The job was hired to remove a dead Japanese Maple, as well as trim/prune several other trees. I arrived home to find that two of my trees had been butchered!!!! Literally, 1/2 of these 30 foot trees now have no foliage or branches on one side of the tree; it looks really awful! So, just imagine a tree that size -- a trunk and a few close-to-the-trunk stubs of branches, and no foliage -- with the other side still having branches with foliage. Again, the word "butchered" is an apt description. This is was the estimate/work order stated: "Prune to reduce the length, height, or spread of the tree crown ... The goal is to shape the trees and reduce the size as much as possible and get some home clearance. Monster Tree Service was hired because the owner, Jason Farland is an arborist. I expected, with an arborist, to have my trees SHAPED -- as the work order stated. Over and over, when me and Mr. Farland were going from tree to tree during his estimate work-up, I expressed that I wanted the trees shaped. I wanted a long oval shape -- and I made the shape over and over with my hands in the air to demonstrate what I wanted. I did the VERY same thing with Raphael (the person who led the team of three that showed up to do the work). OVER, and OVER I communicated the way I wanted these trees SHAPED. These trees can be cut in this shape -- it is the shape I have had them cut in every time I had the pruning/trimming service done. Mr. Farland called me back shortly after I called him. He said that we had a misunderstanding about what was to be done to the two trees. I expressed to him that I never agreed to have the trees cut back so severely that one whole side of them is now bare!!! I stated that the estimate used the verb "SHAPE". And that I expressly stated with words and hand gestures numerous times that I wanted the trees shaped. He defended the work of the team he sent out -- he said they did what he himself would have done. He then tried to say that the trees needed to be cut back that severely to enable new growth -- and then they could be shaped. I had to call BS on that defense -- because if that had been what we agreed to then we would have discussed a future service to check on new growth and the tree's readiness to be pruned. And really ... we're waiting for new growth? When the weather is cooling and winter is coming?! I am concerned that the trees may die; that's how severely they have been cut back on one side. He said, "Well, we aren't going to agree about this". I stated that I am not okay with leaving the trees as they are -- again, they look butchered. And I further stated that I was not okay with anyone else but him/a team that he is supervising coming back to do any further work on the trees. He balked at this -- stating he would send another team -- even though "the team I sent you is A1". I then said, are you telling me that you don't have 30 to 45 minutes to do/supervise additional work to get those trees shaped up?! He recanted his stated plan to send another crew and said he will come back himself. I am heartbroken that these two, old lovely trees have been cut like they have. I am just sick about it. And I am horrified by how this all went down!!! I believed I had hired an arborist who knew trees -- who was advanced enough in his professional ability to not MISUNDERSTAND me when I, no fewer than 10 times stated and gestured what I wanted. Contracted by my HOA to prune trees behind my home. A branch came down on my privacy fence pulling it backwards. I watched the entire event happen, but the crew denied ever touching the fence. The owner, Jason, was not willing to even speak with me...telling his crew leader to take him off speaker to I couldn't hear his conversation. It's an old fence. I wasn't asking for major repairs or to replace anything. I just wanted them to stabilize the section they damaged so it wouldn't fall. Definitely not an honorable company. read more

We joined with several of our neighbors and had Monster Tree Service remove (cut down and grind stumps) of 2 large crepe myrtle trees in our yard. They arrived as promised and did the work. I was surprised when I returned home, however, to see foot high piles of "grinders" still at the location of the trees. I inquired and was told that I would need to pay $100. more to have the "grinders" removed. The work took one man all of 15 minutes, but since I am elderly and have neither wheel barrel nor shovel, I had no choice. To add insult to injury, when I inspected the area when it was properly cleaned up, I noted that our irrigation line had been cut right through. I emailed Monster Tree and was told it was not their responsibility. All told, I was very disappointed in the quality of work performed, the communication, and the lack of customer satisfaction. read more

We were warned by others not to use this company but gave them a try because we had a lot of very high limbs that needed removed and they could use the big bucket truck. They ended up dropping huge dead limbs from 50+ feet high onto our backyard furniture instead of lowering the bucket down and breaking stuff, acting irresponsibly. They were crass and smoked and cussed the whole time and didn't even get all the limbs down that were agreed upon. I would not recommend this company. read more

The crew did a fantastic job, very respectful and answered any questions that I has as well as initiated an excellent clean up. Highly recommend this company! They took down a very large, dead pine tree in our backyard without causing any damage to the yard or structures. We were very impressed with the whole process including cutting up the remaining wood and cleaning all the surrounding areas. You can't even tell where the tree was. These guys just left my house; I had them take out two 14 year old maple trees that were quite large. They took the trees down, ground the stumps and chased the roots, cleaned up after themselves even in front of my neighbor's house and left the area looking nice. Unprofessional. I called over a week ago and spoke to someone who took my info and said I'd receive a return call in a day. THREE days went by - no call or followup. I called again in in good faith or perhaps my original request was lost (no biggie). I left a message this time. It's now been 10 days and no response or acknowledgement to my calls. If you can't handle your upfront sales calls, do you really expect an overall good experience with a company? My suggestion would be to look elsewhere. Update-After my review posted, I received a call right away. Initially I was impressed, but the call was nothing more than to be condescending and lecture me (included excuses) on why my original calls had not been returned. The tone and words being used were also unprofessional and became berating. If they didn't want my business because I lived too far away (I was told it's difficult to go that far to provide an estimate), that's fine. In the end, the "callback" I received 9 days later was clearly in anger to my review exposing their lack of response and eventual unprofessionalism in their follow up. read more

