I do a thing of getting local chocolates for my boss. This one was near the area and one of a kind. I figured checking this out. Here was my experience.
AMBIANCE
Parking: Old San Juan so it gets busy. You got your street parking, garage parking, but when in doubt, try to ride share or just come early.
Seating: Not much seating really moreover a spot for a grab and go.
Vibes: Old San Juan is already full of charm, and Montadero fits right in. The shop is warm, inviting, and beautifully showcases Puerto Rican chocolate. You can tell there's a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship--from the beautifully displayed bonbons to the stories behind the cacao. I appreciated that it felt intimate rather than commercial.
CHOCOLATES
Hazelnut covered Puerto Rican Chocolate (Recommend)
Simple, elegant, and incredibly satisfying. I dig the dark powder and coco and that rich hazelnut center. Rich and not overly sweet. This is the type of chocolate you slow down and enjoy as you are on vacation.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Wonderful. Friendly and welcoming. The staff was happy to answer questions about the chocolates.
TL;DR OVERALL
5 Stars. Wonderful choices, beautiful craftsmanship, and reasonable prices. It's a wonderful way to experience one of Puerto Rico's local treasures.
Montadero isn't just selling chocolate--it's but highlighting Puerto Rican cacao. Whether you're a chocolatier or want to get a thoughtful souvenir, this is the spot.
