I wish I could give Dr. Stavis MORE than five stars. Our daughter (4 years old) suffered from strabismus in both eyes. One of her eyes was misaligned at all times, most of the time both were "crossed" to some degree. We initially took her to a physician in Austin, but sought out Dr. Stavis for a second opinion. We wife is in the healthcare industry and got his name from a nurse that has worked in the OR for many years, and with him in surgery. Dr. Stavis detected muscle weakness and torsion issues with our daughter's eyes that the physician in Austin missed entirely. We were able to obtain a complete treatment of our daughter's issues (corrections for misalignment and torsion) with both eyes in a single surgery. His follow-up after the surgery was excellent (we had at least three follow-up appointments). That was three years ago, and our our daughter is still doing great. Dr. Stavis is a character - by that I mean he's engaging, energetic, likes to tell stories, and likes to talk about surgery techniques. Anyone can tell he loves his work and his patients. My wife and I, and our daughter, will always be thankful for his help. He truly changed our lives in a wonderful way. read more

I just recently had strabismus surgery, (yesterday to be exact), and it turned out better than I could have hoped for. I am 43 years old and the reason I had it done so late was because of what many people fear which is cost, procedure and mainly didn't think it was possible to correct my vision at my age. Before I had the procedure done I did my due diligence and research about what I could do for my eyes, after months of research I found Dr. Monte Stavis. When I first walked in the door I was greeted by Melissa which by the way is a wonderful fun person in her own right she made me feel comfortable and right at home. She took care of me and gave me information about how things were going to be and never faltered. What she said and how she said it just makes you feel at ease. As it turns out it was a shock to me that it went exactly as she said, so Thank you Melissa. She then introduced me to Dr. Stavis. When I first met him he made me feel safe and right at home, I mean who does this now a days. His bed side manner so to speak is amazing I never felt like I was there for any other reason than to be taken care of the right way. He did all the test and knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix the problem. He then went on to explain everything in detail and when I mean detail I mean detail. He also went on to explain how the procedure would go and sure enough the day of my surgery it went exactly how he had said. I just want to say... THANK YOU SO MUCH, Dr. Stavis you and Melissa are the best and you both have not only changed my life for the better I now have a better appreciation for what you do, not only for me but for others as well. The passion I saw in what you do and how you treat others was a sight to see. You always made me laugh and had my wife laughing all the way home each time we left your office. You made us feel at home and not ever did I feel like I wasn't in the right hands for this procedure you truly are an amazing person, and I will always be grateful to you for changing my life for the better. This Dr needs a Nobel Prize! I've seen him cure many spectrum disorders with an eye surgery no one else is doing !! My kid can read now! My kid no longer needs ADHD meds!!! He was Diagnosed dyslexic with dysgraphia. All gone!! Literally almost immediately after surgery! This Dr cares so much about your kid anything else is secondary.. The best there ever was! He fixed my child's eyes after many failed attempts by another doctor. He's quirky, but that's just a bonus! He will absolutely let the parents have it if they're not following through with the recommended treatment plan. He never feeds you a line of bs. You do your job & he'll do his best. At the 1 year check-up visit for my son, our pediatrician noticed his eyelid was getting droopy and recommended we take him to an ophthalmologist to get it checked JUST IN CASE. We arrived at our appointment about ten minutes early and had to wait over 2 hours before we were seen. Once we finally met with the doctor, we explained to him why we were there. He immediately disregarded our concerns and told us that my son had other major problems that needed to be addressed immediately. Dr. Stavis told us that my son's tear ducts were blocked and that his eyes were "torsed", basically needing surgery ASAP to prevent behavioral problems and learning disabilities in the future. He then spent the next 30-45 minutes explaining this new procedure he invented, how he tours the world talking about it, how he's writing a book about it, and that it was the cure-all for my son. My son was upset and crying during his 2 minute exam. Dr. Stavis explained to us that he was crying because his eyes were not aligned correctly and it was causing him frustration. He even gave us a couple chapters out of the book he was working on. It seemed legit enough. As a parent you want the best for your child, so we went ahead and scheduled the surgery. The next day, I started to feel like something was not right about all this. I called Dr. Stavis' office and cancelled the surgery. I later received a call for the Doctor himself, explaining why this surgery was needed and how his procedure has changed lives. I called another office to schedule an appointment for a second opinion but was not able to get in until a couple of months later. Months later finally came, we see another ophthalmologist. He tells us our son is perfect and that Dr. Stavis is known for recommending unneeded surgeries on children. We have been living in agony thinking we were not doing right by our son. STAY AWAY!! Dr. Stavis is a scam artist and a crock, looking for guinea pigs!!! read more

Dr. Stavis did a great job diagnosing and fixing my son's eye muscle issues. My husband and I weren't aware for a long time that my son had any issues at all, as he always seemed to do okay academically. He also had basic eye exams in the past. However, in late elementary school, his teacher alerted us that he was having reading and tracking issues. When we saw Dr. Stavis, he was able to show me what the problem was, as well as provide additional information. Convergence insufficiency is a problem that can be corrected. In a nutshell, my child had difficulty maintaining focus/aligning the eyes properly. For instance, he would try to focus and his eyes would be trying to drift outward. The eyes don't work together properly. This causes headaches, eye strain etc. He was not consistent in wearing his glasses, and with participating in sports, and most importantly, with so many years of schooling ahead of him, we opted for surgery as a permanent fix. The operation went smoothly and recovery went as expected. Since the surgery, I am able to see that my son's gaze is steadier now. This was obvious in his post-op examination. He is able to read much longer without fatigue, and no longer complains of feeling sick when reading in the car. He says he notices a difference and no longer gets headaches. I'm so grateful for Dr. Stavis resolving these issues for him. read more

