Really happy with this vet and office. I was switching from another vet that was too far away, and my little 16 year old schnauzer had an infection and needed a quick appointment. They were able to get us in right away. The front office gal was SUPER nice. The vet, Dr. McKenna was VERY kind and helpful. Explained everything well on how to care for him after they cleaned him up. The cost was not outrageous, and they take Care Credit which was great! They neglected my pregnant dog and she lost her puppies, six years later she denies it. The business owner says I should remove my review but I wont. My dog, my household suffered terribly. There was some reason the "hospital " was closed at the beginning of covid when my pregnant dog an appointment, this business decided to closethat day, she went into early labor and all eleven puppies died, I had to take them to another vet who can confirm , because this place would not take my calls. The vet claims it didnt happen , and its my imagination, a horrible thing to say, but how can I forget such a tragic event. Penelope died three weeks ago and I wont be letting this go, I will now lean intoit after being told Im lying. Apparently they dont even keep their records from six years ago.Beware I guess, was giving them another chance because they are close, but not after his gaslighting. After bringing in my Sphynx, they immediately wanted to set me up for another appt - to see how the wound was coming along - which, is understandable and not out of the ordinary; he only received antibiotics. I explained I was a RN, and that I wasn't willing to pay $100+ for something I could readily recognize. I was told I would receive a call surrounding any costs associated with the visit. I called the night before the appt to be sure that this appt was not kept and to share that not any one person from the office had called me surrounding the fee for "said" appt. Lastly, as an aside, the office widely advertises "no cost" physicals with first appt along with a reduced fee. This is absurd: this physical is a weight and eye check -- The lead vet called me PERSONALLY -- she was unbelievably heated - mind you, this is for a $50 no-show fee. Two of the assistants also called me with lengthy comments AND, their credit agency has since called multiple times -- Sheer insanity - these people are lunatics. They attempted to steal my dog thankfully, the cops were able to intervene and we were able to get the puppy back. They provided false information about our puppies health in an attempt to try to steal the dog thankfully, we could prove the dog was ours. part of the claim that was made by the office staff when they called with an update was that the puppy was dying. And when we asked for more information and if we can come see the dog they told us that we could not see the puppy. When we arrived the puppy was in good health and has been since we got the puppy back. I would never recommend anyone to go there. read more

Devious charging practices 1. Made an appointment for my dog and asked how much the office visit would be as told $99 for a wellness check since she hasn't been seen in 2 years. Was charged $125 for "senior" wellness check bc it's a more thorough exam but it wasn't. Purpose of our visit was swollen and watery eye and Dr. Pearl checked eyes and heart. Peaked into her ears and teeth - it was quick. She didn't touch anything on the body, legs or paws. No hip or leg exam. Bc she's a patient they pulled up her record before quoting me the price and knew she's 12.5 yo. I don't mind paying for service but it's frustrating and crafty paying for service you don't received. 2. Speaking of paying for something you don't receive, Dr. Pearl recommended Oravet dental chews after paying for it ($52.21) I decided not to get it bc it was a large bag and after looking at it can tell my dog wouldn't like it. She couldn't refund me at the time - I spoke to Dominique the office manager and it's been 2 weeks and still no refund. 3. FYI same day cancellations are $50 Dr. Pearl didn't seem comfortable around my dog and was a bit standoffish. I have a 32lb 12.5 year old passive shy Australian Shepherd who has never bitten anything in her life. I found Dr. Pearl's behavior unusual for a vet. read more

This organization has one working vet. I made an appointment for 8:30 yesterday and I had to leave my cat there after over an hour of waiting. I left the office at 10 with no updates and without seeing the vet. There are several issues but I'll list a few off of the top of my head after a single visit. Their communication is lacking. There is nowhere online or in office stating they don't take cash payments, but they almost refused to take my cash when I went to pick my cat up. They called me 4 times prior, mind you, to come get my cat even though they knew I'd be there at a specific time due to being at work. They then took 20 minutes to bring my cat to me. My cats condition has not improved, despite this being a routine issue she has had treatment for at her regular vet. I don't trust they gave her the proper treatment as she hasn't improved, and they gave her an