This is about their pharmacy medicine refill phone automated system. I called them a week ago to refill a prescription, I put in the info and was told that they would reach out to the medical provider. Now, a week later, I have heard nothing and when I called the medical provider to check on the status they said that the Gaint Pharmacy never called them to renew the prescription order. This has not been the first time that this system has screwed me over. The medicine is for seizers and can cause more harm if the meds are not or can't be taken. Please, can someone look into a better system or be more proactive in filling the prescriptions and reaching out to both the medical provider and the patient? This can lead to some really dangerous medical outcomes. read more

SOMETHINGS NEW!!! I have recently purchased this cheesy artichoke dip. It's delicious it's creamy not salty with big chunks of artichokes. The parmesan cheese and the garlic taste hits with a big bang of course. I wonder if I could've heated the dip up a little. I'll do that some other time I usually don't purchase artichoke dip in the grocery stores but I do purchase it when I go out to restaurants but I wasn't disappointed at all. I would purchased the dip again i think it would be great for the holidays small get together or just like what I doing now a movie night for myself. I'm pairing the artichoke dip with some tortilla chips but it's great with pita chips, carrots, celery sticks or with a roasted baguette bread with a white or a Moscato wine. We were curious to see the Giant now that it has moved to its new location. It's a large store, clean and nicely organized with a wide variety of items. One of the first things we saw when we entered was their $10 meal selection. You have a choice of protein, fried chicken or rotisserie chicken, and two side dishes. Among the standard sides, mac and cheese, etc. there was creamed spinach and cheesy broccoli, two choices I haven't seen at all the Giant stores. We also found some items that I haven't noticed at other stores like Old Bay Bloody Mary mix. Married to a man who would put Old Bay on his cereal, how could I resist. They also had the Nature's Promise Caesar Salad Dressing, which is often sold out at other stores. The staff was pleasant. I got a cheery "hello, how are you today" from one of the employees putting away stock. One downside to this store, and it's not their fault, is that shopping center's parking lot is a little chaotic. read more

This Giant Food store has recently moved to a new location: 18140 Village Center Dr Olney, MD 20832 United States I visited today, May 18, 2019, and the new location is everything we needed and more! This location has a fresh self-serve food and salad bar. The deli included fresh deli meat and cheese, salads, and seafood. There's robust options for vegans, gluten free, healthy food choices, and the produce section is well stocked and fresh. There's a Starbucks located at this location and a PNC Bank inside. There's plentiful self-serve check out registers as well as regular cashiers. The staff is very helpful. This location is one of the best Giant Food Stores I've visited. This will be my new favorite grocery store in the area. Go visit and check out the new location! read more

I have used the pharmacy for 35 years. But in the past two years the service and reliability has been horrendous. Today they got my prescription electronically at 10:45. Called at 12:30 and spoke to pharmacist who said it would be ready at 2. Got there 2:20. Not only not ready but they now said not in stock. So been in pain and waiting- but now no medicine! I'm not a fan of Giant Food stores and this location is exactly why. The selection is limited, the fresh fruits and vegetables are not exactly fresh and the store is just dismal. Had a very disturbing experience at this Giant when a woman started staring at me as soon as I walked in. She was standing just inside the front, waiting for her friend, I guess, because I have no idea why she was just standing there. I could feel her staring but didn't look in her direction until her body physically shifted to keep staring at me as I tried to go about doing my shopping. The items I wanted to look and perhaps buy were towards the front where she still was and she was still staring me down so I confronted her and asked "is there a reason you're staring at me?" She responds by saying "I can look where I want" thus admitting she was staring at me. Then the friend I assume she was waiting for appears, so she precedes to tell her whatever nonsense because I didn't catch everything they said since I really didn't want to engage but I'm not going to just ignore the fact they are clearly trying to start something from their behavior. So i went to get the manager because I think there were trying to start trouble in general, and not just with me. I guess this is how they get their kicks on a Friday night. There have been blatant thefts at pretty much every Giant in Montgomery County, or maybe other grocery stores, but I've mostly heard of it being at Giant and actually witnessed one. People fill up their carts with laundry detergent mostly and just walk out of the store. This woman's behavior exhibited signs of casing me to try to steal something from me or at the least just harass me. 70% of communication is nonverbal so staring someone down is threatening and not just innocent curiosity. A person is clearly trying to make someone uncomfortable when they follow you with their eyes as though you're a target at the end of a rifle scope so I'm not going to just pretend I'm not aware. I got the manager to at least shut it down because I knew she and her friend would deny it and act like I did something wrong and the woman or teenager, I don't know which, called me a Karen. She's the one trying to provoke something and she's calling me this. Giant needs to start hiring security guards or step up their security somehow because it's becoming a free for all for this type of behavior at there stores versus other grocery stores. read more