Dr. Monte Stavis is a godsend. I have 4 children and 3 of them were reading by age 4. One was not reading towards the end of first grade, and I began to be concerned. I knew he was an intelligent kid because he could do math in his head and was able to memorize books with one or two readings. We went to a see an optometrist in the area, and he said that nothing was wrong with his eyes except being slightly colorblind. We were switching schools, and my son had to be tested for admission. The teacher testing him told me that she thought that he had a reading problem as well. This began my search for an eye doctor that could actually identify the problem and correct it. After weeks of research, I located Dr. Stavis. Not only did Dr. Stavis diagnosis my son with esophoria caused by twisting in the eyes; he had me stand behind him and watch him as he fatigued my son's eyes. I could see his eye move to the side and out of position for reading. This was why he could not read. He could not hold his eyes in position, and they fatigued quickly and gave him a headache, which made him not want to read. We began a conservative treatment plan with muscle relaxing eye drops, which were very effective. He caught up on his reading skills over the next year, and he continued to do well. At this point, he was doing well in school with straight A's, and I felt that since he was doing so well that he did not need any more treatment. The almost two hours to get from our home to get to Dr. Stavis's office may have assisted in making that decision. My son did well for two year until this past summer when he started getting headaches again. We went to see Dr. Stavis again. His problem had regressed back to where it was without the drops. Dr. Stavis offered us the option of trying drops again or having surgery. At this point, he was having to lie down almost daily at school in the afternoon with headaches. We opted to have surgery this December. He had 11 degrees of twisting in his right eye and a few degrees of twisting in his left. Dr. Stavis took great care when performing surgery on him, and he corrected his problem. My son said reading is much more comfortable after surgery. He has been back at school for two weeks, and he has had no headaches. He also told me that he shared reading a science book with the fastest reader in his class, and he was able to keep up with him. I know we made an excellent decision trusting Dr. Stavis to take care of our son's eyes. read more

The worst Doctor ever!!! Please people don't take your child there. This doctor is a con artist!! All he wants is money and that's very apparent from the minute you meet him. He's very arrogant, very unprofessional and very disorganized. He will try to push you to buy his prisms glasses and will be adamant that your kid needs it. He tries to instill fear in you. I am glad I listened to my mommy gut when I didn't feel comfortable and walked out refusing further treatment. The reason I went there is because I thought he is affiliated with Memorial Hermann hospital but he is not!! He only rents space at their location. I called to make a complaint at the hospital told me this.I only wish I checked him out at the Texas medical board website before I went. What I read leaves me shocked and angry that I even let him touch my son. This doctor is a monster. Read for yourself!! Disgusting!! Don't take your kid there please please!! read more

Worse experience ever & would never wish any family to be disrespected,discriminated or taken advantage of. Its unfortunate that Yelp would not let me rate Dr. Stavis & staff 0 Stars. It's sad that this doctor does not care about his patients & it's just interested in the money from the insurance companies & the patients. Of course the staff reflects the unprofessionalism they treat patients with. Especially Silvia the receptionist who lacks education & manners it's the worst. She would hang up on us every time we would call to get updated. She never would call us to keep us informed of any updates with my daughter's surgery. We had to deal with Silvia & Dr. monte Stavis lying and cheating us out of money that to this day they still refuse to pay back. After they collected the money they demanded from us, they scheduled the 1st date for my daughter's surgery but decided to cancel it last minute (2 days before & was re-scheduled multiple times & always cancelled). When I stopped in the office to bring the balance of the deductible on my way out they were getting served with court papers to appear in court, Silvia & Dr. stavis were were furious with the person that was serving the legal court papers & it made me feel uncomfortable not knowing if it was something serious like a malpractice lawsuit. When they cancelled my daughter's multiple times from the different hospitals they kept re-scheduling her surgery, I decided to call the hospitals to find out why they would not allow him to do any surgeries at their facilities but all the representatives would only tell me that they could not disclose that information so It's possible that he may have legal issues & therefore he is banned from doing surgeries at a few hospitals. We wish we would have never had wasted a year with Dr. Stavis & Sylvia's disrespectful attitude. We decide to just get refunded our money & we were given hell to collect a partial amount & still haven't received the rest they still owe us ( We are not asking to get compensated for the money we lost for taking off from work or the non vacation time I requested from work to be with my daughter, we just feel that we should get reimbursed the money we paid out of pocket). The only great thing that happened out of this nightmare was that it made us more selective, so we researched to not make the same mistake again. We took my daughter to a real doctor that evaluated her & scheduled her surgery right away. Thanks to the Amazing new doctor & the staff that did an Incredible job by helping my daughter feel comfortable with the procedure from beginning to end. We definitely experienced the difference from the disappointing treatment from Dr. Stavis & his Disrespectful secretary Sylvia & a Dr. That prioritized in my daughter's wellbeing. Thank God everything went great & she has already recovered. read more
