I bought my first mattress from Monterey Mattress in 2005 and was pleased to use it until just recently, when we bought a new house and needed a bigger mattress. The lady that owned the house before us had passed away and her nephew, who lived out of state, sold the house and left some of her furniture. Two of the bedrooms had Organic Monterey Mattresses and were in perfect shape so we decided to keep them. She only had high-quality furniture and taste so I wasn't surprised she had these mattresses! In June 2021, we slept on a brand-new Monterey Mattress at a motel in Carmel Valley. When we were there again in November 2021, I made an appointment with Bryan and ordered a queen Natural Touch mattress. It took a few weeks for delivery, due to issues beyond their control. But it did arrive, and their delivery guys were great. They took the old mattress and helped me encase the new one. These mattresses are fairly expensive, but we expect to get years of enjoyment from it. In two weeks I know I'm already sleeping better. read more

Regrettably Flaky. Unlike most mattress stores where you can walk in at your own convenience, you have too make an appointment to get into the store. While they say the appointment will be at your convenience, Nancy is busy with other work in the mornings. I wanted new mattresses for the house. So I made an appointment for Wednesday afternoon May 29th. When I was there, I asked Nancy to get answers in writing from the owner Brian for me on the questions I had about sag tolerance, edge support and lumbar support. She was very nice. Told Nancy that i wanted to get 3 organic mattresses - 1 Cal King and 2 Queens. She said the organic part would add $1,000 to the price tag of each. She promised to have an email for me the following day with answers. Nothing. I emailed her on the 31st to follow up, and she said Brian was recovering from major surgery (strange she hadn't mentioned anything about that on the 29th as a deterrent to getting a response from him) and she and Brian were meeting that afternoon between 2-5. I heard nothing back. Not then, not on the 1st, not on the 2nd, not on the 3rd or the 4th. I emailed with "??" on the 5th. No response. No email or call on the 6th. A 3 mattress order would have been a big sale. However, their lack of follow up is a huge red flag. In my opinion it felt like a lack of courtesy, and less than ideal communication. Because of this, they will not get my business. My personal feelings are that If a customer who will be spending well over $10,000 dollars can't get emails and answers to questions before they place an order, imagine how bad it could be if there is a problem after Gingerich's gets your money. I also find it quite odd that a store that claims they have been so successful for so many years selling mattresses has so few Yelp reviews. When I asked Nancy about this, she stated that it is because their customers are old and don't yelp. But Yelp started in 2004. Hmmm. I cannot recommend them to anyone. Buyer beware. read more

If you live in the SF Bay Area, don't overlook Monterey Mattress. We were staying at a four star hotel in Monterey when we first experienced one of their mattresses. I woke up without feeling sore or sweaty (dreaded memory foam that's become ubiquitous) for the first time in years. Years. I asked the hotel front desk and they immediately handed me Monterey Matresses' information - must be a common request! I dealt with Brian, the owner, and he was friendly and forthright. I told him what I wanted (the exact same mattress I slept on at the hotel, and he delivered one to my door in San Francisco within two weeks for a reasonable fee. Several months later the persistent back problems and night sweats I was having are gone from trying other pricey brands (Naturepedic & Birch). Just a quality traditional spring mattress that will last for 10+ years (I checked the manufacture date on the hotel mattress I slept on - 2008?? and it still felt like new). After the first month, we ordered another queen mattress from Brian - what more can I say. They are not cheap, but also not super pricey - totally worth it for the quality and durability which I could not fault or find elsewhere at comparable prices. read more

I love my mattress.. love my mattress.. LOVE my mattress!!! One thing I can say for sure, Brian Gingerich's mattresses are consistent. I bought a Queen size for my move up to Washington State some years ago. When I moved back to PG I sold it 'cause the house could only fit a double. Now, I'm living in a larger place, so I sold the double and got a new Queen again! I've been extremely happy with all of them, and I cannot say how much I appreciate Brian's courteous sales approach. His beds are AWESOME!!! For one thing, he uses only the best materials.. AND, they are FLIPPABLE! Remember when mattresses used to be on BOTH SIDES? Have you checked out new mass-produced mattresses lately? THEY ARE ONLY ON ONE SIDE~!! That's so they will only last half as long, and you have to buy one sooner. In my opinion? that sucks! I'm a headcase when it comes to decisions but after talking things over we went with a one-sided organic cotton Natural Touch mattress and nailed it on the first shot. I scheduled a visit with Brian after sleeping on one of his mattresses at a hotel. The mattress was so comfortable that I pulled back all the bedding in order to find out who made it. I called Monterey Mattress and spoke with Brian directly. My husband and I took the trip from the Bay Area and visited the store, which is located in Carmel. The store is small and because of Covid, by appointment only. Brian was great, very informative and passionate about his family business. He has only a couple of models. He provided us brand new pillows and cases so that we could try the mattresses. He even left the store so that we wouldn't be rushed. We opted for the upgraded organic latex model which was still reasonably priced. I really like that it does not have a pillow top, so you can actually turn it over. We also opted to buy a wool topper, and he was able to get us substantial discounts on linens. The mattress arrived a few weeks later, and his crew took out the old mattress and even put the new mattress in a dust mite protection encasement. I just have to say that the mattress and topper are absolutely heavenly. It's a perfect combination of support from the mattress and cushion from the topper. What's been amazing is that I have had neck discomfort when sleeping for years. I've tried every pillow in the world, but until this new mattress, nothing worked. We are so happy with this purchase.
