Office staff is AMAZING! Dr. Mehta however is AWFUL. When a patient comes back because the doctor tells you to when the doctor tells you to and then he walks in and says well I don't know what I said to you, that's bad. Then the patient says well I don't just make appointments whenever I want for whatever I want you obviously told me to do this and he said will I tell a lot of patients a lot of things. There is NO accountability on his part and that is unacceptable. There's no way I would have gotten away with that in my profession. The only reason he got one star is because this apple not allow me to give zero stars or negative stars for that matter. I was blown away by the lack of compassion and the extreme bias Dr Mehta was horrible at hiding. As an ortho RN of 21 years and as a middle-aged woman I have never come across such a nasty disposition during a history/consult. Good reminder of what patients have to deal with too often. Now I understand why it was so easy and quick to get a consult appt with him. I have been dealing with a scapula issue since 2017. I was seeing another doctor for a couple of years but he left my insurance. And, I got busy with grad school. Also, it was just symptom management and wasn't correcting the problem. I have done everything under to moon. Including spending thousands of dollars out of pocket to help me. The pain and soreness is unlike anything I have experienced. It has a "tortuous" psychological aspect to it. Kind of what I would imagine water drop on the forehead torture would be. It's painful and always snapping and popping. Pain is now radiating to other parts of my body. I didn't want surgery at the beginning but I'm starting to get desperate after dealing with this for years and it's getting worse. I'm very happy to start PT and shots again in hopes of bypassing sx. I was open on my forms and shared I have fibromyalgia (FM). However, it's been well-controlled for several years now. He was hyper-focused on that though. So rude and unprofessional. "Well your alignment (with my layers of clothes on) is fine and so is your strength". - Nothing to do with the pain and discomfort I experience. He was totally dismissive of my concerns and even the treatment I received in the past. He knows nothing about FM or "snapping scapula" if he thinks the specific symptoms of my scapula are due to FM. No way would I let this doctor touch me with a needle and he is not getting my business. For the first time... I got up, thanked him for his time, and walked out. I believe him to be biased toward overweight people, older people, women, and those with complex pain issues. Everyone has implicit bias but being a good provider means checking those at the door when you took an oath "to do no harm". The front office staff and MA were nice and professional, the office appeared clean, plenty of parking, fabric chairs in the waiting area, and the wait time was reasonable. read more

I had arthritis and bone spurs and bone chips in right elbow,optum picked Dr. Metha to be my surgeon for the procedure,boy was i lucky. After surgery no elbow pain more movement in arm. He also takes care of you after surgery, he explains everything you want to know. His staff is awesome fast and efficient,Ashley takes care of SDI forms super fast, this was very important to me. I broke my finger almost two months ago, I was referred to this place by my primary care physician. I first saw Dr. Lorman, he was friendly but I only spent about 10 minutes with him. He suggested I see Dr. Ahn, the hand specialist. Unfortunately he wasn't available the day I went so I had to reschedule for another day. When I finally saw Dr. Ahn, he had two options for me: to have surgery or let it heal on its own. I opted for surgery, I didn't want to end up with a Frakenstein finger, I've seen it myself! The way Dr. Ahn sees his patients, they are all overlapping. I believe he's only in the office on Fridays and is in the hospital the other days so he's very busy. There have been times where I'm waiting over 30 mins from my appointment time, then 5-10 minutes a couple of times. It's been very inconsistent. My finger has been healing pretty well these past couple of months. I've been doing my occupational therapy at least twice a week. I don't regret my decision at all. read more

Negative experience. Will not return here ever. Was told he would do my knee surgery when I weighed 205, then changed his mind then told me to loose 25 more pounds to 185 and he was insensitive/rude. A friend referred me to her ortho surgeon that did her surgery and he is excellent and does excellent work and a very caring doctor. read more

