Yesterday on the 5th of July 2025, I ordered 3 burritos and nachos I took it home to have dinner with my family and i live around the corner from Monterrey restaurant, I got home and the meat was already smelling rotten I had to throw the food away! Pretty dark inside (don't come for the atmosphere) but do come for the food! We love to stop in here on our way home after a long work day. The staff is friendly & the food is made fresh to order. We've tried burritos, tamales, & plates of meat & have yet to be disappointed. My only wish is that they served stew on days other than Fridays but it's a local small business so I understand that they may not be able to serve all types of food every day. This was a couple of years ago, an I haven't been back since. Used to go for the delicious burritos. One day I went and it smelled like Victoria Secret lotion inside. Didn't think anything of it. Ordered my food and went home to eat. Opened my burrito and instantly smelled the lotion once again. Apparently whom ever made my burrito had the lotion on their hands and it was on the tortilla. Quick & delicious! Very friendly and accommodating staff. In my opinion this is by far the best, most reasonable restaurant in Orange Cove. Tender beef, soft, fluffy rice and delicious salsa. I've never ordered anything from here that wasn't delicious. Wayyy better than the grease filled, overpriced entrees the OC Taco Shop down the street serves... Would definitely recommend! read more

What a treat after hiking all day in Kings Canyon and Sequoia. We were in the mood for Mexican food but would have settled for a good place which is generally hard to find around the state parks. This place is located in Orange Cove which didn't seem to have many options. We got there at 8:30pm and ordered a chicken burrito, carne asada plate, and beef tongue ( which was a replacement for the chile Colorado that they were out of). Tamales were not available At this late hour either. The food was fresh. Beef tongue was tender and a great recommendation from the waitress. And my kids loved the carne asada and beans. It was a hit! A very good meal overall. No ambience but food really hit the spot! read more

I was coming down 63 from Kings Canyon on a Sunday afternoon. There's not a lot between Grant Village and Orange Cove. It was well after normal lunch time, so I pulled into town. There's not a lot in Orange Cove. I didn't see anything on my first pass through. The only thing that Yelp could recommend was the Monterrey Tortilleria. Didn't look like much from the street. I rolled the dice and went for it. It was pretty good. My party of three got chicken quesadillas, beef burrito, and tamales. All were better the respectable, the quesadillas topping the list. All plentiful, with quality ingredients, and well prepared. $19.25 for the whole group. Worth the stop. I'm somewhat tortured by giving this place three stars, which will lower its overall rating from four (one review!) to 3.5. But I'm a tough grader. I can't give four stars to a place where you have to order at the counter and you have to empty your own trash. On the other hand, what it tries to do it does well. It's way better than Taco Bell. So I decided that if I ever rate a Taco Bell it will have to be two, so I can rate it a full notch below Monterrey Tortilleria. read more

Fantastic nachos. Pretty solid burritos too (I'd recommend asking the ladies to put a little nacho cheese in your burrito). Customer service can be iffy though. Not a lot of people dine in so it doesn't come up often I imagine but if they get your order wrong they'll NEVER admit it was their mistake. Even if you are just trying to get your order fixed and not argue with them, they'll be sure to point at the paper where they wrote your order wrong and tell you that you ordered wrong. It's actually kind of funny sometimes. But they mostly sell Nachos and Burritos so it doesn't happen much. read more

Bad service bad food! Went for my 30 min break with my coworkers we all ordered burgers except one of us ordered a burrito they gave the people that ordered after us their food first which included 3 burritos my coworker finally got up and told em about his burrito seemed that they forgot about his. The burgers were no good over cooked dry no flavor the fries horrible some soggy and others overly cooked. Fries seemed to have been microwaved cooked and to top it off they took 40 mins to make our food. Sad thing only place in town. I suggest subway down the street. read more