Today I had a horrible experience with the cashier. She did not bag any groceries. When I asked her to turn on the conveyor belt, so that I could bag them, she did, however she did not turn it off and the groceries pilled up. She sarcastically asked if we would like her to turn it off, as if it wasn't obvious that the groceries were getting smashed. Also, when I called to speak with the manager I was put on hold for an inappropriate amount of time. I usually have a great customer experience at the pharmacy, produce, bakery and meat department, so I would like to give them a higher rating. read more

Today October 30, 2019 at around 5:23 pm. I saw two (2) round cake in the bakery section and found the price is $4.99 and the Expiration is 11/06/2019. I got one and was thinking the price is on sale because the due date is so so close. I do the self service payment and ring it but the price goes to $14.99. The Self Service Assistant got notice and bring my complain to the Customer Service Manager. The Manager asked the Sales Associate ( MARIA) to investigate. She went to the bakery section and talk to the another associates. I asked and told me the price is $14.99 so I declined to purchase it. I asked Maria that you should honor the customer because its not my fault and there are still stock on display with same prices. THE WORST THING: the associates in the bakery section got her ticket gun and put the price $14.99 and change the due date of the cake to extended time ( Nov 29, 2019. Hey, Giant this is what you are doing to sell your food if close to the due date/ expiration, you just have to put the ticket for extended period time again.... I am now assume that all the food, sandwiches, ready to eat, salad might be already expired but Giant just have to change the due date TO SELL IT. I don't know why I keep going to this Giant, in Olney MD. I used to absolutly love it. I knew where everything was and their prices are way cheaper than harris teeter or safeway. But recently they have been failing in multiple areas. In an attempt to remain competitive with the other grocery stores popping up in Olney they have made quite a few changes. Change is good, but the changes they have made don't seem to function well. For example, the self scan option where you can go around and scan your items, put them in your bag and then just pay at the check out counter, it NEVER works properly! Everytime I go to checkout and scan the checkout barcode to pull up my order to pay, it NEVER scans. I always have to get an employee but I can't leave my cart because I have a little one with me. I tend to go when the store isn't busy, so good luck finding someone to help. The employees never seem to be around if the store isn't busy. When there is a problem with self checkout, which is pretty much everytime I use it, there isn't someone around to keep an eye on things, I usually have to flag someone down to get some help. Their customer service is slipping. I used to get such great customer service. It seems like everywhere customer service is lacking! On some occasions when they pack my groceries, the meat is put on the side so the package rips open, vegetables are put with the leaking meat, bread is on the bottom etc... While they are way cheaper than harris teeter and safeway, i'm thinking i might take my business to shoppers. It's a pain to learn a new grocery store but at this point i'm willing to make the effort. read more

This is probably the best supermarket in Olney. Advertised products are always in stock, the produce is fresh, most of the customer service desk people are helpful, and the manager is especially helpful. The prices are in line with other supermarkets, and often a little lower than some stores. It's not the largest supermarket but they are moving to a larger location in Olney next year (the former Shopper's Food Warehouse), so the selection should get even larger and the aisles will hopefully be wider. read more

The new Giant is quite a bit larger than prior location and so they have more of a variety of items. The parking lot is a headache compared to their prior location or even Safeway or Harris Teeters. I tried to special order an item they carried at new location and then they stopped carrying it. I wasted time with never a followup being received after 3 attempts on my part to find out if they could order the item. Most importantly we just noticed many major price hikes in October so now we have started shopping the other local stores like Harris Teeters as they have good sales and we love their Asian hot bar. Giant has proven bigger stores are not necessarily better. We used to shop exclusively at Giant but no more. Between price hikes recently and the parking which we were willing to put up with prior to the price hikes, we now only shop there occasionally. read more

