The food truck phenomenon sweeping Orlando is full of amazing surprises. Word on the circuit was: if you *ever* see that lobster truck, go for the lobster roll. My quest ended last Sunday when our paths finally did cross at the Orlando Food Truck Bazaar behind Fashion Square Mall. Eureka! Honestly, Monsta Lobsta's 4 oz. lobster roll's one of the best things I think I've ever eaten: a buttered, toasted, top split bun, brimming over with big chunks of chilled lobster, mixed -- just right -- in a salad with mayo and scallions. Lotta lobsta flavor. If there is a food of the gods, surely this is it! So I pass this advice on to you, gentle reader: if you EVER see the Monsta Lobsta truck, go. Yes, you will pay 10 bucks for a 4 oz. sammie -- no chips, no pickle, no drink, just a lobster roll. (There's a jumbo version available for $20.) Yes, you will stand in line with the great unwashed masses just to place your order. And then you'll wait on the sidelines while your lobster roll is being prepared. But is it worth it? Food Truck Monsta Lobsta was at "Tipples" at Tower 24 Friday evening (8/7/2020). We bought three Lobster rolls, two small and one large as well as a container of Lobster Bisque for "dipping" and dripping on the rolls. It was not a "cheap meal" and was well worth every penny! Plenty of meat and very little mayo, celery or non-lobsta fillings. Mostly lobster meat!! Smaller regular size buns (traditional sweet/grilled rolls) with double the meat for a large. I've seen the Monsta Lobsta truck around town and heard of it's magical deliciousness, but finally had a chance to sample it at the Orlando Food Truck Bazaar at the Fashion Square Mall. Since we had a lot of grub to sample, the Future Lawyer and I split an original roll ($12.00). We debated about the Spicy Lobster Roll and The Bisque Roll (with lobster bisque on top!), but decided to start with the original and then saturate our palate with the specials at a later date. The sandwich comes on a toasted bun PILED high with delicious lobster salad, we had a full cracked claw facing our mouths. The flavoring is good, not too overpowering, not too mayonnaise-y. Well, the roll was definitely Monsta sized, but it was NOT all Lobster. When you spend $24 for what is advertised as a lobster roll, you expect to get 100% lobster meat, not imitation crab or some other mystery fish. Very disappointing. I will not buy from them again. read more

This is the second time we've sampled Monsta Lobsta, both times at the Windermere Food Truck Round-up and both times were awesome. The taste, quality, and service are all amazing. I ordered the Monsta Lobsta Roll - to put it simply: THE THING IS HUGE. It's no surprise that Monsta Lobsta always has the longest lines. After we ordered I handed my USAA USMC credit card to the young lady taking orders and she asked if I was a Marine. I was referred to Monsta Lobsta at the Food Truck weekly event behind RDV in Maitland that occurs every Friday. I am by no means a Lobster Roll connoisseur, but I know great when I taste it. I sampled both the Lobster Bisque and the Spice Lobster Roll. Total price was $17 which is pricey for lunch but MORE than worth it when it comes to flavor. You get what you pay for as they say. The spicy lobster roll was nothing by delicious lobster chunks with just the right amount of spicy mayo on a perfect toasted and buttered bun. The bisque was rich and tasty. We've been having food trucks come to Valencia for a couple of weeks now. Being that I'm a huge seafood fan I was extremely excited when I saw the email come across about this place. The non-spicy was only $5; but, I like spice. It was served in a container that could barely fit one scoop of ice cream. It couldn't have been more than one ladle full of their spicy bisque. He warned me to stir it up because all the spice was on the bottom. Well, it must have been on the bottom of the pot because I got no spice. What I did get was the taste of canned lobster bisque that I've had from the grocery store. It was void of any meat at all. First, all the spices mixed in the "lobster" salad was over powering (but maybe that's my taste?, so I didn't deduct any stars). This was literally the worst lobster roll. I am from Boston and know what it takes to make a true lobster roll. This truck is using some sort of shredded lobster mixture to fill 3/4 of the roll and calling it 4ounces of lobster meat, and putting two small claw meats on top ... the roll was stale and cold. The lobster mixture tasted so so strong of lemon I couldn't even eat it. I just pulled it apart and tried to salvage my $14 spent. If I wasn't already home I would have brought it back. We caught up with Monst Lobsta at the Clermont Food Truck event the first Friday in June. My wife and I started with a Lobster Roll for her and a Blue Crab roll for me. I must say they are the nicest folks I have ever encountered in a food truck and are the equal of any cafe or restaurant you can think of. I found the Blue Crab roll well worth the $10 price. Strong, rich crab flavor on a warm and tasty roll. Just enough mayo and scallions to keep it together. This is in my hall of fame for one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. My wife liked her Lobster roll, but found it a bit salty. Then we made our mistake. We went back for seconds. After all the sandwiches were not THAT big; right? Wrong. I got the Lobster roll the second time and found mine as good as any lobster roll I have had in New England. The lobster was just a bit salty, but I have had far worse. Over all, well worth the $10. But be warned, unless you can handle a large amount of very rich food, 2 sandwiches are 1 too many! ;-) I left feeling way too full! But the discomfort was well worth it. This is not your typical food truck. They use real lobster and trust me, you will like it! My first encounter was during the holiday at the drive in Edgewater Drive last December, since then I follow their facebook page on their whereabouts and when they are in Par the area I live, I would usually get a lobster roll! Oh my. These Lobstah Rolls are like WHOA. I had the honor and privilege to sample these devastatingly amazing sandwiches at my sister's wedding. My dad decided to surprise my sister with the food trucks during her cocktail hour and it was a hit! In fact, it pretty much was the highlight of the wedding-and the wedding was outstanding!!! The only thing I'm upset about is that I live 3 hours away and can't devour these little bundles of lobster heaven on the regular. I honestly question all these reviews for Monsta Lobsta who praise them. Did I go to the wrong food truck? The roll I got was not toasted, did not have any resemblance to a lobster roll but looked more like a dinner roll. It was piled high with lettuce and a couple scrawny pieces of shredded meat that resembled lobster but had no flavor. I paid $12.00 for this dinner roll with lettuce and shredded something. Yikes, never again. Here is how a lobster roll should be made in case you want to do it right... Get yourself a hoagie roll big enough to support all your ingredients. Butter the inside of both sides of the roll and fry it on the buttered sides until golden brown. Lather both side of the roll with a generous portion of home made Cole slaw. Pile high enough chunked lobster meat to justify eating the meal with a fork then season it with Old Bay seasoning. Wrap it in paper so the roll doesn't sweat and get soggy. Serve with lots of napkins. I have made these lobster rolls for over 25 years now and they have never cost more than $5.00 to make myself. Haven't found a food truck yet that can make any food better than I can make it at home. Guess I will just give up on trying to find good food from a food truck unless it's something I don't make such as pretzels. read more

There were huge chunks of tender juicy lobster, so full of flavor. If I wasn't stuffed after one 4oz. roll, I would have had another!
