Ive literally been in this store so many times just to get prices and "Romero" has always helped me with his best intentions. I really value this place not only because its a local business, but because the staff doesn't mind spending hours helping their customers. These guys have a few bad reviews for whatever reason. However, we have nothing but good experiences with them (both locations). Our house has cedar shingle siding, and we have no desire to change it. We need to re-shingle our house. They are the only ones we can find in the area that have grooved/wavy cedar shingle siding. The price per box is fair considering the inflated price of wood in the last year. We will always shop here for at least the cedar shingles, unless something changes. One contracted we contacted for an estimate tried to convince us the shingles cost significantly more per box than they actually do. We're obviously not going with that contractor. Since we have bought the shingles from Montalbano before, we decided to buy all the remaining boxes we need to complete our home project. read more

Every time I come here, it takes an hour to get loaded. I am at an hour and a half and have about 3/4 of my order in my truck. Pick another place. No one cares about the customer. 6 people have come in after me and all have been loaded and gone. Plywood and nails. That is all I came for. My business is going elsewhere. read more

If I could give 0, I would! The "boss" was so rude in trying to explain why the wouldn't sell me lumber without selling OSB boards which are way over marked up than other competitors. I don't mind taking my business elsewhere but how unprofessional he was, was bad enough. Do not recommend this place at all!! Horrible customer service!!!! read more

This review is for the hardware store and paint department. I was looking for an exterior oil based primer and paint for our aluminum camper. First I stopped at Lowe's. No one helped me. I spent a good 30-40 minutes wondering around and reading labels before I left. Then I stopped by the Depot. No love there either. I looked at everything they had. One paint might have worked but it was out of stock. No one even noticed I was there. We are planning to prime tomorrow and I was feeling defeated. Found this place. It feels like the old hardware stores I grew up with. Very well staffed and stocked and I was greeted and help right away. They had exactly what I needed in stock and Julian was knowledgeable and answered all my questions and I left ready to take on this project. They have so many colors to choose from and also do color matching. I look forward to doing business here again soon. read more

Horrible Customer Service, came in at 4:56 pm and was told that they where closed... but their Hrs are until 5:30...

After ordering over $20,000 worth of supplies, I decided to take my business elsewhere. I am a homeowner doing renovations. Their policies are antiquated and service is sub-par. My delivery was scheduled for the next day. I hired people to be there to receive the supplies. After waiting ALL day, they never showed up. I called the next day. They decided that no deliveries were going out for the day but NEVER notified me that they would not be delivering. When I asked for the delivery fees to be refunded, they refused and said they would deliver the next day. I spoke with Mike (allegedly), he was rude, unsympathetic and just basically saying deal with it! I chose Stahlman and am much happier now AND prices were less. read more

Big lumberyard and small hardware store. I would've given them 4 stars, but several of the guys who work there are a little cranky. They seem to think that if you don't know as much as them about lumber and hardware, then you're an idiot who's wasting their time, and they somehow have the right to be rude to you. This doesn't apply to all the employees, just to many of the male employees. There's an old saying in the business world: "S**t rolls downhill." Well, the same is true of corporate culture; bad attitudes roll downhill from the top. I would imagine the head honcho is just the same way. Update: Received an email from the owner apologizing for the experiences I had there. I also shopped there again since my last review, and was waited on by a friendly, patient employee. I take back my comment about the owner probably having a bad attitude, and also change my rating to 4 stars. read more

This place is in my area and I always try and support the locals other than the big corporate places. This place has been around a long time...in fact I remember going there as a kid with my Father. That was way before the big box stores exsisted. Even now I have gone to this place a few times if I need something quick but I believe I have gone my last time. In true Montalbano fashion the prices are high and the cashier rude. Went there twice this past Saturday for a little home project I was doing. Everytime I have gone there in the past few months the cashier, a large Hispanic young lady with glasses is there. She has never been friendly but on Saturday she was even worse. First of all they were very slow both times I was there. The first she was envolved in a conversation with another employee about their weekend. They never shut up or spoke with me throughout the entire transaction...and getting her to be polite is like pulling teeth. The second time I went in Saturday she was alone at the register and even tho I said Hi...no reply. We conducted our business and again...nothing. No Thank You...no Good Bye...no Thanks for Coming In...no nothing. I can deal with either sky high prices OR rude employees but not both. read more

I was treated poorly during my last visit, and I always go to this location because it's conveniently located in my neighborhood. I'm not certain what the deal was with the staff on the particular day that I visited the store, but the gentleman that ended up helping me acted as if it were inconvenient for him to do so, and the store was empty. I remember going into the store with my dad many years ago. The MOM Mrs. Motalbano would immediately greet us and ask how she could assist. That example is still in place (although no one is a tough as that lady was, she was great!) I can always ask the sales guys for advice and living in an old neighborhood Montalbano's always has the correct supplies needed they tend to cater to the older houses whereas some of these supplies are not always carried in bigger stores. I read some of the reviews left here and had to throw my $.02 in. Mrs. Montalbano ran a tight ship. I always respected her for that and I am glad we have a Hardware/Lumber store so readily available especially during in-climate weather for boarding up windows or tarps or repair items for patching after storms.
