My mother was admitted at night and I passed on information as to what she was and wasn't capable of doing physically. That information wasn't passed on to the morning shift as evidenced by my walking into her room to find her sitting on the edge of the bed ready to topple over face first onto the floor and a spoon sitting in applesauce on a tray nearby which she couldn't use because of her weak state. No staff was in the room at the time. When an aide did arrive and was confronted, her response was "I didn't know". How hard is it to look the resident in the eye, talk to them, and assess their abilities? 2) Staff does not provide adequately for the resident's safety. See number 1. Also, night 2 had her falling out of bed according to the staff's own admission. You may feel this is a great place to admit your loved one because they bill it as a "restraint-free" facility. That's great but it also means they have no bed rails. Instead, they place "bumper pads" on the floor next to the bed at night. Oh, yay! 3) Staff does not properly tend to the resident's pain management. When my mother did complain of pain which was infrequent as she had a nerve block but when she indicated she was in pain, she really was in pain for she was in the end stages of pancreatic cancer, I asked at the nurse's station for pain meds. The time it took for the nurse to arrive and give her pain medication was way longer than I expected. Also, when I asked the nurse to give her specific pain medication that is given under her tongue rather than pills, she first indicated she didn't know if they had them. Of course they did; my mother was under hospice care and I brought her meds with me when she was admitted. 4) Staff does not properly care for nutrition needs. See number 1. Also, every meal, the tray would be sitting there with the usual items on it for a person able to eat and chew. My mother was weak and could no longer feed herself and her appetite was all but gone for anything solid. Did anyone offer to feed her or ask what else they could try to give her? 5) Staff does not care for the overall resident's well being. All of the above. Bottom line, this was not the place for my mother to be at the end stages of her life. I had admitted her being overwhelmed by her rapid decline and fearful than I would drop her and injure her trying to maneuver her. After two days, I had her transferred out of here.

They live up to the "pleasant" name. ;) They have salon services and lots of activities. The common areas are clean and they're taking their COVID precautions seriously, checking temps of every visitor and limiting visits to in-room only; not in the common areas.

Heartland Hospice in Johnstown, Pennsylvania cared for my brother during his final days . The care…read morethat he received was wonderful. The entire staff was so compassionate and caring. Someone was always available for his needs. He had cancer and many interventions were utilized in attempt to make him as comfortable as possible. Everyone that involved with his care was kind but two individuals whom I had the most contact with were his hospice nurse Brian Sauro and Pastor Lee Seese and who deserve outstanding awards (5 star +++). They visited him regularly, and in my brother's final days, Brian was there every day and made certain that he had all the medications that he needed to help with pain management, supplies that were needed to keep him clean and comfortable. Heartland Hospice now reaches out to keep in touch with the family to make certain that we are having our emotional needs met. Thanks to all of those individuals who were there for my brother and for our family. If anyone needs a hospice service, I would recommend them.

I've been here many times in the past for various reasons including the births of my children…read more Never had any issues or problems when visiting this hospital. I visited the emergency room because of a rash/illness. After some research, my symptoms aligned with Lyme Disease. I was fatigued and in severe pain. The staff were very helpful and supportive throughout my visit. It started with checking my vitals and getting bloodwork done. Then I was sent back to a bed when available. There I met with the Physicians Assistant Kiley. She was great! Very thorough and knowledgeable. Answered all questions I had and ordered a chest X-ray to be sure that pneumonia had not set in. Even though the emergency room may take more time I know now that an Urgent Care Center would not have been so thorough with my care. They are more like a drive thru office compared to a full service facility! Nobody is ever happy with a trip to the hospital but Forbes is bearable and never had any complaints.

Obviously a hospital isn't going to be a…read moreplace that you are looking forward to, but the various times I've been there (or had loved ones in care there) experiences have been positive. I've been to Forbes for blood work, the surgery center, xrays, the cancer center and the emergency department. The closest to a negative experience was the ED and honestly, the staff there were great, it was just a crazy long wait. (Forbes is a trauma center, so the amount of people in the ER waiting room is not a great indication of how long you might wait). For example, I was there with my daughter. When the intake person realized just how long we would likely be waiting, they contacted Children's Hospital for us, got us in the line there and made sure we had things like emesis bags for the drive over. Every department I've been in the staff has been courteous, empathetic and attentive. The hospital itself is well maintained and clean. Obviously no one really wants to go to a hospital, but I feel fortunate that we have such a great option so close to home.
