The 1804 Inn is the inn at Barboursville Vineyards. It's a nice place to stay if you're spending the weekend exploring wineries in the area, or you could do what we did and stay one night after going to a tasting at Barboursville and eating at their restaurant, Palladio. It's pricey, and there are definitely cheaper options in the area that are still perfectly nice, but the rooms here are quite large, and they have a lot of nice extra touches. Our suite was actually two rooms, with a fireplace in the main room, a bathroom with double sinks, a private garden, and a balcony that wrapped around the suite and overlooked the grounds and the ruins. We also received a complimentary bottle of wine, a free tasting at Barboursville, a fruit and cheese tray, as much water and assorted San Pellegrino as we wanted, internet access, and breakfast (fyi, great biscuits, bacon, and coffee). Considering all this, the prices, though high, are justified. I liked my stay here and found myself wishing that we were staying an extra night. If you're looking for quiet and peaceful, this is it. My only complaint is the booking process. You can't reserve a room online, which is pretty surprising since their web site is otherwise fully functional. To reserve a room you need to send them an email to find out which rooms are available on which weekends and then wait for someone to call you to confirm your reservation. Frankly it's a pain and I don't know why they don't let you book online like everyone else in the world. This, along with the fact that, depending on the time of year, you'll likely need to book a couple months in advance, is the only drawback.

We stayed two nights and found it quite relaxing and fun. It's a great jumping off place for exploring wineries, local dining, and historical sites, but equally good as a retreat location. We did a lot of reading on the grounds...hammocks, chairs, and benches abound. Details like coffee and tea anytime, filling and fancy breakfasts with choice ingredients, all homemade, and an abundance of flora and fauna to enjoy made it a bespoke, boutique experience. As we sat listening to the early morning birds from our balcony, identifying all the trees we could spot, my husband said, "Worth every penny!" Agreed.

Nestled amidst rolling hills just outside of Luray, the location offered stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Finding the B&B was a breeze, and upon arrival, I was immediately charmed by the property's historic character, perfectly complemented by modern amenities. **Comfort and Convenience** The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was incredibly inviting, and the ensuite bathroom provided everything I needed. Piney Hill truly goes the extra mile with thoughtful touches - from having spare toiletries on hand (lifesaver alert for that forgotten floss!) to individual climate control - ensuring a perfectly relaxing stay. **The Heart of Piney Hill: Hank, Wiley, and Bob** However, the heart and soul of Piney Hill lie with the wonderful innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their warm hospitality and engaging conversation made each breakfast a highlight. Their stories and kindness were truly heartwarming, and I found myself looking forward to these morning chats just as much as exploring the Shenandoah National Park nearby. **Breakfast Fit for Royalty** Speaking of breakfast, it was without a doubt the best food I had on my entire trip. From the melt-in-your-mouth sticky buns to the heavenly French toast and the savory sage-egg-sausage bake, each morning was a culinary delight. **A Must-Stay for Shenandoah Valley Travelers** Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a base to explore the national park, or simply a place to unwind amidst breathtaking scenery, Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect choice. I can't recommend them enough! In fact, if you're staying nearby and can't swing a stay, I highly recommend checking out their take-out bakery. **A Fond Farewell (and a Scratch for Bob!)** Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for making my stay so special. And please give Bob the dog an extra scratch on the head for me! I can't wait to return to the Shenandoah Valley and Piney Hill in the future.

They also accept pets for a small fee. Just don't leave your pet to bark while your out eating at the amazing restaurants in downtown Crozet. It's a only a few miles away from the Inn, so you won't feel "too far in the woods". We stayed in the farmhouse, but when I get back there again I'd like to stay in the main house (without a dog). The views from the upstairs windows were breathtaking! Looking forward to going back and hiking the trails again. There is a great swimming hole up the road, just ask the innkeepers for directions. This would be an excellent place to hold a family reunion as they have two locations on the same property. The field between the inn and the farmhouse would be great for volleyball/football or any sport really. Looking forward to coming back! The innkeepers are so nice and even gave my dog water while we had breakfast al fresco! We met great people here too! I love the area!

