix, ended up needing rotors and brake pads. It was all done within an hour, and I had very good communication with the manager, James Zehall. He took me into the shop to assure me my brake pads were in need of being replaced. He even took of the flat fix off the bill. Great service, reasonable prices. read more

Do not go to this place. It is a scam. At one time, I took my car here for all inspections and repairs. Now I wouldn't drive by it to flip them off. The last time I took my car there, I needed new serpentine belts. This repair was expensive enough but when they were changing them, they broke a crank pulley. They added 300 to my bill to replace this and told me it would have broken regardless of who performed the work. I paid the bill, then asked several local service stations if the broken crank pulley was natural or was it due to neglect on their part. All said there was no way this should have happened and one service station offered to provide me with a written statement. I contacted the regional manager for Monroe and explained the situation. He offered to refund the money for the crank pulley. I never heard from him again. Calls and emails were not answered. The last time I had them perform an inspection, they stated that this was the last time they would inspect it w/o the shocks and struts being replaced because "they were close to the end". That was six years ago. No other service station has ever mentioned my shocks and struts. Hmm, imagine that. read more

This review is for the Kuhn Drive location in Hanover, PA. Called to make an appointment for a vehicle inspection and was able to get in within a day or two. The desk manager was very kind and helpful, as were the mechanics. They did not run up the price with unneeded repairs, or try to talk us into other things. They noted two minor items, just for our knowledge, but in no way tried to get our business or insist that those two things needed doing anytime soon. They were honest about the car, and we walked out paying only the low inspection fee and not a penny more (and this was on a 17 year old car, which they easily could have claimed needed a few things). This happened at the Monroe Muffler/Brake Service located at 5 Kuhn Drive Hanover, PA 17331. The store manager is Preston L. Bowers, Jr. I called this location on Friday asking about pricing for a front-end alignment. Preston, the manager told me the price was on special for $71.99. I thought that the price was high soI researched other stores and found every store cheaper than their price for the same alignment service. I went online to http://www.monro.com/promotions-coupons and found a 20% off coupon that would have saved us $14.40 and based on the quoted price of $71.99 that would have made our final cost $57.59. When we showed up to pick up our vehicle, we presented the coupon for 20% off and the assistant manager, Anthony Heindl Jr. rang us up and said we owed $71.99. He said the quoted price already included the 20% off coupon. I wasn't told by Preston that their price was $89.99 (which I would NEVER have paid) minus a coupon to bring the price to $71.99. (Which I would NEVER have paid either) I made my decision to take my vehicle there based on the 20% off of the $71.99. Preston came out and talked to me and basically called me a liar and said he told me the price was a managers special, which he did, but he never told me it included a 20% off coupon. I know Preston had the autonomy (or at least should have) to make it right for us and give me the $14.40 but he didn't. He just stood there argued with my wife and myself with 2 other customers in the store. I will never go back to a Monroe Muffler/Brake & Service EVER. Took my car in for an inspection. By the time i got home 15 minutes later there was smoke coming from under the hood. When I opened the hood oil was spilled and the cap was missing. Checked the oil levels in the car and it was empty. Asked for a refund for inspection and was denied. Im lucky my engine was not ruined. Don't go here. read more

I wouldnt let this place work on my bicycle...I go here about 3 times a year for oil changes. I don't let this place touch my car for anything else. Everytime Im thrre I see a new mechanic. This place has no regularity with the technitions. so if you let them tune your car up which is what they tey to sell me everytime I'm there. When itsmessed up In 3 months and its running bad cause something was half assed. You'll get a new guy to fix the last new guys mess up and so on and I'm sure they will find some other reason why its not right and charge you $1000 dollars for it. I know this cause a neighbor of mine took her car there and it has been a nightmare ever since. My sugestion is find a real mechanic and use this place if you need a oil change. read more

This place used to be good place to go back when Preston was manager. Ever since he left, it just isn't the same. The new manager tries to give you the run around and end up charging you more then he said in the first place. I used to be the guy that always brought his car here, not no more. I've seen a lot of good mechanics go since I got my car worked on there and that alone should say something. This place is about the dollar sign not the customer.