I must say I've used Monster for several years and was very happy with their service until this year. I'm still not sure what happened but I scheduled to have several trees trimmed Mar 30th 2022. They(monster) didn't give me a time but in the past they would call 15 to 20 min before arriving but this time they didn't. Once they arrived they didn't even ring the door bell, if they had I would have noticed on my security system. I only knew they were outside when I happened to look out the window. I went out and talked with the project leader and showed him the trees, at which point he told me they could not cut the trees today because of another urgent job, but went on to say they would call me back and reschedule. Though I was disappointed there was not much I could do. I waited a couple of days but no call, so I finally called them on Friday, they would not answer my call I know they know my caller id because they usually answer and say my name, but this time nothing after two calls. So, I texted the owner, I have his text num because he usually text me a few days after a job was completed and ask how it went and would remind me to rate them on google which I've always given them very good ratings. But this time he never responded to my text. This is just one bad experience out of several good experiences with them, but I am still curious what I did wrong? Poor service. I was told that it would take up to a month to come out and cut my trees. There was no communication, no date set, and emails were ignored. After a month, I was told that it would be another 3 weeks. I was told by an employee name Johnny that I could receive a refund of my 10% deposit. I would not recommend this company unless you enjoy discovering huge chunks of tree trunk have been scattered around behind your fence. This was after we had paid to have a fallen tree removed and was told that all of the wood would be hauled away. Then I was told by the owner that "you didn't pay for it, your insurance did." I have used Monster tree service several times before with good results. However, I used them again recently with very disappointing results. It was almost 2 weeks between my calling for an estimate and someone showing up for the estimate, despite their add that they provide estimates with in hours, not days. They cut down a tree in my backyard by using some heavy equipment. The equipment significantly damaged the lawn. They had plywood on their truck but for some reason did not use it to protect the lawn. Instead of chipping all of the tree branches, they dragged and left some of them in a pile just off my property line. They forgot to take their chainsaw with them when they left. The next day I gave the chainsaw back to one of the crew and complained about how they left my yard. I got a "sorry about that but happy holidays". I don't know what has happened to this company the past year but will never use Monster tree service again. read more

Wow! I am so happy we chose Monster Tree for our tree removal! We had 6 huge trees we needed removed, for various reasons. We got quotes from many companies, and Monster was in the middle price range. After speaking with the owner, I was confident to choose them based on their insurance, equipment, and word of mouth references. Today they did our work and my husband and I were sooo impressed with their professionalism, kindness, safety, and cleanliness! The owner ran the crew with great respect and did so much work himself. He asked us repeatedly to make sure they got everything, and we were happy. They found a rotten tree near where we are putting in a pool. I loved that they showed it to me, and didn't upsell me on taking it out - they gave me options. However, we did have them remove it and they only charged a minimal amount since they were already there. Just glad he showed it to us because it would have been awful to remove after our pool gets built! Best of all they cleaned up all the mess from the trees and more! Monster Tree Service was very attentive, courteous, and professional. We are very satisfied with the work performed and the timeliness with which it was done. After learning of a "leaner" pine, heading in the direction of a neighbor's house, we contacted Monster on a late Friday evening. Saturday morning, the arborist was at our house and devised a plan that worked. In addition to the "leaner" a few other pine-beetle infested "risks" were identified for removal too. The Monster crew was shortly on the road and to our house and by mid-day the job was done. Clean up was as agreed and then some. "Foreman Rich" gratuitiously took a few previous limbs and logs from the yard just to make things look nice. A couple of removed trees had their stumps ground down....and Monster was able to do that all in one day. All in all...a great relief to us, the homeowners, that we were able to eliminate risks before hurricane season takes its tool....at a fair price. I wouldn't waste time with this company. Sent email #1 for a quote. No response. Sent email #2. Still no response. No, replies didn't go to Junk mail. Called them up. We specifically discussed that since mornings don't work for me setup an appt at 1 PM with the person saying "ok I will be there at 12:45". At the appointed hour no one shows up. When I called them they said according to the system the appt was at 11:30 AM on that day. What?? Granted someone tried to call me earlier that day to confirm the appt at 11:30 but I wasn't expecting call from anyone at the time. How did the 1 PM appt got changed to 11:30 AM after specifically discussing that mornings don't work for me which the person acknowledged? When I asked how the appt time got changed the person said "this is not the first time it has happened!". So I asked the person to send someone to take a look at give me a quote via email. He said it will be sent within 2 days. Still nothing after 6 days. Do you have time to deal with this just to get a quote? I don't. read more