antibiotic shot without any proof of an infection or bacteria present. Go figure. My fiance had to take over communication because I have OCD and I'm on the spectrum. When I called today to request follow up paperwork be emailed to me, the manager, Dominique, rudely threw my disorders in my face. She stated "your boyfriend had to call back several times because you didn't pay attention to what she (vet) said, right?". I paid $900 in cash as stated previously, and they can't offer me a refund, yet they want to charge me $300 more for a culture that I was told was included in the urinalysis cost, WHY DID YOU ADMINISTER ANTIBIOTICS WITH NO PROOF OF BACTERIA OR IT BEING NEEDED?????? I was sent home with NO documentation or after care instructions and was essentially shoved out of the door at 4:50 since they closed at 5. Dominique is aggressive, unfriendly, and argumentative. $942.00 later and I am in the same situation, only now I need to spend more money taking my cat to another vet Friday. I have filed a complaint with the Veterinary State Board since they essentially just stole cash from me without any resolution and are wanting to charge additional costs for something they should've done. Dr. Pearl was ver inappropriate and raised her voice at us. There was an obvious language barrier however she still thought blaming and yelling would somehow make it easier to understand her. We were also once told by San Roque they would not see our dog because only one vet had agreed to see him. Just because they're in Montecito does not mean you'll get the best care. Gentleman technician at the San Roque location is also very rude and will speak down on you. When I asked to talk to the vet about the situation I was told it didn't happened and the dr was too busy. Then my mom asked if we could use the restroom, one receptionist told her no bc it was out of service. Went to book my cat and my roommate's cat for an appointment with a doctor, and we were treated unfiarly. My roommate's cat has cancer and the receptionist was very rude about it. We have had 2 different pet and 2 different veterinarians serve us at Montecito Pet Hospital. Dr. Wiekart and Dr. MacVeigh. I have been to other vets and always come back here. They have been excellent at getting us in, answering calls, sending records, thorough in examination and great with follow up. I like how they examine your dog in front of you and explain each finding. They discuss pricing and treatment options and do not judge if you need to pick a more affordable option or make a plan that defers care for a later time when too costly. We have had an end of life experience with our dog Kirby that was empathetic and compassionate. The keepsake paw and cremation services were important to us and we felt guided and supported through that sad time. Now we have 2 young children and Dr MacVeigh is their favorite! She has great people, pet, and personal skills and I have the utmost confidence and appreciation for her. I was new to Santa Barbara and wanted to establish a vet for my 1 year old puppy corgi back in July 2024. My corgi has never had issues with any of the 3 previous vets that we have been visiting in Orange County. On my first visit (and only visit) to Montecito Pet Hospital, Dr. Pearl rushed in to our room and immediately was being physical with my puppy. He showed no signs of aggression but she insisted that he wears a muzzle for her safety. I was taken by surprise but placed the muzzle that she provided on him so I can continue his physical (I should have seen this as a red flag and left). The muzzle that she provided was not the right size for him and the metal bracket of the muzzle started chocking him. My poor corgi was choking and meanwhile on the side Dr. Pearl was just standing there lecturing me why I should practice muzzle training with him more instead of helping me get the muzzle off of him. I was panicking and yelling at her for scissors to cut the muzzle off of him but she nonchalantly walks to the back to come back 5 min later with scissors. I have added pictures to show that my puppy corgi is really calm and loving even to my cat and other dogs. I am not a confrontational person so I paid his bill and left the hospital to move on from this experience. My intention was to never look back at this experience but should have wrote this review earlier or called an agency to file a complaint. 