    Cabins have a doggie door

We had a great stay here over the holidays in a small cabin. I loved the fact you could come here to get away from it all to have peace and quiet (you don't even have interact with anyone to check in or check out) or you could make some new friends (they have weekend, bring your own s'mores bonfires). Here are some of the best parts of our stay: Super cozy cabin that is well stocked. They have all the essentials: board games, books, magazines, paper towels, extra towels and linens and bathroom spray. The kitchen although small was really well stocked with appliances and tools for cooking. Really close to Charlottesville (30 min) and tons of breweries and vineyards. The gas fireplace in the cabins can heat the place up fast. We had the windows open for most of our stay The trails around this place were super easy and clearly labelled. The outerloop around the lake/pond thingie a nice light hike that's great for families and pugs in wheelchairs The availability of canoes and mountain bikes for campers to borrow. The entrance and ceremony field is adorable for weddings. Super dog friendly, with dog doors in the cabin. Although there are signs everywhere not to wash your pets in the cabin. Not sure what that is about. The not so great parts: Really low water pressure. I am guessing because the hot water heaters are pint sized. The shower is like being peed on. I put off hair washing for awhile. Not enough locks. As someone who has watched Friday the 13th and is convinced that mass murderers hit up campsites, there are not enough locks on the windows and doors for my comfort. The window locks were missing or broken and the front door had a broken screen door latch and only one lock. I also enjoy how there were ladders under the porch to assist the mass murderers with a little B&E. Zero cell phone reception. This ties into the mass murderer part above. but they do have wifi that's slow so I guess you could email 911. Follow their websites directions to get here because you will have no GPS. Ok even though I was super paranoid about the lack of security and my hair is starting to form dreadlocks like they did in sixth grade outdoor education, I found myself missing this place this morning which means we are definitely going back, I'll just have to remember to bring the mace and dry shampoo this time.

    Pawpaw cabin

It was a much needed weekend summer getaway and we stayed at pawpaw cabin overlooking the lake. We had a great time as the cabin was cozy and homey. The resort offers a lot of amenities that we enjoyed such as canoeing, biking and we went hiking at sugar hollow falls and winery at Stinson vineyard. Overall, it was a peaceful, relaxing and fun experience and we'd love to come back again during fall season.

I attended a beautiful late spring wedding here, and it really felt like we were FAR, FAR away from civilization. It was great, except there was literally zero phone service or wifi in the entire vicinity. It was actually a very nice change of pace because it allowed all us guests to really focus on the beautiful wedding and being in the present. However, my friend and I were a little nervous about finding our way out of there and back home! Not to worry, Waze had saved our route somehow and we were able to get back home without being lost! Back to the venue - the landscape and views are breathtaking which I highly recommend for photos. I can't speak to the pricing or customer service details, but from what I saw as a wedding guest, everything was executed flawlessly. There was plenty of parking and the walk from the outside ceremony area to the reception was quite short. It was outdoorsy and beautiful!

    Paw Paw cottage

We had a nice stay at Montfair resort farm. We stayed at the A-frame Paw Paw cottage which has the best views in my opinion because it sits directly across from the lake. The cottage comes supplied with linens, towels, hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, and paper towels for your stay. They even provide you with a nice sample of coffee and tea which was nice. They give you the option to add farm fresh eggs and handmade soaps to your account so when you arrive for your stay you'll have eggs ready for you in the fridge for breakfast and lovely soap to use during your stay. They also provide packaged bar soap as well as shampoo and conditioner it feels like staying in a hotel. I loved that they are very eco conscious and take a lot of thought in the products they provided. Recycling bins are provided at each cottage and once full you place them by the street and they will empty them for you. That was convenient because we have stayed other places and they don't provide disposal and you need to take it to the nearest dumpster and most places don't have recycling available. We saw beautiful deer around the campground almost every day we were there. We even saw an owl perched on the tree next to our cottage. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable. They provided essential cooking utensils and cutlery as well as appliances. The cottage is also pet friendly. There are many options close by to enjoy with family or friends. We noticed lots of wineries and breweries. We spent most of our time biking, hiking, and driving through skyline drive. We enjoyed some of the local restaurants and the nearest grocery store isn't far but there is also two mom and pop shops very close and the staff is very helpful and friendly. We will definitely keep Montfair resort in mind for any future stays if we find ourselves in the area in the future.