When we arrived, the sheets still needed to be changed in the room, so we sat in one of the many outdoor spaces. Outdoor furniture could use some updating. I did not like the beverages and snacks available throughout the property. The beds in the Burke Room were a little too soft. I didn't mind so much but my friend with a bad back had some trouble sleeping. I could tell pets are welcome because there was a bit of dog hair on the comforter. The sheets were clean though. The highlight of the trip is the breakfast. Alan is the host with the most! The french toast casserole, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and jam, homemade granola, and yogurt were delicious. The best part was getting to know the other couple staying at the bed and breakfast. You will love the knick knacks throughout the property and there are games to help you relax. We were only about 30 minutes away from Charlottesville.

The daily homemade granola was a winner (yogurt, locally produced honey)!! This is the best bed and breakfast, by far! You'll be stuffed!! Our two night stay was spectacular. We will return again and highly recommend it. As a bonus, you're greeted by Sweetie (the adorable cockatoo)!! Alan provided wonderful hospitality and conversation. The room had everything and more. Pro tip -- as we did -- visit UVA (rotunda), wineries, cider tasting (Bold Rock Nellysford), Carter Mountain Orchard (more Bold Rock, apple cider donuts, cookies, apple pie, hayride, pick your own apples, wine tasting), breweries (Devils Backbone), movies (Alamo Drafthouse), Wegmans (grocery), restaurants (Rhett's River Grill & Raw Bar, Burtons Grill, Sedona Taphouse). Spring and summer guests can lounge outside on the deck, plenty of seats. Next stay, we want to try some German fare at Bavarian Chef (closest restaurant), visit James Madison Montpelier plantation, and catch UVA hoops, football! See y'all soon Alan and Sweetie!! Again, bring your appetite!!

I haven't stayed at many places that feel more like a five-star resort than this one. Driving up to the property felt like being in a car commercial, rolling hills, gorgeous scenery, and impeccable service waiting the moment we arrived. Check-in was seamless. We stayed in one of the rooms in the new wing, which was absolutely stunning. In 2017, the hotel completed a multi-year, $2 million renovation and expansion, and it shows in every detail. Our room overlooked the grounds and was part of the beautiful new addition. The room itself was spacious and elegant, with a wonderfully comfortable bed and a cozy nook perfect for reading or relaxing. The bathroom was equally luxurious and practically begged for a long shower. Waiting for us in the room was a handwritten note wishing us a wonderful mother-daughter trip, along with thoughtful gifts from the spa. Another nice touch: branded, reusable water bottles to use at the filling stations around the property. I loved this sustainability piece that doubles as a keepsake. During our stay, I walked the grounds, visited the spa, and toured the Southern Living Idea House which is on its ground, though honestly, this is the kind of hotel where simply staying on property feels like a vacation. Because we visited in winter, the pool was closed, but seeing it made me want to return in the spring. The fitness center was well appointed, the tennis court s and area were beautiful, and the championship golf course was gorgeous! I'm not a golfer, but I loved looking at this course from the mini windows and patios overlooking it! I'll share more about the spa in a separate review, but trust me, it is not to be missed. And the on-site restaurant, Marigold, is an absolute delight. Jean-Georges' effortless style comes through in both the ambiance and the food. We enjoyed two dinners and a brunch there, and I genuinely wish I could have eaten even more. Wow. Another standout perk is the fleet of BMWs available for guests to check out and explore the surrounding area. We chose to only venture out once, to Jefferson Vineyard, but there is plenty to explore in the greater Charlottesville area for those wanting more. In closing, this hotel is incredible! Perfectly styled and wonderfully relaxing. I will be thinking about it and my lovely time there for many years to come!

From the moment we checked in, every staff member we interacted with went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They also provided us with a lot of recommendations which we appreciated. When we first arrived, we had a quick lunch at the grille. It overlooked the driving range with a beautiful view. They had a lot of food options. I got the chicken sandwich and it was delicious. We also dined at Marigold each morning for breakfast, as it was included in our stay. The omelet was amazing! We ate at Marigolds for dinner as well the last night, and the food was truly unbelievable. There's clearly a focus on fresh, local ingredients, and the menu offers something for everyone. Highly recommend the truffle pizza and the shrimp salad! We also took advantage of the spa during our stay. We each had a massage / facial. The spa was also beautifully set up, and I really enjoyed the steam room and sauna. The only thing that would've made it even better is if there was a private pool for the spa guests to use as well. The massage was wonderful though and very relaxing! We also got to enjoy the pool. It wasn't too crowded and the pool itself was luxurious. Keswick Hall is truly a gem in Charlottesville. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!