5 months later, Montecito Pet Hospital had the audacity to call me regarding a bill for his fecal sample. They made the mistake to not add it to my original bill and threatened to put me to collection. I paid them the $60 for the fecal sample today, even though from July to now I never received any information on the results. The outrageous fact is I still paid them for their "doctor visit" back in July and was never refunded because the doctor labeled my dog aggressive in the report. Fire Dominique!!! She's GOD awful and rude!! She has a notorious reputation for being rude to patients. Bad reviews on her, including mine. I changed vets because of her. She never allowed me to talk to my vet, Dr. Dawson. Kept saying he was out and didn't know when he'd be in next. Never left him messages for me. She didn't approve my cat's Revolution flea medicine while he was still a patient because I told her she got bad reviews and that I was going to call corporate. I'm sure Dr. Dawson doesn't even know Chewy called for approval of Revolution. Chewy rep said she was tough and wouldn't let the rep speak with anyone else. So when I took my cat to Montecito Vet in Nov'24, the vet tech, Carissa, said that she gave him the rabies vaccine when it was supposed to be the upper respiratory vaccine. The vet went in the back to see what was going on. Then Carissa said oh, it was the correct vaccine, sorry. Then the next day, the same tech called and said my cat's blood test came out fine but he was never given a blood test. It was a fecal sample. Dominique said she misspoke. Two days in a row with the same client? At that point, I didn't trust anything they did. To this day, I am not confident that my cat was given the correct vaccine. At least Carissa was very polite. I spoke again to overbearing, domineering Dominique and she was so rude to me again. She is definitely a bully. She said Dr. Dawson answers to HER!! Dominique should NEVER be allowed to work with animals! She does not have the temperament, nor the compassion, sensitivity nor the professionalism to speak with patients and work with pets. The town of Montecito is one of the most expensive, classiest places to live and work in CA and the employees should reflect that. Clearly, Dominique doesn't reflect that. I called their sister office and told them how Dominique treated me and sadly, they weren't surprised. Get rid of that woman, Montecito. You are losing clients and respect by keeping her employed there. I immediately changed to a different vet hospital as I mentioned above and was happy to do so. I have also spread the work to many pet owners about my terrible experience there with Dominique, the bully, so they won't be visiting there anytime soon. For all of the people that are leaving negative reviews about this place there are several other vets that you can go to so please go there. We have been patients of this establishment for multiple years and they are kind, wonderful and try to do their best. Drs. Kirksey and Waikart are some of the best vets that we have ever had in our entire life. They have helped us so much with our dogs that were in pain,our dogs that were hurt, our dogs that we had to send over the rainbow bridge and general check ups. The staff is amazing! They have worked so well through the Covid, so for those of you that are complaining about having to stay out in the parking lot and that they cannot take you right away deal with it it's the way that it is right now. They are doing an excellent job and again please go somewhere else there are a lot of vets in this town. And if you don't live here go back to where you came from if you aren't happy. Dr. Waikart and her staff are amazing. She cares for your pets as if it's her own. We brought our small one in and she did what she could to try and determine what the cause was. We appreciate her referral to get the ultrasounds and potential surgery ( was informed she uses them for the hardest types of surgery and even had them perform a procedure on her pet- these are specialists). I don't know if they signed me up or if it was a offer through them, but I got visa gift card with a significant amount from buying heart worm and flea medication from them (yes it was legit and was able to use it). read more

I've been bringing my pets here for about 10 years. I notice there is a high turnover of vets. It doesn't seem like they stay too long. I have to call multiple times to get refills on my pets medications. Sometimes calling 3 or 4 times before it gets done. They are aware of the problem but it hasn't been rectified. Dr. Dawson is the man. During our very first consultation, he gave me a FULL HOUR of his time to patiently answer all of my questions with in-depth information and useful advice. I never thought I'd be writing a Yelp review for a vet, but he's earned my respect. He is very caring and gentle when examining my German Shepherd, and my boy gets excited now when he sees Dawson. It's great. For price reference, my last visit I paid about $490 for multiple X-rays, flea medication, consultation, and renewal for all vaccinations. The medical procedures and medications for my dog cost a little bit more at the Montecito Pet Hospital compared to the other places I tried in Ventura/Oxnard, but the friendly service and support here is unmatched and makes the few extra dollars well worth it. We love Dr. Badal and Dr. Dorian for all three of our pets: two pit/lab rescues and an elderly Maine Coon cat. I knew I was in the right place when the vets get right down on the floor with your pet and ask the right questions. The vet techs and reception staff are also excellent--friendly, patient and thorough. It's also great that we can go up to San Roque Pet Hospital if they have availability. We don't necessarily want to see the vet that often, but if you have to make a visit, I would highly recommend the MPH. read more
