I decided to go for a second opinion to Dr. Bradley Thomas and he informed me that I do have a gluteus medius tear however, that's not what was giving me the pain instead it was trochanteric bursitis and he treated me with a steroid injection. We got a next day early Saturday a.m. appointment and within 20-30 minutes he had x-ray and a diagnosis for surgery. Service was swift and staff was friendly and promised to call first thing Monday with details on surgery. Like clockwork we got the call and thus began the orchestration of pre-op labs and exam....stat as surgery was in a day and a half. We pulled it off, surgery went well and now the healing begins. This is my 2nd gig as a recovery coach, the 1st with my maman after her back surgery and this time with my guy's ankle. Can't say my bedside manner is stellar, but my cooking is terrific so no one goes hungry and my meals absolutely beat hospital food hands down. Ha! Turns out our next door neighbor knows Coastal Ortho well...she was treated by the team there and has only great things to report. My guy is in good hands and it's refreshing to know he'll be up and at 'em because of the fantastic care by the team there. Loads of parking. Easy to drive into and out of. Later I found out that he's an extremely respected surgeon who probably shouldn't be bothered with my little problem, but he treated me like I was a multimillion dollar athlete and not an old lady with a sore patella. Had bilateral knee surgery- recommended my my brother who had successful shoulder- rotator cup surgery. We both are huge fans of Dr. Mealer. I am personally not a fan of the way the scheduling process went (was scheduled for surgery and had to postpone it a full month because the back office didn't submit the proper paperwork to the insurance provider). Back office instructions had to be asked for repeatedly, and I still have at least one unresolved billing issue almost 6 months later. All large offices usually have some sort of hiccups but this is layers of such. Front office is excellent, friendly and efficient, back office needs work!

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE…read more I have never had a medical appointment where I felt so dismissed and unheard. I saw Dr. Striplin after a serious knee injury and came prepared with questions about my MRI and what my options were moving forward. Unfortunately, I barely had the opportunity to ask anything. From the moment the appointment started, I felt rushed. He repeatedly interrupted me, seemed more interested in talking than listening, and had his hand on the door for much of the visit, which made me feel like he was trying to end the appointment as quickly as possible. I have a partial meniscus tear, a cartilage defect/hole in my knee, bone bruising, and other MRI findings. The only thing he really focused on was telling me that my cartilage was gone and that he would not do surgery because "it would make it worse." When I tried to understand what I could do to help my knee, I was given no real plan other than being told I would "just get worse over the next few years." He even brought up that he rides his elliptical every morning, which felt completely irrelevant given that I was there looking for medical guidance. The appointment lasted maybe 7 to 8 minutes. As he was already leaving, I had to stop him and ask, "Am I not getting physical therapy?" He reluctantly agreed to order it. I also asked about a temporary handicap placard because I was struggling with my injury, and he looked at me and said, "That's for people with canes. You don't have a cane," before walking away. I left feeling embarrassed, frustrated, and completely dismissed. I can only imagine how difficult this experience could be for elderly patients or anyone who may not feel comfortable advocating for themselves. I decided to get a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon, and the difference was night and day. I was told my knee injury does require surgical intervention and that the defect needs to be addressed with a procedure involving bone and cartilage repair. I wish Dr. Striplin had taken the time to review my MRI in its entirety and explain my options instead of making me feel like I was wasting his time. I took time off work and waited over three weeks after my injury for this appointment, only to leave without answers or a clear treatment plan. My advice is to advocate for yourself and get a second opinion. A patient deserves to feel heard, respected, and cared for, especially when dealing with a serious injury. He is a full of himself jack@ass. Also saw other reviews on here saying he had his hand on the door for other patients and one guy said Dr. Striplin messed up his surgery had to be redone. The optimal window for this surgery is within 3 weeks of the injury, but because of the MRI delay, Dr. Nuccion wasn't able to do the surgery until 6 weeks after. 5 1/2 months later, I am still not fully recovered, but I am well on my way doing light pushups and resuming tennis. I don't know what full recovery looks like a couple of months from now in terms of my strength and athletic capacity compared to before, but it's 100% guaranteed to be far better than the massive limitations I would've had to live with for the rest of my life had Dr Nuccion not been able to pull off the surgery despite the delay. I was extremely impressed with the Surgery Center staff..they were prompt, efficient and amazing. Dr. Lim showed up before the surgery on time and did an amazing job!!!