Literally everytime (5-6 tim I've been there my wait time exceeds the expected wait time by over 30 minutes. I understand things come up, but when I say I am going to wait and then I am waiting a half hour after when I am supposed to it gets very frustrating. Please have respect for people's time and schedules. I recently went to pick up a prescription that I had previously filled multiple times at Harris Teeter but asked my doc to switch over to giant because it's closer to my house. At Harris teeter the script was like $12 so I expected my script to be in the same ball park. Oh no. I get to giant and the lady says $99. I have been a customer of this store for 15 years. In the entire 15 years i have watched this place degrade to a point where shopping at the 7-11 nearby is a better experience. In fairness however,maybe it's in relation to the competition. The Safeway next door tore down their entire structure and rebuilt from the ground up...and it's fabulous. They did the same thing to the Kensington store. And the Harris Teeter across the street is simply one of the nicest stores i've ever been in. The last being Shoppers. Its just, well, Shoppers. So part of the problem is that there are FOUR major chain grocery stores within walking distance in Olney. Kind of silly really.But this Giant doesn't even come close to the others. Except, again, poor Shoppers. Recently, I had to get a birthday cake, It was specified to be a white cake with vanilla butter cream frosting. I asked the lady in the Giant bakery if they had that and she pointed me to a yellow cake and told me "It's the same as white". Uh, no, it's not. I went over to Safeway....white cake with vanilla butter cream and they decorated it while i waited. Today i went into Giant...was next in line at the deli behind a customer who was ordering enough meat and cheese for the 5th battalion. She had one deli counter person occupied obviously. The other? Finished with his customer...KNEW i was standing there next in line...and he just walked away. I went to the prepackaged deli meat area to do my 'deli shopping'. It's story after story like this - never enough check out people so there are always lines...terrible selection of a lot of products other stores have plenty of....missing or incorrectly placed sale cards on the shelves...it's a horribly run place. And i have heard this about other Giant stores as well so it's a systemic problem with this entire chain. So why do i keep going there? A good question. They are a habit i need to break. read more

This new location is amazing. It's has a much larger selection than my local Giant, with a warm food section, deli, pizza, and cheese, and bakery section. It kind of reminds me of a Wegmans. The staff are friendly. There is a Starbucks inside this location which is always nice. There is ample self checkout stations as well as regular lines. read more

We placed a large catering order at the Deli and they did an amazing job! The sandwiches were loaded with meat. Everyone was quite impressed. The chicken salad was also delicious. I typically only write reviews about restaurants; however, Giant is near and dear to me. There was a time when Giant was the best game on town. The value w as great, the staffing was good and everyone was happy. At some point, the company changed the way it viewed its employees and customers which are typically the same people. I noticed that the employees weren't as friendly or as happy to be at work. I also noticed that while mega stores like Teeter were lowering their prices to capture a greater market share, Giant's prices increased. Most importantly, I noticed that Giant's groceries were becoming suspect. The produce was no longer appealing and the meats were border line rancid. Dumped this Giant years ago when they built Teeter. Great store. Friendly and well stocked. We do our major shops there. Pharmacy is great and friendly. We got tired of rain checks because all the sale items were out of stock. Poorly managed and not too friendly cashiers. I remember the days when "That's MY Giant" meant something. Now just a slogan. Ahold just kill Giant and make it a Stop N Shop already. That's how you're running it any way. The old Giant is dead and gone anyway. Bakery sucks and we get cakes at Shoppers. Good service that is always quick to help and very friendly. Also this place is cheep and has great sales on munchy foods. Also, when you have a membership here, which is free, you get money off of gasoline at Shell. And the more money you spend at Giant the more you get off per gallon of gas. This store is awful. I've complained many times to the various managers about the merchandise that blocks the aisles. They simply give me lip service and really don't care. This is THE MOST POORLY MANAGED grocery store i have ever shopped in. I am a long time Giant Foods shopper which they rely on because it becomes a habit. However, i am determined to shop elsewhere since there are so many other options in Olney. I feel sorry for the cashiers and baggers--they have very hard jobs for poor pay and they have to bear the brunt of the frustration with how badly the store is managed. IT IS THE MANAGERS who do an absolutely horrible job. it is impossible to get anything from their deli in less than 15 minutes, and god help you if there is a line. Just forget it. Even when you are the only person there it still takes forever! And ordering from the kiosk doesn't help--they mess up the order every time. Seafood--forget it--they are not interested in helping and if they do care at all, then they don't know the answer to any questions and the easiest thing is to just say no we don't have it. Checkout--don't get me started!! They NEVER EVER have enough checkout lines open no matter what time of day or day of the week. I routinely have to stand in line for at least 15 minutes. Today there were two lines open and one had a huge spill so we were basically down to one line. I am only half joking when i say they should supply sofas and TVs in the deli and checkout areas since you are going to be spending a long time in each of those areas waiting! As i said the cashiers cannot be blamed for this. Giant always underdoes the number of checkout lines that are open. Their selection is much worse than other stores in the area and their prices really aren't any better. The quality of the produce is mediocre at best, and i just spent $30 on a fruit assortment that was rotten by the time i opened it up when i got home. What a waste. I don't know why i continue to torture myself by going there. it is a nightmare every single time. The one time i tried to register a complaint someone too my name and number and email and said that someone would get back to me--no one ever did. I've had it with this sorry excuse for a business! Other Giants (River Hill) are marginally better but i really don't want Giant to get another penny of my money ever! read more
