Pat and Monica were excellent hosts. Every room was well decorated, well maintained, and clean. The common areas are beautiful and, once again, well maintained. Every morning the Keurig coffee maker was filled with water and ready, with cups, along with bottled water. Pat or Monica would check in periodically and were very responsive the few times we needed them. Finally, the Holladay House is located in downtown Orange. There are excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance. If you are staying in Orange, or close by, we highly recommend staying at the Holladay House.

The house has been redone and the decor inside is new and contemporary but still fits with the period of the older home. Rooms are beautiful, clean and well-kept and there was a Roku on the tv with wifi. The back door has a keypad lock so you can come and go as you please with ease and there was a welcome package with snacks, jam, and a handwritten welcome note. Location is great because, with ample parking in the back of the home, you can walk around the town to antique, explore and eat at one of a dozen or more restaurants. They don't do the traditional breakfast but had a small bar well-stocked with coffee, tea, bananas, fresh pastries, and juice and water. Enough for me! Usually I kind'a wanna go out and explore on my own anyway and the town has several nice places for brunch (Spoon and Spindle was my fav). Pat was great and communicative through email/text but wasn't hovering in the way some B&B owners are. There to greet me but then left me alone to enjoy the stay but was available for questions if I had any.... perfect! Would absolutely come back any time.

The elevator was out of service most of our stay which was very inconvenient. We were locked outside in the heat because the code to the door wouldn't work on the stair access. Checking out and carrying everything (lots of infant supplies, stroller, etc.) down the stairs was difficult. Once again no concern from management/customer service when notified.

Stopped downstairs in the restaurant to look around and a gracious waitress directed us to maps and told us to come by if we needed anything although she was busy doing other things, too. My…read morewife and I had booked a 4-night stay over the 4th of July weekend (total cost over $1,000) but we checked out 2 nights early because of the state of the property. If you're looking for a fun, comfortable, outdoorsy stay in the area, check out the Postcard Cabins instead! THE GOOD: The property is located in a beautiful area. Views are great. I really like the food at Bearr Appetit restaurant -- kudos to the chef! THE BAD: Customer service is poor. I get the impression management must have simply stopped caring at some point. Example 1: I tried contacting the property multiple times before our reservation. Half the time, nobody answered the phone. I left a voicemail once and nobody responded. The two times someone answered, they promised to call me back with an answer to my question, but never did. Example 2: The morning of July 4, only one server showed up on time for her shift at Bearr Appetit. The poor girl was HUSTLING to keep up with multiple tables, indoors and outdoors, in hot and humid weather. I'm standing alone at the host stand waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes. A manager (owner?) is sitting at the cash register counting the money. Finally the manager/owner stands up, starts heading the the kitchen, sees me, and asks, "Are you waiting to be seated?" I say yes. She POINTS AT THE POOR WAITRESS who's struggling to keep up and says, "She'll be right with you." Then proceeds into the kitchen. Finally I asked the waitress if I should seat myself, which she appreciated and agreed to. Example 3: Upon departing 2 nights early due to the condition of the property (discussed below), my wife wrote an email explaining the issues and asking if they'd refund one night as a compromise. It's been a week now and we're starting to doubt we'll ever get so much as an acknowledgement. THE UGLY: My wife and I stayed with our dog in the Speckled Owl cabin. It's a good sized, secluded property, but it soon became clear to us that management puts minimal effort into maintaining it. Example 1: The first thing we noticed was that the ground floor was COVERED IN DEAD MILLIPEDES. We immediately called maintenance, who promptly came to vacuum them up. But in less than 24 hours, the floor was COVERED IN LIVING MILLIPEDES. This made the first floor basically unusable to us. If we needed something from the kitchen we had to tiptoe around the bugs. By Day 2, the millipedes were migrating upstairs to the bedroom. (That's when my wife decided we needed to go.) Example 2: Enormous cobwebs everywhere, inside and outside. Example 3: Patio and terrace furniture was filthy and disgusting. Bird poop and other crap all over the chairs and tables. Example 4: Linens and towels were old and worn to the point that we wondered how clean they were. Example 5: The mattress was awful. You can feel the the springs and if one person moves, everyone moves. Bottom line, we were extremely disappointed in Lydia Mountain Lodge & Cabins. We feel there's a lot of potential to make this into a special place given the wonderful location, but that the current ownership/management has no real interest in the guest experience.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay, the views of the mountains were gorgeous! We like to get out in nature and the hiking trails nearby were awesome, White Oak Falls probably being my favorite. There were quite a few local wineries that were also a treat. The House was very comfortable, it rents by whole house or by room, and although we only rented a room, we got lucky and had the whole house to ourselves that weekend! The kitchen was nicer then my kitchen and such a pleasure to cook in. :) It was tastefully decorated, our bed super comfortable, we felt right at home. Grilled on the patio one night and enjoyed the sunset. It's nice to have a change of scenery! I plan of staying at the Hood House again, and would happily recommend it to others!

The House is situated at the foot of beautiful mountains, with spectacular views. There is a lovely en suite bedroom on the first floor, and 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms on the second floor. Each large room is beautifully decorated with vintage furniture. The living room and dining room are big enough to host a party, and the kitchen is ready for a chef. If you're attending a wedding at the nearby Early Mountain Vineyard, this is the perfect place to stay; roomy enough to accommodate an entire wedding party. Our guests loved the Hood House, and so will you. It is a real 'winner'.....
