Prices here are low compared to other established and more commercial pharmacies which is why we are one of their loyal patrons even if we live in Maryland. We still go to a nearby pharmacy but if we can we prefer them hands down. They have helpful staff as well!

I have visited this store a few times and had positive interactions. Today there was an issue with…read morebilling my sons Medicaid as secondary so I told them I would have to leave the medication and make some phone calls. I called Medicaid and they called the pharmacy with me on the line. During the conference call with Medicaid and Giant pharmacy, the Medicaid rep puts us on hold to review the error code for the claim that was being billed because the giant pharmacy staff wouldn't ask for assistance from her colleagues despite my asking her if she would be willing to do so. During the hold, while I had introduced myself and spoke several times on the call, the pharmacy rep must have forgotten. She says to a colleague, "this person doesn't know what the hell they are doing... this is so fucking annoying" I then take myself off mute and let her know I am on the line so she wouldn't continue to make unprofessional comments. To which she replies that she will put herself on mute because I have an attitude or better yet she will just get the pharmacist. She then said, "I know you are frustrated, we are frustrated too." I was shocked at her comments because most of the call I sat silently outside of confirming my insurance and the amount they were trying to charge. I asked her not to assign her frustration to me since I was not the one using profanity on the line and accusing others of being incompetent. She put the pharmacist on the line and I let the pharmacist know, and all she said was, "I'm sorry about that" as if it was just a long wait time. I get insurance billing sucks, but that doesn't mean you treat me as less than because of a computer glitch. Absolutely deplorable treatment I received today. My main fear was that they were not going to get my sons meds because of an insurance issue. At the end of the day there are still people attached to these systems. I didn't deserve that treatment or response to trying to help HER not say more insulting things while I was on the line with the insurance rep.

I spoke to the staff pharmacist Brenda Ballantine and she was condescending, unhelpful, and yelled details of my prescription and costs from the back of the pharmacy over 10 feet away. There was another customer and a pharmacist nearby who could hear the whole conversation. This is in violation of HIPAA privacy laws which she must have been aware of. I ended up paying full price for my prescription because it was easier and faster than dealing with her and I didn't want to have this conversation with so many people listening. After I got home I spoke to a friend about the experience and they said that she had done the same thing to them. I can only hope the pharmacy manager reads this and speaks to her about following proper pharmacy procedures and keeping patient information private.

Today I stopped in to Giant Pharmacy for a flu shot. I was informed that because it was close to…read morefive o'clock and they were busy and there were only two of them and I would be added into the waiting prescriptions that the wait time could be close to an hour. They were not at all nice about it, and that surprised me, because I've gotten prescriptions filled there in the past and they are usually competent and courteous. I ended up waiting about 40 minutes for the shot and I felt that it was very much a problem for them. So, if you want to get your flu shot at Giant, be sure to go early in the day and hope for the best. They obviously do not have the staff to provide this service, even though they advertise it aggressively. Next year I will get my shot elsewhere or not at all.

I just moved into the neighborhood from out of state and went to the address on 17th St. NW. I called main number to inquire and was asked if I was interested in leasing the property! This didn't sound like the pharmacy would be opening. When I told them that I needed to transfer my Rx's to them ASAP I was told it would indeed open "soon". This is not good enough. Ithen went to another pharmacy and got what I needed.