Back in 2014 I had my right hip replaced by Dr. Mikal Purne and everything went fantastic, unfortunately I needed my left done this year, May 4 2017 to be exact. I saw a pretty bad example of an orthopedic surgeon somewhere else, and had the sense to call my insurance company and ask for a different one. . I ended up with Dr. Akshay Mehta at this office on Telo Avenue in Torrance. How refreshing it was to have a doctor communicate their confidence and competence without being arrogant and disrespectful. Dr. Mehta takes all the time that you need for him to explain what needs to be done and to answer every single solitary question you might have. I went to surgery feeling completely certain that I was in the best hands. He was right on top of making sure physical therapy, other tests, and whatever what I'd need was arranged for very quickly. His staff is made up of knowledgeable, caring and kind people. If you call and they can't come to the phone, you immediately receive a text message giving you an alternate method to communicate and they respond immediately. If you ever need an orthopedic surgeon, this is the place to go if you want to be treated like an intelligent human being and get the treatment that you actually need. Dr Striplan diagnosed my thumb pain in 3 minutes gave me an injection which completely took away all pain from my tendon. trigger finger is what I had everyone said X-rays looked normal but he knew exactly what was up and where to inject me. hopefully I wont have anymore orthopedic problems but if I do I will always call Dr. Striplan Thanks For taking away my pain and worry that my thumb would never operate the same. Just saw Chris R. Mellano, M. D. for shoulder pain and mobility ~ he was very personable as well as attentive to my issue. His wealth of knowledge about swimming/water sports make him an empathetic understanding surgeon. He relates information with drawings explaining the specific injury and treatments. He explicitly communicated why my shoulder's anatomy had the mobility it has. As a collegiate athlete with grown children I am still an active non-competitive athlete. He encouraged me to stay active- unlike other doctors who have not. Yeah! Mellano gets "Baby Boomer Athletes!" The group of people I encountered today at ORTHOPEDIC SURGICAL SPECIALIST were amazingly great to make my visit "A good 5 star experience!" My appointment was at 4pm. I was finally seen at 5:45. The doctor seemed fine and the staff kept saying they would tell us how bad the delay was, but never did. I understand running behind (although an hour and 45 minutes is a bit much) but they have our phone numbers - why not call before the appointment and tell us the doctor is running behind? I've been here before but saw a different Dr. I was then sent back here to see someone else. Once again I had to fill out the paperwork and wait. And wait... And wait. This sucks. I mean they are all in the same freaking office. Why couldn't they just make a freaking copy of the first forms? Same crap. All their names are on the paper. Not like it's specific to one Dr. It took 37 mins to finally get called in. While waiting another 10 mins in the room I could hear them talking about other patients and personal stuff. Well anways, the Dr seems nice but, I hate it when I ask questions or say something I get ahuh, yeah. It's kinda like saying "yeah, ahuh.. Like I've never heard this before." Dr. Octavio Gonzalez took a lot of time (for these days at least) to be sure I understood his diagnosis, what I could do to self-heal, what eventual surgical solutions were available to me, and even proper exercise form given my condition (AC shoulder joint and related). He then spent 20+ minutes on the phone with me giving me his opinion on a procedure offered by another clinic! This is highly atypical these days and a huge benefit to me as a concerned patient. All this ... and he was standing in for Dr. Striplan who had a family emergency that day ... Extremely impressive given today's patient time standards. I would highly recommend him to anyone not looking for the typical drive-through experience. I just had my second total hip replacement surgery by Dr. Juan Frischano and would give him a ten plus rating if I could. Dr. Frischano did a fantastic job on my first hip replacement, which is why I chose him for the second hip replacement. Once again, he did a truly exemplary job. I am five weeks from the surgery and driving, walking without a limp, and planning on going back to the gym this weekend. Dr. Frischano is a brilliant surgeon with top medical school credentials, backed by years of experience. I would not even consider going to anyone else. In addition to his skill as a surgeon, Dr. Frisancho used cutting edge technology to ensure that my legs were straight and precisely even. Added to all of this is his great personality. Unlike most physicians, Dr. Frisancho is fun, funny, and extremely caring. In my opinion, he is the number one orthopedic surgeon in Southern California. Was referred to Dr. Lorman by my primary for back problems. I was in a lot of pain for a long time. My primary wanted an MRI done but it had to be recommended by Dr. Lorman. He told me there was no need for an MRI because all I had was chronic back pain (guess he had X-ray vision) and all I needed was physical therapy. I had an MRI done on my own and turns out I have a bulging disc, spinal stenosis, and severe disk desiccation. read more

I met with Dr. Donald Striplin. I am not exagerrating when I say he has one of the best bedside manners. You never know what you're going to get when you meet with a doctor, but he was kind, thorough, and very helpful in making sure my orthopedic issues were addressed. Long waits! Why do they even bother with an appointment... Every time I have been here you have to wait an hour before you are called in ..

I have worked with three of the doctors here and I was completely satisfied with their work. Twice for me and twice for both of my sons. I am holding back one star for the office staff. When I had a surgery that required forms for my work, the office staffed goofed and I was still forced to pay for forms that I did not receive. My son was a patient we received bill upon bill for something that was already paid via POS in their office. I like the doctors and medical staff, but if you go there, be sure to hang on to every receipt and get the name of secretaries and receptionists. read more

I would never go anywhere else! Dr. Turek and Dr Purne are just the best at their work! My mother has several situations that needed their care :-( but she is still going strong after their surgeries. I, myself, then requested Dr Purne for my broken hip. I am so pleased with his skill and I have recovered 100%. Unfortunately, I have had another situation that required my visit.
