Dr. Wong and his staff always seem to tailor to your needs. The community itself is pretty strong and should you wish to be a part of the journey with them, the transition should be seamless for you or your child. Felt a bit misguided because of course signup process was as easy as 123, but in order to cancel my membership (which I had to do for personal reasons) I had to write a letter, get it NOTARIZED (yes seriously) , and drop off in person, AND $100 cancellation fee lol. Guess there's a catch to finding the most affordable muy Thai in the Bay Area. In all honesty it did feel like communication was solid up until I started inquiring about cancelling. As soon as I started inquiring bout cancelling it felt like I could not receive a response. Had to message repeatedly, and felt like my calls were being dodged intentionally. I would call from my phone and calls went to voicemail repeatedly. Tried using my friends phone to call and they answered on first call lol. Just didn't feel very professional or helpful. Finally got my membership cancelled though after much effort and communication. All in all, this is a great place for muy Thai, and the coaches have extensive knowledge of what they're doing and create a welcome environment for new students. Like my review states, My critiques lie solely with the dated, frustrating, tedious cancellation policy. Before finding Element, we explored another gym, but I was discouraged by their enrollment options. They required either a $500 initiation fee, which included a gi, or an annual membership of over $1,000 without the opportunity to take a single class first. Needless to say, I was not impressed. I was thrilled when I came across Element's advertisement on Instagram and submitted an inquiry. To my surprise, Mark called me back the very next day, even though it was Memorial Day weekend. He took the time to explain how the gym operates, answered all of my questions, and offered my son a three-day trial. I thought this was a much more practical approach because it allowed my son to experience the classes and determine whether it was something he truly wanted to pursue. As expected, my son was a bit nervous on his first day since he had no prior martial arts experience. However, he was eager to learn. He ended up taking all three classes that day: one hour of boxing, one hour of Muay Thai, and one hour of BJJ. The coaches, Mark, Sean, Ethan and Spencer, are incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and supportive. Although he was exhausted afterward, he had an amazing experience. Since then, my son has been attending classes three to four times a week, often spending about three hours a day at the gym during the summer. Despite leaving each session tired and drenched in sweat, he genuinely enjoys every minute of it. He looks forward to class, and each time he comes home having learned something new. The positive impact Element has had on my son has been remarkable. I have seen tremendous growth in him, both physically and mentally. He has become more confident, disciplined, and motivated. The atmosphere at the gym is equally impressive. The coaches and students create a welcoming, family-oriented environment where everyone supports one another. If you're living in the East Bay (or the Bay at large) and want to train BJJ (as hobby, self defense, or to compete) in a top notch academy, with a high level of instruction, and a REALLY great culture ... this school is a no-brainer, just take a trial class and I think you'll understand. I am fairly new to BJJ, and this was the first official school I had trained at. I was nervous and a bit intimidated at first. But after my first class, I left feeling really grateful for the experience. There's a mix of levels. The higher belt students are really skilled, and the best part is .. they are super friendly, patient, and willing to help you get better. Everyone is respectful of each other and you definitely feel safe rolling. I think that's a testament to Denny (head coach) and the rest of the instructors. As a teacher myself, I'm really aware of people's teaching styles and philosophies. I am really inspired by Denny's approach, and it suited me. He's definitely the person to see if you want to become better with your technique in all the different moves in Muay Thai. He's also very good at communicating and patient. The advantages of getting private Muay Thai instruction as opposed to just taking a class at a gym is the hands on, one on one instruction you are getting. Especially from someone like Lawrence, who is constantly looking over you making sure you are doing things the correct way. You can tell he wants you to get the technique down the right way. He also works at a pace that you're comfortable with. Other things I'd like to add are that Lawrence does not have an ounce of arrogance in his body and is very down to earth.