We just came home from our second visit to Montfair. We love the beautiful untouched forest and quiet atmosphere. Our children loved fishing, hiking and getting outside exploring. Our dogs even got to come along too. The cabin was comfortable and well equipped. It had everything we needed. Highly recommend Montfair. We are looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed here for three nights and overall, we enjoyed our stay; the grounds are beautiful and the cottages are cozy. However, there are some caveats: stink bugs, large ants and what turns out are carpenter bees. Upon our arrival we cleaned up dead stink bugs and large ants and not just a few. Over the course of three days I killed at least 15 stink bugs and maybe 10 large ants that were found crawling on the ground and in the kitchen, despite the fact that we didn't leave any food out. On our last full day we returned back to our cottage and found the black, buzzing creatures swarming around our cottage. I spoke with management later and apparently they are carpenter bees, which are harmless and they are working on eliminating them. The staff is great and everyone I spoke with was very nice. When the sun began to go down the flying beasts were in their little nests so we were able to enjoy sitting outside while BBQing. All of the cottages have charcoal grills and we used ours every night of our stay. During the day we enjoyed using the mountain bikes at the farm and did some biking right on the property, we also canoed in the "lake," which is really a pond, but it's still nice and canoeing was a lot of fun. Charlottesville is only about 30 minutes away so we checked out the town and farmers market, both of which we enjoyed. You can't do much hiking right on the grounds; I suppose you could walk around and explore the property, but biking around is much more fun. We did the Moorman's river hike, just fifteen minutes away by car. There are also several wineries close by, we visited Kings Family Vineyards and it was great! Apparently there are breweries nearby as well, but we didn't check those out. Each cabin comes with a binder full of Google maps to help you find cool places to check out and we found that to be very helpful. The farm is definitely in a great location with tons to do. However, given the flying beasts and bugs we aren't sure that we would stay here again; I've stayed in cabins in the woods before and I understand that there are insects in nature, but I've never had to deal with so many of them before. I definitely recommend this place if you're able to secure a cottage that's been updated so that you experience fewer bugs, unless you enjoy that kinda thing.

It is the coziest little getaway in Luray situated on an absolutely beautiful property. There are five cabins in total that are intended to be a couple's getaway, so the property is always very quiet and peaceful. It feels very connected to nature- we've seen deer very close to each of the structures when we've stayed. We've had the pleasure of staying in the Dragonfly, Bumblebee, and Ladybug cabins and have really enjoyed each one- they all have a similar feel but are built slightly differently. This time around, we were in the Bumblebee cabin, which is quite spacious and shares a structure with the Dragonfly cabin. There was a gas fireplace and a TV downstairs where we spent most of our time reading; there was also a couch upstairs in the hallway outside of the bedroom, and a cute balcony we probably would have spent time on if it was warmer! It is absolutely the kind of place where you can just stay in your cabin the entire time you're there, but it's also located pretty close to Sperryville and downtown Luray if you're looking to venture out. To fully take advantage of SME, I'd recommend bringing your own food or groceries to cook- there's not a whole lot close by (which is part of the charm!), but the kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, oven, and stovetop. There's a pizza place that delivers right to the cabins, which is nice- honestly, the pizza isn't very good, but it's nice to have the option. There are also bottles of wine available for purchase in your cabin, which is nice to have available. You won't meet two nicer people than the owners of SME, Karen and Ralph. It is so clear how much they love SME and sharing their love of the property, which reflects their travels through Europe, with those who stay there. There will always be a delicious baked treat from Karen waiting in your cabin when you arrive, and if you're lucky, she or Ralph will show you around the property and tell you about the structures, all of which were built by Ralph and designed by them both. They are so friendly and kindhearted and make it such a special place to stay. As just one example- it snowed one of the nights we stayed, and Ralph cleared off our car without us even asking. SME feels so calm and peaceful- it's a true VA oasis. We're already planning our next trip back!

Logwood - Renter Beware!!!…read more Video/pictures are carefully presented to not depict what you will be truly getting. If you are looking for a private cabin in the woods with easy access to a creek right outside the back door, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. - The cabin is located on a well-traveled road, not off the beaten path via the gravel drive depicted. - There are two additional homes right next door - a big rating of 0 for privacy. - The inside is extremely small (which was ok), but the photos do not accurately depict what is there. The full size washer/dryer (in the kitchen) is overkill in this little space , no cute table & chairs; instead an ugly bar thing. The furnishings are more than a little worn; look like they came from a bad second-hand store. - Bath is ok; no shower. - Upstairs is a one room loft. The video depicts 2 full size beds, the written description states 3. Which is it? Three beds and dressers, which makes for very little space to even move around. I can't imagine 6 adults sleeping up there. - If you are disabled or elderly, you will not be able to enjoy the creek in the back as one must navigate a steep vertical slope down/up. And, I mean steep! - While the cabin is set up to sleep a hand full of people, the size is truly for no more than 2 - even three would be pushing it. - As we didn't stay, I can't really comment on the kitchen (it "appeared" adequate) or the condition/comfort of the beds. We wanted to get away from it all, not be sharing our time with the neighbors next door and not be able to enjoy the creek and surrounding woods. Suffice it to say, people do not pack up with 2 large dogs, fill up with gas (which is not cheap these days), and travel for several hours only to turn around and leave. While we were offered to try another cabin, we declined in that we really didn't want to deal with folks who had been so deceptive from the get go and continued to place the blame on us since we didn't investigate the property on Google Maps. Really!!! We were offered a 50% refund, of which we only received a portion. We should have been refunded 100% for the pet fee charge and the arm load of fire wood we purchased, plus an error in their math when initially charging us. As far as I'm concerned, we should have been refunded for every penny.
